Song for the day: 1991 by Crystal Castles

This piece is from December but it's one of my favorite works from around that time. Specifically, this is Penny Pendragon from the (somewhat self-titled) Penstroke series. Penny is a Muse, one of the gifted few who have inherited the power to enter works of media and change them from within, using her "ink" as both a weapon and a tool to change the reality of the worlds she enters. Penny is the muse of writing, though she's only 13, and due to her father's (the previous Muse of Writing, though he, like all Muses, keep their powers until death) mysterious disappearance, her non-magical mother and Muse grandmother have kept her mainly sheltered from the world. The first book follows Penny doing Muse work for a friend, but the stakes and scope escalate from there as new Muses are introduced and the very heritage and history of the Muses-- and her family-- comes into question.
