Positively Emerald

"Can you read that part to me again, please?"
Hermione asked as she sat across from Emerald at dinner. Emerald lifted her copy of "The life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" and read aloud once more:
"I used my power to pull a broom from a munchkin woman and with the spell book, the Grimmerie, I enchanted it and gave it the power of flight. It turned jet black, a reflection of my own rebellion against the wizard. I left the Wizard that day and left the spellbook with my sister for safekeeping"
Hermione hummed with a hint of sorrow and rested her fork next to her now empty plate.
"That must be the wicked witch of the east." "There were two of them?" Ron asked, his new girlfriend Lavender Brown clung to his side.
"Yes, Ronald, Oz had four major witches, two good ones and two wicked ones. The ones of the east and west were wicked." Hermione explained, frustration was plane on her face.
"You would know that if you did the reading I gave you."
Ron resorted to sucking face with Lavender and Hermione gagged before getting up and running off.
"Don't understand why she's so upset." Ron said as he came up for air. "Assigning me reading... like who does she think she is? My professor?"
"She's just trying to help." Emerald said as she closed her book. "Pft whatever." Ron rolled his eyes.
"Honestly why does she think you're so special? You're just a witch like the rest of us." Lavender said over Ron's shoulder and Emerald's ears turned green as furry rose in her. But why was she mad? She kept claiming she was just another witch after all.
Hadn't she?
Hadn't she tried to brush aside her heritage? But after reading this diary left behind to her by the wicked witch... she was starting to come to terms with who she was.
"You obviously weren't in charms class this week." Harry muttered. "What's that supposed to mean?" Ron narrowed his eyes at Harry.
"Emerald showed the entire class that day just how special she is, whether she liked it or not." "And why are you defending her?" Ron countered. "Is she your girlfriend now?"
"No, Ron." Harry snapped. "There's an understanding, from one legendary wizard to another legendary witch." The boy who lived said and Emerald turned to look at him.
"Legendary?" She asked.
"Please, Harry, no one cares to listen to you boast." Harry stood, clearly over Ron's sudden attitude, He turned to Emerald.
"I'll tell you all about it. Just not here." He explained and offered her his arm. She accepted.

"So you see,"
Harry said as he walked with Emerald down the corridors of Hogwarts as he walked arm in arm with the witch.
"You aren't the only legendary student here." He told her, finishing off his story of how he escaped the clutches of Voldemort as a mere child.
"So you understand?" Emerald asked. "Understand?" "You understand people expecting to know you, know everything about you, just because of the legacy that was left for you. People who claim 'oh I knew your mother she was such a dear friend of mine' even though your mother never mentioned them. Like ever."
Harry chuckled at her mimicking of Dumbledore.
"Yeah." He said sweetly. "I guess I do understand." "Oh thank Oz." Emerald cried happily.
"I am so sick and tired of people claiming they know me when they dont! They know the version of me that Dorothy and- and- Elphaba have made for them, but they don't know me, you know?"
"You're practically describing my first year at Hogwarts." Harry said with a grin.
"Did your parents leave anything behind for you, Harry?" Emerald asked, her demeanor softening as she looked up at him.
"Sorry?" "Anything to like remember them by?" her eyes fell on the lightning bolt scar on his head. "My father left me an invisibility cloak." He said. "My mother... my mother left me with her eyes."
She looked up at his eyes. Those green irises that looked down at her in the dim lighting of the corridor. "I like your eyes." She said softly. They had stopped walking and Harry stepped closer to her.
"You do?" He asked, his voice hushed. Emerald nodded.
"They're positively emerald."

"And just what do you think you're doing?"
The pair looked up as Draco stalked towards them. Harry paled.
"Emerald you should be heading to your dorm, not loitering with this scum." He said as he snatched her by the hand and pulled her away from Harry.
"Let go of me!" She shrieked and instantly slapped him. The sound was sharp and echoed down the corridor. Draco's jaw clenched.
"Get to your dorm." He said through gritted teeth, obviously he was furious. "You don't own me." Emerald sneered.
"I don't but I am still the Slytherin Prefect." "the what?" "It means he has power that he can abuse." Harry chimed in. "Shut it, Potter." Draco snapped.
"He can tell you what to do." Harry added, not listening to Draco. Draco pulled out his wand and aimed it at Harry. "You just don't know when to quit do you, Potter?" He hissed.
"Stop it!" Emerald shouted. Draco didn't moved. "Leave him alone!" "I'll do what I like." Draco replied, unwavering. "I said leave him alone!"
Power filled the air. A burst of green light shot from Emerald's hands and knocked Draco off his feet.
The lightst flickered and a burst of wind ruffled Emerald's hair and robes. The familiar green burned over her hands. Like paint, green streaked up her arms, staining her with the wicked witch's power.
She rushed to Draco who groaned as he tried to sit up.
"Draco I-" She began. She looked to Harry, eyes pleading for help. But he stepped backwards, eyes wide in shock. "I better go." Was all he said before dashing off.
