Chapter 15
*Shimizu Hada's POV:
It had been about a month since we first came to the hideout, and things were turning out well. Our family members decided not to come to the underground hideout to see us, but instead call us daily on a house phone in the hideout to check up on us. They continued to live their lives as if nothing has changed, for our sake. It was hard for them considering everything that was going on around them, but they still did it.
I didn't find Mina or her dad suspicious at all like our parents did. I mean, they are our parents, so it would make sense if they would've had a hard time trusting Mina or be suspicious of her in a situation like this. But over time, they trusted her with us more and tried not to worry about things that will likely not happen.
"Shimizu, come on, get up!" Robin yelled as she vigorously shook me.
"Huh? What? What's going on?" I asked as I reached for my glasses.
"It's time for our morning exercise routine!" Robin announced as she flipped her hair then placed it in a ponytail.
"Not now Robin" I groaned as I pulled the covers over me.
Big mistake.
The covers were pulled back and next thing I knew, I was being dragged me out of bed by my shirt and placed next Gaia and Beval who were standing near the exercise equipment.
"Hey, what the-?! What's your problem?!" I angrily shouted at Robin as I got up and fixed my shirt.
"Look here Mizzo, just because we are hiding from the F.E.M.A guards in an underground shelter does not mean we're gonna mope around like couch potatoes. All of us are already in shape, and we've gotta stay that way! No excuses!" Robin shouted at me as if she was an Army guard.
I looked over at Gaia and Beval. They looked just as pissed off as I did but exhausted as well. It was about seven in the morning and we, except Robin, didn't go to sleep until about one or two in the morning. Unfortunately, we were too busy watching movies and fooling around that we totally forgot that we were going to start an early morning exercise routine for five days a week the next day.
"Gaia, I want fifty-five jumping jacks. Beval, give me thirty push-ups. Shimizu, run a lap on the treadmill!"
"Robin, can you please make the exercise routine a little less harsh? We aren't as athletic as you and-"
"No excuses! Now give me fifty-five jumping jacks!" Robin demanded to Gaia with a passive-aggressive smile.
Gaia decided to suck it up and do the fifty-five jumping jacks, while I jumped on the treadmill and started running. I just wanted to get it over with.
Beval, while mumbling and groaning did thirty pushups.
We spent about thirty minutes doing Robin's intense exercises, but to be honest with you, I felt a whole lot better afterward. I felt more awake.
"So, how do you guys feel?" Robin asked as we stretched during our cool down.
"A whole lot better, and I feel happier" I said as I was stretching my calf. Gaia and Beval nodded in agreement.
"That's the beauty of exercise" Robin winked at me.
We abruptly heard the tree trunk door open, then heard footsteps. It was Mina.
"Hey guys, good morning!" Mina smiled as she walked over to us.
Me, Robin, and Gaia waved.
"Hey Mi Mi" Beval smiled as he walked over and hugged Mina. Mina tightly hugged him back and kissed his cheek.
"Awww" me and Robin awed.
Gaia rolled her eyes at the scene for some odd reason.
"What are you guys up to?" Mina asked us after she and Beval stopped hugging.
"Nothing really, we were finishing up my awesome, morning exercise routine that we'll start doing for five days a week, every week" Robin explained proudly.
"Sounds like fun, but there is something that I will like to tell you guys" Mina said to us with a wide smile as she clasped her hands together.
We looked at each other and started preparing for the best, but also the worst.
"Yeah, what is it?" I asked, afraid of the answer.
"From now on, you guys will be eating breakfast with me and my dad up in our house. You guys really need some fresh air and sunshine."
That honestly did not make any sense, we were supposed to be in hiding 24/7 and not come out at all.
"Um, aren't we suppose to be in hiding? What if your maids or butlers saw us and call the police, or what if the neighbors see us?" I asked her, a little suspicious.
"Our neighbors most likely won't notice, but I paid the butlers and maids to keep quiet, so you don't have to worry" Mina said in a carefree manner.
"I don't know Mina, I think we should stay here" I replied as I crossed my arms.
I didn't feel comfortable coming outside, especially at a time like this.
"Awww, come on Mizu, nothing bad has happened to us, and we've been here for a month. Give her a chance, don't be so paranoid" Beval said as he placed his arm around me, trying to persuade me as we were walking away from the others to talk privately.
"I have every reason to be paranoid, you've seen what's going on up there and on the news. What's going on up there is the reason we are underground, safe and away from the public. We don't need to be out in the open where people can see us" I argued with Beval as I took his arm from around me.
