Chapter 20
*Shimizu Hada's POV:
"What made him thought I was capable of sneaking into the girl's side of Group 2?! I'm not the sneakiest nor the fastest person? If I get caught, I'm dead!" I thought to myself.
"Why me?!" I asked him, overwhelmed and scared by the idea of sneaking to a side of the camp I have no business being in.
"Because Beval and Mohammed aren't doing it, they will be too busy telling all of the prisoners on your side of Group 2 about the revolt! Don't think that you're doing this alone, I'm going to send a guy in my own group to tell the girl's side of Group 3. So therefore, you need to suck it up and just do it! You can either tell your redheaded friend or your kinky-haired friend" Danny suggested.
"Their names are Robin and Gaia. Secondly, what if the girls in Robin's or even Gaia's cabin see me? What if they tell the guards that I'm there?" I asked, trying to persuade him to not let me go.
"If the guards see you, well, you can kiss your ass goodbye. But I am pretty sure that if the girls see you, they wouldn't tell the guards, they would probably just be bewildered. But so what if they are? Just tell Robin or Gaia about our plan then skedaddle back to the boy's side, simple as that."
"So how do we set up the revolt then? Will it be off guard? Will it be like a secret attack?" Beval asked.
"Yes, yes it will. Okay, listen closely, this is what I think we should do: at around 2:55 am, we will wait near our cabin doors until the clock hits three. Once it does, we will barge out of our cabins, attack the guards, kill them, take their guns and shoot other guards with them" Danny explained.
"Kill them with what exactly?" I asked.
"If you are talking about before taking their guns, just use a sharp piece of wood or a knife to kill them or just beat them to death" Danny suggested with a careless shrug.
"What?! This is how the revolt will go?! I was expecting something way more epic, this sounds too simple, but at the same time, it sounds dangerous" Mohammed groaned in disappointment.
"Whether it's simple or not, it is still a revolt. After you guys fight off the guards in Group 2 and me and the other prisoners fight them off in Group 3, we will make our way to Group 1. The prisoners in Group 1 are little children, so they won't go very far revolting by themselves, we will have to fight for them."
"What if we die doing this?" Mohammed asked.
"Then we die" Danny shrugged with a slight chuckle. "But it will be for a good reason. This whole revolt will be all over the news worldwide, everybody will be talking about it, which is a good thing. This may lead to more revolts of imprisoned experi-babies. It will give them a sense of hope and that they still have a chance of survival."
"Hm, so what do we do after the revolt?" Beval asked, stroking his arms as the cold weather seemed to affect him more and more.
"Good question Beval. We hide."
"That's it?" Beval asked, giving Danny the side eye.
"Until we can figure out another plan, yes. Okay, so to summon everything up; we will barge out of our cabins once the clock strikes three. We will fight guards, make our way to Group 1 and defend the little prisoners there. Then once all of the guards are wiped out, we'll head to the front gates of the camp. That is where we will try to destroy the lock that is keeping it shut and get the hell out of here" Danny summarized.
"And what if it doesn't work?" Beval asked him, a little pessimistic.
"The revolt? Well, there is no reason for the revolt to not work, I mean, all we have to do is fight against the guards and overpower them. It would only not work if the guards found out, you didn't tell enough prisoners, or if the prisoners don't have the courage to go about it. But overall, it should be pretty simple."
"Yeah, simple way to die" Mohammed mumbled as he looked away, crossing his arms.
"Hey, we got this" I said to Mohammed, elbowing him.
Danny took a look behind him and realized that two guards were approaching his area now, watching the prisoners.
"I got to go, they're over at my area now, hurry up and repeat the plan to me so that I know you got it" Danny speedily entreated to me.
"In two days at 2:55 am, we wait near the cabin doors and watch the clock, once the clock hits 3:00 am, we will barge out of our cabins and attack any guard in sight. We will take their guns and shoot other guards with it. Then we will make our way to Group 1 and try to fight off the guards for the kids. Finally, we'll try to escape by breaking through the front gate" I said quickly.
"There's a possibly that the kids in Group 1 might start trying to escape by themselves. The Group one guards would be too distracted trying to stop the revolt caused by Group two and three that they wouldn't even worry about the Group 1 prisoners" Danny wondered.
He pushed his wagon, ready to head back.
"Gotta go guys" Danny waved. But a moment later, Danny turned back around at us.
