[SAD] [Spoiler-Free] Surviving The Apocalypse For Dummies Intro

Song for the day: Negi's Theme by Foxsky & Negitoro

Remember the anime girls?

Oh yeah. It's this chapter.

At some point in the past I really wanted to make a zombie apocalypse harem story. I guarantee that this has been done before by some niche anime, but despite how out there most of my ideas are, I don't do them for originality's sake. I do whatever seems like a good time and it usually ends up original enough. Which brings us to here:

In the moderately distant future, the zombie virus has decimated the human population several times over and the survivors take refuge in the remains of cities, adjusting to a more agrarian way of life on the abandoned expanses. One specific detail of the disease has been especially devastating... the disease disproportionately effects males. In the now-female dominated world, males are a rarity, which is what leads seven girls to swarm the most boring man in the world like flies on a carcass. His cluelessness and utter inability to just pick one only further entrances them, but can he choose between one? Does he need to??? How many of the girls are into each other but are trying to manipulate the social sway of the group in their direction through aforementioned male????????????????  The answers might shock you??????????????????????

I don't have names for these characters yet (I'm split on if I want them to have American names or Japanese ones) so I'm going by their color names.

Black is the scout. She loves shiny things and dry, often cruel humor. She also loves eyeliner, which is hard to come by since zombies are as down with destroying public property as they are eating human flesh. Plus, standing around in one place is generally a bad idea, as is long range communications or electricity... let's just say that nothing has been working for a while so it's hard to make eyeliner.

I mean, unless you go all natural, which ew, no.

These so happen to be her thoughts on the rest of the group or White... but it's not like she'd even stick around if they didn't need her. It's not like she likes them or something. Baka.

Red is the sniper. She can be found yelling "High score!" or "Rad, headshot!" from the roofs of the Plains. Everyone has learned to roll with this no matter how concerning it might seem. Red really does treat most of their life like one long, bizarre game. Farming? Video game. Shooting zombies? Also a video game. Flirting? A video game that she's going to win, dangit.

Yellow has a web of strangers who owe her favors in every city. Strangers with weapons. Yellow owns a knife for every finger, a gun for every month, and a copious selection of hand grenades for every day of the week. She could probably have all the men she wanted, but for some reason she just wants this one. Perhaps she's lured by the fact that he's actually her age, unlike the older men who have asked her to rule alongside them as the queen of their cities. Yellow reminds everyone of her infinite number of better options constantly but never leaves. When confronted, she just laughs it off.

Green is the group leader. She can barely carry a gun and is so klutzy that she once tripped into a field of zombies... somehow, no matter what, she comes out all guns blazing, but let's just say you should duck when said blazing occurs. Her planning ability far surpasses that of anyone else in the group, and she knows where to find estrogen injections (a commodity, as they're thought to make the disease less likely to affect you) better than anyone. Often called 'The Bloodhound' by rivals. Often called 'The Three-Legged Bloodhound' by friends. She leans on the protagonist to vent when everything gets tough, but he never has much to say back.

Blue is the quiet group fighter who bandages everything, from limbs that should really be amputated to paper cuts. Everything heals eventually, and most of the group just stays out of her way. She tends to act without thinking... or at least telegraphing her thoughts to anyone, so she just goes on dangerous adventures and comes back with zombie heads before anyone realizes she's gone. Sometimes she softly puts her head on the protagonist's lap, or nods at him from across the room. The significance of this is totally unknown to everyone, including him.

Orange is the group negotiator. She's great at brokering peace and scaring the living shit out of everyone who might cross her. The living embodiment of this face "owo" and this face ":3c". She will smile while holding you at gunpoint, sweetie. The other girls tend to make fun of the fact that she's less than five feet fall and has no breasts to speak of, seeing her as the baby of the group even though she's just as of age as they are, but they're also terrified of her.

Purple, the final member of the group, is the bookworm. She knows maps, old stories, new stories, and she'll talk... if the protagonist asks. Otherwise she keeps to her books and shyly blushes when anyone talks to her, grabbing the books to her chest and acting confused or surprised.

The bottom is an alternate design for Green. (I'm still working on all their designs but if one of them really stands out, tell me, because workshopping is hard without feedback).

More dev sketches for Red.

I tried to simplify Orange's design but I think I like it less this way. Yellow is also coming along nicely.

They'll beat you up black and blue.

Finally, our protagonist. White is one of the surviving men of the Plains, a name that suits his personality perfectly. White has no idea what he's doing, but he does have white hair, which is unusual enough that a technicolor group of girls who claim they never dyed theirs have taken him in and made him the emotional core of the group.

He's a core with the emotional consistency and flavor of Aspic, but no one has called him out on it yet.