"We can put on our contacts and nobody will know that we are experi-babies. Remember: the proof of our powers are our eye colors" Beval said to me as he glared into my deep, ocean blue eyes.
I stroked my chin and thought about it for a moment.
"Will this work? Will anybody recognize us? Will we be safe? Well, we are just going inside of Mina's house, nothing really major. We won't be going too far....but at the same time, it wouldn't take too much to get caught. Why not she just bring the food down here like she's been doing for a month now?" I thought.
"Hmmmm" I moaned with a cocked eyebrow, not really wanting to do it.
Beval gave me a puppy dog look.
"Oh alright" I sighed in defeat as I rolled my eyes.
We went back over to where Mina, Gaia, and Robin were.
"We'll come out, as long as we where our contacts" I said to Mina in seriousness manner as I crossed my arms.
"Oh that's no need, it's not like you will be out in public, you will just have breakfast with us and come back here" Mina said
"Are you sure?" I asked as I squinted my eyes a little.
"I am absolutely positive, you can trust me Shimizu" Mina smiled slightly as she placed her hand on my shoulder.
"Okay, fine. We'll go" I said with a sigh.
The telephone suddenly started ringing.
Since Beval was closest to the phone, he looked at it to see who was calling.
"Oh, it's my sister Isabella, I need to take this real quick" Beval said to us before he took the phone and walked away.
"Sure" Mina smiled.
Once Beval was done talking on the phone, we put our coats on and made our way out of the underground hideout and out the tree. The sun was bright for a winter day. Since it was late March it was still cold, so cold that we had to sprint across the backyard into the Mansion, desperately trying to escape it.
"The dining room is this way" Mina pointed as she lead the way. We looked around in awe as we followed her.
The place was still as huge as I remembered it, so delicate, so fancy, so rich.
We walked across their library, it was filled with thousands of books. This would've been heaven for me.
We walked across their indoor pool room. It had a water slide and a hot tub near by. The pool went from 3 ft deep to about 10 feet deep.
We finally made it to the dining table and the food was already put out for us.
Mr. Talikki was there, sitting at the table, looking down at his phone, typing.
"We're back daddy" Mina announced to him before she sat in a chair.
Mr. Talikki looked up from his phone and smiled.
"Great! Breakfast is already served, so you guys can sit down and eat as you please!" he said as he clasped his hands.
"Don't mind if I do!" Beval happily said as he jogged over to sit next to Mina.
Gaia sat next to Beval and I sat across from Robin and next to Mr. Talikki.
Scrambled eggs, omelettes, bacon, sausage and pancakes, orange juice and apple juice filled the table.
With a big spoon, I reached for the eggs first, since I love them so much.
"So, how's the hideout treating you all?" Mr. Talikki asked us.
"Safe, very safe" I replied before placing a fork full of eggs in my mouth. Robin, Gaia, and Beval nodded in agreement as they ate.
"Great! So Mina, Beval, how are you two coming along?" Mr. Talikki asked as he raised his eyebrows up and down.
"Pretty good, who knows, we might become a couple before the summer" Mina said as she glared at Beval.
Beval looked at Mina and blushed. He smiled with a mouth full of pancakes.
"So Mr. Talikki, what are your plans for World War 3? Like, how are you going to protect your family from it?" Gaia asked.
Mr. Talikki and Mina looked at each other, then at Gaia.
"Hmm, we aren't really sure" Mina replied.
"But didn't one of you said before that you had a plan to hide from the destruction of World War 3?" Gaia asked.
That's when all of us went quiet and looked at Mina and her dad.
"Ah yes, we did! We hired a team to fix up a place somewhere, not the one in our backyard of course. It is almost done being polished. It was abandoned during World War 2 and is being fixed as we speak" Mr. Talikki confessed with a big smile.
"What is the place?" Gaia asked in curiosity.
"That we can't say" he replied with a wink. Before Gaia could respond with another question he turned to Mina.
"So Mina, how is school?" Mr. Talikki asked.
"Pretty good" She replied with a shrug. She looked at Beval. "People are asking me about you Beval."
"Really? What did they say?" Beval asked her.
"They asked if you were still alive and I told them I didn't know."
"Good" Gaia spoke up as she put more food into her mouth. "Nobody needs to know that we are still alive. We need to stay below the radar."
"I agree, it's best that way Gaia" Mina said to her.
