Chapter 14- The lies we tell

Glad to see you continued!!!

"So tell me a little bit about your family," Danny says as she readjusts her sitting position in the cab.
There had been a long awkward silence between the both of them that lasted for like an hour since the beginning of the drive. None of them seemed to have known the best way to start, not until now.

"My family? Oh no, it's just my mom and I...there is no family," Willis replies with a smile on his face.

Before she knew it, her feelings slowly start to change into guilt at the sight of him smiling at what he had just said, "I'm sorry...I shouldn't have asked."

He turns to her, realizing how he had made her feel with his statement, "No, it's fine...it really is, don't worry about it."

She quietly nods her head in a slow-motion and turns back to the window beside her, so he could tell that wasn't enough. He had made her feel bad for asking.
He slowly shifts closer to her and places a hand on top of hers that rested on her right thigh. The sudden warmth she feels on her hand takes her by surprise. It felt like she had put her hand into a fire that didn't burn her, but just sent shivers down her whole body from the place their hands had connected.

She closes her eyes and sucks in a sharp breath, taking in every bit of the goodness she felt. Before reopening her eyes and slowly turning to face him.

"Don't feel bad Danny," he murmurs while slowly caressing her hand without even noticing, cause his eyes were only fixed on hers. Starting in them always seemed to make his day.

She drops her gaze at their connected hands, the way he touched hers, slowly stroking it in an intimate way was enough to put a smile on her face, "How could I?" She replies in a whisper with her eyes still down making him drop his gaze too.

He notices their connection being the cause of how she had suddenly gotten lost.

Then slowly, he tightens his hold on her hand by giving it a gentle squeeze, which as expected, she returns back.

Was this really it? He thought. Was this really a sign that she wanted me as much as I wanted her?...maybe it was...no, this is no time for assumptions Willis, you need to do this, don't back down on this.

"Are you ok?" Her voice interiors his thoughts, pushing him back to reality, "You seem lost...are you sure you're fine?"

He doesn't answer, his eyes seemed to have been doing all the talking for him, judging by the way he just stared into hers.

Without wasting further time, he slowly slides his hand away from hers, leaving her in confusion. She didn't understand where he was going with this, and neither did he, but something inside of him just kept him to go with the flow, not to overthink it, so he had to do just that.

Slowly, he takes up his hand and softly places it on her face, putting aside the strands of hair that were in the way of his target, her lips.

His thumb gets in contact with them, stroking them lightly. Gently. Intimately.

She closes her eyes once again, loving what she felt, the tingling sensation on her lips due to the melodious way he ran his fingers on them was the best thing that had happened to her since the beginning of the ride.

She was just at the verge of giving in. Right then he made her feel capable of anything, including having enough courage to give in to his temptation.

He puts a stop to the caressing of her lips with his fingers.

Her eyes go open again, but this time full of want, he was giving her emotions and all of a sudden stopped. Was he really planning on leaving her in suspense of what he was going to do next?
No, not for long.

He slowly positions his hands on her face, and with closed eyes, he begins to pull her closer also coming close enough to cover up the little space in between them.

She could already feel his harsh breaths all over her face as he pulled her closer, and closer, and stops midway.

The sudden interruption of her ringing phone brings them both to an abrupt pause.

With his eyes still closed, Willis slowly takes his hand off her face, biting his lower lip in frustration.

Her impatience was crystal clear in her opened eyes, "This won't take long...I promise," She assures him as she recreates the large space in the middle of them by shifting back to her rightful position, keeping them apart once more.

"No, it's fine...take your time," he replies, pinching the tip of his nose clearly out of annoyance.

She quickly opens up her purse, brings out her phone, and upon seeing who it was she stops.

"Is everything ok? Who is that?" He asks with clear concern.

"It's no one...important. No one important," she replies with a fake smile while using her thumb to cover Scott's name from Willis's view, "Just do me a favour and don't say a word...so I can be able to hear the unknown caller's voice clearly."

"Oh, an unknown caller? Ok, sure thing."

With her smile still being as fake as ever, she accepts the call and slowly places the phone on her ear.

"Danny, where are you?" A rough voice shoots from the other end of the line.

"Calm down, please let me just..."

"Don't tell me to calm down!" He shouts, cutting her short of words. She sensed raging anger in his voice, but who was she to blame him? "Danny, you promised!"

She bites her fingernail, full of guilt. Nothing about the truth was going to set her free from this, "I know I did..."

"...So where are you then?! I've been waiting here for like an hour now! But you're not showing up!"

Yeah, she had to lie. It had come to that. It had seriously come to that.

"Something came up."

"What did?!" He still sounded unsatisfied with her answer.

"Umm...my roommate...her mum is very sick, and I had to be there for her," she closes her eyes with the hope that the lie sunk in. And surprisingly, it did.
She hears him let out a deep sigh before he continues.

"Babe, why do you always have to be so good all the time?"

She lets out a breath of relief. She hadn't even noticed that had been holding her breath as she told her lies, "Well, you know me...always caring for the one's I love."

She hears him chuckle from his own end of the line.

"Ok, don't worry about it. Go be with your roommate and her mom, they need you right now."

"Thank you so much."

"Don't mention it, I'll call you later...ok?"

The smile on her face wasn't so fake anymore, "Sure, Sorry once again though."

"No, it's ok. See you later."

"Yeah, later."

He cuts the call. Wow! That's one fantastic thing he's done all day. Her thoughts exactly.

"Who was that?"

She sharply turns back to Willis at his question.

"Oh, umm...it was just my roommate. She asked if I could escort her to see her sick mum at home, but I told her I couldn't make it."

"Oh, your roommate's number is unknown to your phone?"

"Umm...it's her second number, I didn't save that one," she lies.

"Ok. But we're here though."
Her eyes follow the direction of his pointed finger, through the open taxi window. He was right, she hadn't even noticed they had come to a stop. It must have been because of all the trying to know what lies to tell and when to tell them.

He leans in closer to her and whispers, "Danny."

She smiles before answering, "Yeah."

"Ready when you are."
