Chapter 10
Alec POV
I heard noises. I couldn't really distinguish them, but they were really annoying me. What is Magnus doing, it's too early. I tried to speak to tell him to stop but I couldn't. I tried again and again, but still there was no sound coming out of my mouth. At least none that I could hear. Just when I was about to try and speak again everything that's been happening for the past couple weeks came crashing down on me.
My father, me going out on the secret hunt, me dying. Wait, me dying? I'm dead! I tried to open my eyes, and luckily, they obeyed. I saw a blinding white light. Oh my god, I'm dead. In all of those mundane books that Clary talks about there is always a white light that leads the main character, or any character, to their death.
I'll never get to marry Magnus or adopt a child with him. I continued to ramble in my head until I saw dull, but spiked, hair. I only knew one person who spiked their hair. Magnus! I blinked several times to make sure that I wasn't hallucinating.
That's when I realized that the sheet on my left side was wet. I looked down and what I saw almost made me laugh. Magnus was drooling. I then decided to really look at him, or at least what I could see from this angle. His clothes were super wrinkly, like he hasn't changed them in days. There was old food, or at least what I assumed was food, stains on them.
His head lay on the thin sheet and somehow I could tell that he had been crying. He hadn't noticed that I was awake yet. I looked around the room and quickly realized I was in the hospital wing at the institute. I looked over to my left upon hearing that dreadful noise again. It was Jace. He was lying down on the bed next to me, snoring.
So by now I have figured out that I am not dead and that I must have passed out. If I'm in the Institute's infirmary then I must have been injured really bad. Therefore, why is Jace in here, snoring! I mean, I could have serious inner bleeding or something and need to rest, but couldn't because of his snoring.
He knows how much I hate his snoring. That was probably one of the only turn offs that the great Jace Herondale had. At least that's what I thought when I was 'in love' with him. Now, I could count out several things that were wrong with him. The biggest one would be, he isn't Magnus Bane.
That thought brought my eyes back to my amazing boyfriend who was currently drooling all over my hospital sheets. The sight brought a smile to my face. He looked so adorable. I'll never tell him that though. In fact, I'll never tell anyone that. If Jace found out I would never hear the end of it. A shadowhunter doesn't find anything adorable.
I mean, we kill demons for a living. The black liquid that spews out of them as they are stabbed and die definitely isn't cute. I am brought out of my thoughts by the sound of Jace's disgusting snores. Deciding I can't take it anymore I shift my body so I can grab one of the pillows from behind my head.
When I finally have a hold of it I pull it from behind my head, wincing as my body protests to all of the sudden movement. I throw the pillow at Jace as best as I can in my position. Apparently his snoring was annoying Raziel too because the pillow hit him dead in the face and he sat up abruptly.
He looked around confused until his eyes landed on me. His eyes bulged out of their sockets at the sight of me. "What did I tell you about your snoring?" I asked, my voice was barely audible and my throats was dry. His mouth opened and closed repeatedly for several moments.
The sight made me chuckle, "The great Jace Herondale is speechless? That is a sight that I never thought I'd, or anyone quite frankly, would live to see." My voice was getting better, but my throats was still dry. Realizing he looked like a fish he fixed his face. He got up and came towards me, clapping me, hard, on the shoulder, "That wasn't funny. You aren't a funny person. I on the other hand, I am hilarious. I should actually have one of my own comedy shows. The mundanes would love me. I can see it now." he said, staring up into the sky as if he was actually looking at something.
All of the talking apparently woke Magnus because he lifted his head, and upon seeing me, shot out of his seat and attacked my face. I didn't hesitate before I reciprocated. It wasn't long before our tongues were exploring each others mouths.
"Hello! I am standing right here you know!" Jace said. Remembering that he was here I pulled away. I was sure that my face was as red as a tomato. "Alec, darling, I love you more than life itself, but if you ever do that again I will kill you. Wait no, I'll do worse than kill you. I'll buy you a whole new wardrobe. Nothing but tight clothes, no sweaters, and I will then cover it all in rainbow glitter. A fate worse than death for you, but a blessing for me. So its a win-win." During his rant he passed me a small cup of water. I drank all of it quickly.
"I'm sorry Mags. I didn't expect to get ambushed. But tell me how that I plan of yours is a win-win?" I asked. He nudged my side, telling me silently to scoot over, which I immediately did. After the water moving around was a lot easier, there must have been something in it. I lifted up the thin blanket and he got underneath it, snuggling himself into my side. Once he got comfortable he let out a long, loud, over exaggerated, sigh. I smiled down at him, "Better?"