"Shimizu, remember, you have to go over to the girl's side at around three in the morning tonight. You can do it. Just stay quiet, fast and try to blend in with the bushes and trees. You have on green pajamas, so you should be good. I believe in you man."
Danny smiled and made a thumbs up at me. The smile seemed forced.
Hesitantly, I made a thumbs up to him as well.
He proceeded to stroll back over and I looked at Beval and Mohammed.
"Well, that went well. I guess I'll just go and tell everyone" Beval said before walking away.
"Don't tell them while guards are near!" I shouted to him.
"I won't!" Beval shouted back as he was walking away.
"So, do you want to go and tell the others about this as well?" Mohammed asked me.
"Sure. We don't have much time, so we must tell as many people as we can."
From then on, both me and Mohammed went and told every prisoner in sight, when the guards weren't near of course.
We even told them to spread the word about our plan and to only tell others if no guards were near.
Many of the prisoner's reactions spoke louder than their words. They wanted in and were ready to fight.
Others of course, showed fear and confusion, but we had to explain to them that this was our only hope of survival and if we die, we die in honor.
I truthfully could share there fear. The whole thing had me feeling mixed emotions. I was excited but scared, I was courageous but cowardly. I was happy but concerned.
I tried not to be doubtful. I tried my best to keep my head up because in reality, this might be our one-way ticket out of here.
I was tossing and turning in bed, sweating like crazy, even if it was chilly in our cabin.
I kept looking at the clock to see if it was 3:00 am. I just wanted to get this over with.
The guards came in almost two hours ago to check on us, and of course, I pretended to be asleep.
I had to force myself to stay awake. I should've been asleep a long time ago, but I had to stay up until 3:00 for my mission. Like Danny said: that is when the guards are the least active.
For about five straight minutes, I was staring at the clock, waiting.
Once the clock hit 3 am, I slowly got out of bed and tiptoed to the cabin window. I wanted to make sure ahead of time if there were any guards outside my cabin. None. Perfect.
"Hey."
I flinched and quickly turned my head to see who said that. To my relief, it was one of my cabin-mates sitting up in their bed.
"Be careful out there, and use those trees and bushes as an advantage. We are really close to the pathway that leads to the girl's side which is awesome. Just remember to take your time and don't rush it. If you rush it, it will increase your chances of getting caught" my cabin mate counseled.
"Makes sense. Should I worry about the guards up there in the towers?" I replied.
"Not really, they're not near the pathway."
"Oh okay, thanks for the advice man."
"No problem, just helping out one of our fellow revolt leaders. Gosh, I can't wait! I want to kill as many guards as possible. They all deserve to die."
I didn't say anything in response, I just kept looking out of the window to see if it was still okay to go out.
I was under so much pressure; it wasn't even funny. This was literally a matter of life and death and my life was on the line.
"It's time for me to head out. Thank you again" I said as I walked over and grabbed the door handle.
"It's alright, be safe and use common sense."
"Don't worry, I will" I smirked at the boy. It was so dark that I couldn't even see what he looked like.
I slowly opened the cabin door, walked outside and slowly closed the door. I looked around, seeing what to expect.
There weren't any guards in front of my cabin, but there were some to the far left of it. They were a few hundred feet away, talking and babbling on about something.
Their backs were facing me and they carried flashlights as they were talking. Good thing they didn't have K9s. I would've been screwed. Those dogs would've smelled me.
I leaned against the cabin door, blew my breath, looked up to the sky.
"You can do this, you can do this, you can do this, don't die, don't die, don't die, don't die. You got this, you got this, you got this" I whispered to myself, breathing heavily in fear.
I looked to my right and at a pathway that lead up a hill. I couldn't see where it was going because of the many bushes and trees, but it most likely lead to the girl's side of Group 2.
I looked forward and saw a huge bush in front of me.
"Maybe I'll just have to inch my way to the girl's side. Like the boy said, I can't rush it, but at the same time, I can't take forever also. The sun rises at about 7:00-7:30 am" I thought to myself.
I looked over at the guards again. They were still babbling it up, unaware of their surroundings, which was good news for me.
I looked forward at the bush, inhaled deeply, and started to sprint to it. Once I approached the bush, I jumped behind it. I hissed in pain as I crouched down, the bush scratched my leg as my body made contact with it.
The bush made a hush sound as I jumped into it. It was cold and windy, so hopefully the guards thought it was the wind moving through the bushes and trees.
I exhaled and started gasping for air, regretting that I held my breath in for so long.
