[DV] [Spoiler-Free] Deja Vu Cast Practice (Realism...ish?)
Song for the day: Sunday Bloody Sunday by U2
This is the first time I've been worried I've repeated a song. For the record, if I ever repeat a song for the day, please personally bother me about it and I will change it.
Have some old art! As I've mentioned before, I'll be alternating new and old art, hopefully with an emphasis on newer work, but the truth is that I am not making enough art to do one of these every day. I might during the school year, since I am an incessant doodler, but I will also try to get this older art "out of the way" so it's online somewhere. Part of the process is just trying to get all my work *up*, along with any associated thoughts or worldbuilding. Sometimes I feel like I have to say something when I clearly don't, though, and I'm worried as it comes off as pretentious? Even coming up on fifty days this, I'm still "easing into it" as it were, so I appreciate your patience.
Adam and Megan. Adam's face is the hardest to translate, which is likely because he was originally not inherently cartoony but his face was so specific in my mind that I couldn't draw him right. I settled into a design I liked that resembled but was not perfectly congruent with that hyperrealistic Adam and now translating him back is hard. Also the nose and eye proportions here note that this is older art. I've changed how I do noses since. (Megan's hair was fun though. Look at it!)
Evan Drake. Not my favorite realism of him but I got some crosshatching in there I really like on his shirt. A lot of this is less about the piece and more about developing my skills, seeing what does and doesn't work with human faces (quick tip: avoid sideburns whenever possible, and notice the eyes here look dead-- make sure to light your eyes, especially if your drawing implies strong lighting (as his hair does)). I develop a lot from doing these semi-realistic pieces even when they don't turn out the way I like.
This Amanda is newer. I enjoy the action, even if it's not as detailed... I've never been as good at big gloopy-teared breakdowns, which are a thing I see often in the art of others, and I hope to some day master that fine art. Another rule I have with Amanda is to never censor her acne. Her face is beautiful with or without it and most teenagers have acne anyways. The fact that it's rarely portrayed in media, and almost never portrayed on characters who aren't supposed to be ugly, is unrealistic if not offensive.
