[BToD] [Spoiler-Free] Introducing... Mechanic Dusty
Song for the day: Surrounded by the Mountain Goats
So we're back? Really has been a while. Good to be back on the "official grind", as it were, and I am going to stupidly go ahead and promise a chapter daily from now until the book runs out. As I said, I easily did 70+ days worth of art chapters over October, and that was on top of college applications. I'm not kidding when I say posting consistently and maintaining an online presence is the hardest part of creating for me. Everything else is just like being told to breathe.
(Not saying I don't get art/writer's block, because I do.)
It still stands that I have a tendency to be ambitious with my artistic promises, but if you think I'm bad at keeping promises, you've gotta see this guy.
Dusty is the mechanic of the ship the Braver Than our Demons cast is working on. He is a devout scholar of the Mensa Metallica, that is, the leading metalworkers in Omnia, but a lot of their methods don't work in space! It turns out if most of your methods of construction/creation involve magic, and you place yourself in a vacuum-like space devoid of inherent magic, micromagical techniques that depend on a lot of small scale interactions don't actually function as intended. This makes Dusty's job harder than potentially any in Omnia, and he's not going to give up, nor is he going to ask for help, or really explain what's going on at all. Dusty can be seen in the corner making snide comments and trying to fix heavy machinery with tape, because there is no other option at this point. He doesn't sleep, but he does spend a lot of time talking to Alexa.
Speaking of Alexa, I'll get to her tomorrow! It's likely her picture will be my temporary Braver Than our Demons cover because she's beautiful, easily my favorite Omnian design and potentially my favorite character design ever, at least for the moment. Following that, the book should be up on the 4th, not because I'm not ready, but because it will be posting as a standard book on Sundays/Wednesdays for the foreseeable future. This gives me time to edit and means that I won't have to halt chapter flow on any of my current books. At some point, the idea is that I'll be posting a chapter every day, but I might dial back... it all depends on traffic. If you want more, I can do more, if you want catch up time, I'm happy to queue. What matters is having someone on board for the ride!
