[CTW] [Spoiler-Free] Cross The Waters Intro

Song for the day: Devil Town by Cavetown

(sorry for the late TCHF update it's the last one and i've been tryna edit it but college visits are getting in the way)

Cross The Waters is currently my third newest story, more or less. This means it'll likely spend two more years maturing, because my development process is a long, arduous thing and concepts and characters usually change across it, especially when I decide to actually write their story. The exception is CRUX which I decided to essentially wing which was... a bad idea which crippled the book? I have no idea how it survived.

That's probably irrelevant but develop your ideas, kids! Incubate them like a fierce mother hen and do not let them get up until you are sure that your chicks will not immediately die when exposed to air.

So! Books?!

Cross The Waters is one that's going to have to remain vague until I write it, but the basic concept is that three teenagers wake up in a gray, dismal landscape with practically no memory, save for what they are told by small beasts who claim to be their shadows. The land is inhabited by half-human monsters, perhaps easily defeated, but equally unsettling to characters who are growing more desperate (and hungry) by the day. The only choice the protagonists have is to work with their shadows, who can harness their owner's emotions to grow more powerful, in order to survive, but as conditions worsen, there are some answers that they need...

...even if they might not be the answers they want.

Gray & Blanc. Blanc is the apex of Gray's desires, a being of pure rationality whose perspective is truly free of blemish or nuance. Her incredible coldness mirrors his own, perfected, and Blanc is unafraid of making the tough decisions that would even give him pause. Her body is a knife that he uses to cut the darkness.

Calla & Schrodinger. Calla is terrified of Schrodinger, who Tuck and Gray named for her.  Sometimes Schrodinger tells the truth and sometimes Schrodinger lies, but it's not like Calla trusts them either way, even when plugging her ears is more detrimental than not listening at all. Schrodinger is more prone to asking questions than answering them, but they should know that the others can't answer.

Tuck & Anansi. Anansi does not trust the others, and Tuck doesn't trust Anansi. She whispers. Tuck is trying to hold the group together even though she doesn't want to be around people and is half-to-totally sure that she didn't before, either. Going it alone is risky. Tuck, like Gray, is ready to act on impulse, but she makes no claims to rationality. Sometimes, even when you have nowhere else to go, you just have to move.

I guess those are my vaguest character descriptions yet, but I digress. I'm imagining this as a mid-sized novella, so I could knock it out faster. Ten chapters, maybe?
