[BToD] [Spoiler-Free] Introducing... Captain G'ana (NaNo Update!! :D)

Song of the day: The Charge by Cake Bake Betty

Apologies for the dually late updates but I wanted to give time for the audience to catch up before I announced this...

I am very, very excited to announce Braver Than Our Demons, my 2018 NaNoWriMo. The story chronicles seven elite Sentients in the time of the twenty-seventh Auspicia, on a mission into a treacherous dimension to hunt down a rogue seraph. As the personal and interdimensional stakes of the mission rise, the group finds themselves terribly unprepared both to fight the war and to conquer their own pasts and come into their own, and the seraph they're up against is far, far more threatening than even their wildest estimations could have prepared them for...

This story is, off concept and characters alone, one of my favorite stories yet, and I'm really hoping that I can drag you all onto the crazy rollercoaster ride I have prepared for these kids. I will be releasing a new character from the main cast of seven every Sunday, but in the mean time, the comment section on their page will serve as a Q and A. I will post doodles with their responses in addition to the art for the day, so you'll get your regular art AND extra drawings, depending on how many people want to ask questions.

As for total newbies, I'd like to say that Braver Than our Demons is MORE beginner friendly than Roses and Friends or The Cities Have Fallen, but LESS beginner friendly than The Space Between Stars and The Gardenkeeper's Daughters. I'd place it around Dog Day Wars (which I will also be re-releasing, starting in... how does two weeks sound to you guys?) in that you can read it if you've never read one of my other Dreamland books, but you will have to pick up the worldbuilding as you go.

For a final update, I would like to announce that from now on the Dreamland world (planet) is going by the name of Omnia. This change is going to be effective in Dog Day Wars, which never mentions "Dreamland" deliberately because I was already done with it but didn't have a replacement... using Omnia instead of Opphemria (a continent) is going to be SUCH A RELIEF.

I know this seems like a really jarring change for the people who have been here for years (THANK YOU), but I have always been in the slow process of revising the story as I go, but I think I've reached a place where the world is matured enough that it needs a better name. That said, anyone who's squinting can see that I haven't thrown the old name to the wolves... (s)omnia is the plural of omnium, a Latin word meaning 'dream'.

NOW TO INTRODUCE MY NEW DAUGHTER:

G'ana, also known as Captain G'ana (despite not being the pilot) is a half-Canira, half-dragon who was taken from her family at a young age and raised by the Omnian government. The cause of this is her half-dragon heritage, as she is the result of a union between a dragon, a member of the massive conglomerate of associated species that Omnia is currently at war with, and a water-based Canira who offered shelter to a dragon who was sent on a mission from the Elysian (main dragon hubworld) Council who fell in love with Omnia (and a certain Canira!) and decided to stay in an incognito Canira form. Such a union is less unlikely than one would suspect, as the big-hearted water-based Canira are known for their unwillingness to turn away creatures in need and their insistence on seeing both sides generally makes them altruistic traitors... potentially traitors nonetheless, depending on how you see it, but with good intentions. Regardless, the law at this time is that any half-dragon offspring are to be taken until adulthood, which the Auspicia figured was "less terrible than killing them, but gets the point across", and G'ana doesn't remember a thing about her parents, though she has an inkling, by now, about where and what she comes from.

Despite her grim history, G'ana is upbeat, perhaps to an unsettling degree. Her insistence on seeing the bright side in situations so dire that they would floor anyone else caused her to eventually join the Defender ranks, and it has both won her battles and caused many Defender squads to quit on her because they simply couldn't keep up. Her abilities are influenced by her heritage, being a mixture of illusory magic and water manipulation. She also possesses incredible agility and lovely iridescent fur, which seems to make her literally sparkle. Between these and her scales, she stands out in a crowd, but the fact that most Sentients avoid her makes her more keen on doing good by anyone who will give her the time of day. She tends to fixate heavily on those she is close to, and the things she knows about her friends perhaps cross the boundary from "sweet" into "unsettling". Your best friend might know your birthday, but G'ana knows your birthday, your half birthday, your quarter birthdays, has compiled a list of potential heartlines for you, and also knows what to get you given your expressed interests and eating habits.

She means well.