Gaia looked at her and made a quick smile in response.
"Did you guys come up with a plan for what to do after these five years of extermination?" Mr. Talikki asked us.
Me and my friends just looked at each other.
"No sir, not yet" Robin answered.
Mr. Talikki just frowned.
"Awe, that's too bad. If you guys find a shelter or find somewhere safe after World War 3, and if we do survive, we can all start over, start fresh and move on for the better. Hopefully, humanity will finally learn their lesson first. And who knows, if we are all still in touch, me and Beval might get married" Mina said as she winked at Beval.
Beval giggled shyly in response.
"Gross..." Gaia mumbled.
We all looked at her.
She quickly looked up at us. "Oh no, I was just thinking out loud. I wasn't talking about you guys, I was just thinking about something gross, hahaha" Gaia nervously laughed.
After that delicious breakfast, Mina wanted us to stay out for a few more hours more since she wanted to spend time with us.
She decided for us to hang out with her in the house's library and relax.
"Ahhh, what a long day" Gaia moaned as she slouched in a beanbag chair.
"The day just started" I responded, looking up from my book.
"Isn't every day a long day, especially with what's going on?" Robin asked Gaia. Mina was doing Robin's hair, putting it into two French braids.
"Yeah true, I refuse to watch the news anymore because all it shows are disturbing videos of people being separated from their families and being taken away to camps, never to be seen again" Gaia replied in sadness.
"I try not to think about it, but it doesn't matter, me not thinking about it doesn't make the situation go away. How can humanity be so cruel to its own people? There has to be a way to stop this" Robin said as she stroke her chin.
"There's nothing we can do, all we can do is pray that it doesn't happen to us, and all we can do is protect our families and ourselves for what will come after" Beval spoke up as he looked up from the book he was reading.
"I agree Beval, I agree" Mina replied, nodding her head.
Afterward, there was about a two-minute silence between all of us.
"So, what do you guys want to talk about?" Mina asked, breaking the silence while finishing up Robin's hair.
"Anything really, it doesn't matter to me" Gaia shrugged.
"Hmm, I know what we should talk about" Mina smiled.
"What?" Robin asked before she got up to look at herself in a mirror.
"Let's talk about philosophical things like religion, the existence of God, the meaning of life, and much more. Does anybody here believe in God?"
Beval and Gaia were the only ones who raised their hands. I raised my hand somewhat.
"What religion are you Shimizu?" Mina asked me.
"I'm agnostic, so I am not sure if there is a god, there is a possibility, but I don't know."
"Hmm, interesting, what about you Gaia and Beval?"
"I am Catholic" Beval answered.
"I'm Christian" Gaia answered.
"I am an atheist. I don't care for gods or any of the religions, nor do I think a god exists" Robin spoke up as she sat down in a chair.
"Really? I honestly don't know what religion I believe in. But I do believe that the meaning of life is trying to survive at all cost. No matter what happens, you have to survive, even if that means others won't" Mina explained.
"Wow, that's a really deep but dark thought you have there" I said as I furrowed my eyebrows at Mina.
"It's just a thought" Mina shrugged, crossing her arms and legs on the couch.
While I was listening to the deep philosophical conversations that Beval, Gaia, Robin, and Mina were having, the telephone across the library started ringing.
"I'll get it" Mina said getting up.
I was expecting it to be our parents or maybe Beval or Gaia's sibling.
I watched Mina talk on the phone with the person briefly before walking over towards me.
"Someone wants to talk to you" she said as she pointed towards the phone before sitting back down.
"It's probably my mom or dad" I replied, getting up from my chair.
"Most likely your dad. It was a male" Mina responded.
I walked across the library and place the phone to my ear.
"Hello?"
"Dude, dude, it's me, Danny!"
"Danny? How, how did you get this number?" I asked, trying not to be loud so I don't startle my friends as they continued to have deep convos.
"No time to explain, but I'm calling because you and you're friends are in danger! You need to get out of that house!"
"What?! Danny, just calm down, what is going on?"
Danny stuttered for several seconds before finally calming down.
"Kid, you and your friends being in that girl's house is a setup! It's a trap! That place isn't safe, she deceived you guys!"
"What?!" I said in shock.
"Inviting your friend to her party was a setup! Befriending you guys was a setup! Inviting you to hide in her underground hideout was a setup! Her father is one of the leaders of the W.E.A. agency, that's why they are so rich! The F.E.M.A guards will take you guys away any minute if y'all don't get out of there!" Danny yelled in a panic.