He nodded, inhaling my scent, "Better. Now it wouldn't be a win-win, for you because you would lose but I would get two things, one, I would have gotten rid of your clothes and two I would have gotten you to wear more tight and colorful clothing. So if you think about it, its a win-win."
I laughed at his logic. The doors burst open and in came Isabelle, with Simon and Clary trailing behind her. I didn't expect to see my mom come in after them because I knew she was in Idris, trying to find my father and the other missing shadowhunters. "Alec! How could you go hunting without me!" Izzy screamed.
Simon laughed and put his arm around her shoulders. Clary came up to me, "I'm glad you're better." she said. We all sat there in a comfortable silence. It didn't last long though, with Jace being Jace. "So I'm just going to ask the question that everyone here is thinking, what happened out there? You were in pretty bad shape and when you stumbled into your apartment it took all Magnus had, and Catrina, to get you back. And this all happened five days ago. " I knew this question was going to come eventually, I was waiting for it actually.
Eight Days Ago
I have been searching non stop for my father, and I actually have a lead now. Last night while Magnus was asleep I went to a vampire bar. I have been doing this for several nights now, while Magnus is asleep. I go to a different bar every night, questioning each and every thing that breathes. After days of bar crawling I finally got a lead last night. Someone approached me while I was exiting the vampire bar.
"You Alec Lightwood, the shadowhunter asking all the questions?" he asked. I turned towards him, he was half hidden in an ally.
"Who's asking?" He stepped out of the ally. The man had a cigarette in his hand and he chuckled, taking a long smoke. Then he tossed it to the ground, crushing it under his foot.
"The names Justin, but that doesn't matter right now. What matters is that I know how you can find your father, but you have to promise me something for this information." Justin said. I looked him up and down. He was at least six feet, covered in a black trench coat. The sleeves of the trench coat were ripped off.
His muscles bulged with every move he made. His hair was blonde and he had on a wife beater, with black jeans. He looked to be about 25.
"Why would I promise you anything? What do you know about my father?" I said.
"I have information you want, you have something I need. Therefore this would be a fair trade, would it not?" I started to slowly reach for the seraph blade under my jacket. I took it slow, so he wouldn't notice.
"Don't even think about it. I'm a lot older than I look, and stronger." he said. Then he disappeared.
"Hey!" I screamed out. There was no answer. Suddenly I was gasping for air. I clawed at my throat, desperately trying to find what was restricting my breathing. I feel to my knees.
"Are you done fooling around boy." It wasn't a question, but a statement. The struggling stopped, and I looked up to see Justin.
"What are you?" I asked, after catching my breath. I've never seen a warlock move like that.
"That doesn't matter! You're wasting time!" he bellowed. This warlock knows where my father is. I have to play along, at least until I get the information I need.
"Okay. I'll do whatever you want me to. Just tell me where my father is." I pleaded.
"I don't know his exact location. But I do know what they plan to do with him. I will tell you where to find the person that knows where he is, but when you go after him you must bring back anything you find with you. Do you understand?" he stated.
"What are they going to do with him? Who has him? What am I supposed to find?" I asked, all the questions flowing out of my mouth one after another.
"Find Aldric Kane. He knows where your father is being kept." he said, and started walking down the street.
I shot up to my feet, "Wait! You didn't answer my questions! How will I give you what you want?"
He stopped walking and looked over his shoulder, "I'll find you. Remember Alexander, whatever you find you bring back with you." he said, disappearing into thin air.
Present
"After that I searched for a total of three days before I found Aldric. That's when I was attacked. He had guards everywhere. I eventually got to him, but I wasn't in the best shape. I had applied a few runes so I was better than I would have been without them. He tried to put up a fight, but I eventually got it out of him. I also found out what they were doing with Robert."
I gave them a minute to process everything. "What are they doing with him?" Simon asked.
"They're using him to make something new. Faerie, werewolf, vampire, warlock, and shadowhunter. They've been testing it out for a while now, but they were always missing something. The blood would never come out right. All the others they took are dead. But dad, h-he isn't. I don't know what it is but he has something that they've been looking for."
"Who is they Alec?" Isabelle asked. I looked down at my hands for a minute, then looked back up, "Its the Mortem." I said, dreading their reaction.
"Are you saying...." Jace started, before I interrupted him.
"Yes, I'm saying that our father has been taken by the most feared terrorist group known to the shadow world. They're using him to make some new species."
Magnus looked up at me and grabbed my hands, "We're going to find him baby." he said.
"Um, who are the Mortem? And what happens if we don't find them?" Simon asked.
"Everyone dies." Isabelle, Jace, Magnus, and I said in unison.
I read this book series a few years ago so if I get anything wrong, like the spelling of names, I apologize. I will also be adding my own things to this so bear with me.