I started panicking myself. I couldn't believe it. How could I have been so stupid? We've should've listened to Isabella.
"How much time do we have?! Are they here?!" I asked in a panic, afraid of the answer.
Before Danny could answer, I heard a big breaking sound from the phone, it sounded like someone broke through a door.
"Ah! Get off of me! Let me go! Let go of me!" I heard Danny scream.
There was so much commotion going on, I couldn't tell what was happening.
"Danny?! Danny?! Are you there?!" I asked, scared and concerned.
All I could hear was a bunch of commotion, voices and Danny shouting at someone. That's when the phone cut off.
I stood there, flabbergasted.
"Oh my god" I mumbled as I realized what just happened.
I sprinted back over to my friends.
"We have to get out of here, all of us, now, we have to leave!"
"Dude, what the heck is up with you?" Beval asked me as he got up from his chair.
Robin and Gaia looked at each other then looked at me.
"This is a setup! This is all a setup!" I yelled at them.
"What? Shimizu, what are you talking about?" Robin asked me, probably thinking I was insane.
I looked at Mina.
My friends looked at her too.
She was sitting in her chair, staring dead at us, giving us an evil smirk.
She slowly raised her arm up in the air and snapped her fingers five times.
That's when I realized...she was giving a signal.
Immediately, about four or five F.E.M.A officers came from out of three library closet doors that were behind us and grabbed us. Once they got a hold on us, each one of them took out a needle and stuck one into our necks.
We grunted and gasped in pain.
After they injected an unknown substance into us, they tried to take us away.
Beval fought back by kicking the officer in the shin, only to get punched hard in the stomach. He cried out in pain and started coughing vigorously as he was being dragged away by his shirt.
"Beval!" Gaia screamed out as she was squirming in the tight grip of the officer.
Robin bit the officer's arm in defense, resulting in him knocking her out cold with a police stick.
"Robin! No!" I yelled out to her.
The officer set his hand over Gaia's mouth because she couldn't stop screaming and crying.
"Why are you doing this?!" I shouted at Mina as we were being taken away.
She put her hand up to order the officers to stop and they did just that.
"We are doing this to save the human race, to save ourselves from becoming extinct. The world is becoming too populated, and what better way to lower the population than by getting rid of you "Super Humans"?" Mr. Talikki answered for Mina as he walked into the library and stood next to her.
"This is for the great of good. We are doing a good deed for the human race. You Super Humans were trouble anyway, you used your powers for evil, murder, destruction, cruelty, selfishness and carelessness. We have every reason to exterminate you and your kind" Mina said.
"We never used our powers for those kinds of things. We aren't like that, never have been. Killing millions of innocent people who weren't asked to be experimented on is not a good deed at all! It's evil!" Gaia yelled at Mina as she moved her mouth away from the man's hand.
"It is a good deed Gaia, maybe not to you though. We have a place to hide from all that is to come. We are going to take shelter in a huge underground nuclear hideout. It is made to fit hundreds of people inside. But it doesn't matter if I tell you this or not, you are all going to be exterminated, so it's not like you're going to be there."
"You, you set us up?!" Beval asked, looking up at Mina as he groaned in pain.
She walked over and crouched down near him.
"Awwe, yes I did sweetheart, it was all part of the plan; inviting you to the party, befriending you and your friends, and pretending that I actually liked you."
She lifted Beval's head up.
"But hey, if you weren't a super human, as handsome as you are, I would've totally dated you" She smile before she made an evil giggle, proceeding to walk away from him.
"You can take them away, we don't need them anymore" Mr. Talikki said to the officers as he lit up a cigar, dismissing us.
The officers nodded and began taking us away.
That's when I had no choice but to use my water powers against the officers, but for some strange reason they weren't working. What the officer injected into me was probably the reason why my powers weren't working. So, therefore, I went on to option number two: Fight.
I elbowed the officer in the throat, kneed him in the pelvis and kept hitting him repeatedly. Obviously, the officer was fighting back, but because of the position I was in, I had the advantage.
I felt a sudden sharp pain in my arm.
I looked over and saw the officer that was holding Robin over his shoulder, was pointing a tranquilizer gun at me.
I looked and saw that he had already shot the tranquilizer bullet into my arm.
I started feeling dizzy and the room started, my eye site was blurry.
All I could hear were the faint cries of Gaia and Beval screaming out my name as my vision ascended into pitch black darkness.