"Okay, okay, you got this Shimizu, just inch your way to another bush" I said to myself.
I looked around for more bushes and found one that was across from me, about several yards away.
It was right next to the pathway, and in between my cabin and cabin nine.
"Why didn't I just go to this bush instead?! It's closer to the pathway" I scowled at myself.
I peeked out of the bush and looked at the guards that were hundreds of feet away from my cabin.
Still talking and babbling on, until one of them looked behind them at my direction.
I immediately stepped back into the bushes again and crouched down. I prayed to God that they didn't see me. I stayed as quiet as a mouse and didn't make a single sound.
After about a minute or so, I slowly peeked out from the bush to look at them once again.
They were walking away, leaving their spot. It looks like they didn't see me after all. That was my chance to go.
I peeked out of the bush and looked both ways for more guards. Once I saw there was none, I sprinted to the other bush and jumped behind it.
About several seconds after I did so, three guards walked pass. I ducked and stayed absolutely quiet.
They weren't talking, but looking around with wondering eyes, looking for any type of movement, listening for any type of sound. I refused to give them that.
After the guards were out of sight, I waited for a few minutes to make any type of movement.
I peeked out of the bush, looked around and saw that the coast was clear.
That's when I thought of something, something that would be risky, but would take less time; instead of going from bush to bush, I'll just try to jog up the pathway and go from there, but I'll be aware of my surroundings for any guards. It doesn't even look like there are many around. There are some here and there, but not many. I guess Mohammed was right about them being less active at this time.
Therefore, it's now or never.
I looked around again to make sure I was in a good position to go. When I realized the coast was clear, I jump out from behind the bush and jogged up the pathway. As I approached the hill, I kept looking back to see if any guards were coming. None. Hallelujah!
"These guards can't be experienced. They don't even know how to guard. They literally slack around at night and-"
As I was jogging up the hill, my thoughts were interrupted by two guards sitting on chairs, talking to each other. Their backs were facing me and they were holding AK47s. This was becoming even more difficult.
I stopped in my tracks immediately. My eyes wondered around, trying to find someplace to hide. I looked over to my right and saw a big tree.
"This would be a perfect place to hide until I can think of a plan" I thought to myself.
I slowly started tiptoeing to the tree. I kept my eyes on the guards to make sure they didn't look back. Even though it was pretty dark, I am sure they still would've been able to see me.
Once I made it to the tree I hid and crouched down behind the trunk. I only made it a short distance, but I was glad that I was alive so far.
"Okay what should I do? Should I throw a rock down the hill so it will distract the guards and that way I can- nahh, that would only be for a few moments. How about I can go back down to the bottom of the hill and scream bloody murder? That way, when the guards come down to see what's going on, I can sneak pass them and be on my way. Hm, or maybe I cou-"
My thoughts were interrupted by something that sounded like a whole bunch of guys screaming and yelling.
"What the hell?!" I whispered to myself as I looked down at the cabins from the tree on the hill.
There were prisoners from a few cabins, running outside, screaming and yelling in fear. They were scrambling around and running in circles. Some of the prisoners in other cabins just peeked outside and watched. There had to be about a hundred of them.
Many of the guards came running to the scene. Some guards came running from where I was trying to go.
"What in tarnation?!" one of the guards yelled in confusion. They both got up from their chairs and ran down the hill.
I was just as confused as the guards were. One minute it was quiet, the next, it was chaos.
"What the hell is going on here?!" one of the guards that was sitting down yelled out as they approached the craziness.
Once the prisoners saw the guards, they calmed down a bit.
I saw one of the boys approach them. It was Mohammed.
"Sir, there was a huge creature that was looking out of our window! I don't know what it was, but it had to be around seven to ten feet tall and had sharp teeth!" Mohammed yelled out as he gripped on to his hair.
"Yeah, it was probably bigfoot or the mothman, or maybe even a dover demon!" a random boy said.
"Yeah we've all seen it! It was walking around our cabins and it was really scary sir!" another boy said.
The guards just looked at each other, wondering if they should believe it or not.
The camp was right near the woods after all, so hearing about bigfoot and other creatures that usually roamed in the woods wasn't too unusual.
"Look you little hell hounds, there is no such thing as bigfoot! You are going to wake up the whole camp with your foolishness!" One of the guards yelled at them.
"I wouldn't lie about this sir, we're stating facts!" Mohammed yelled out.
As I was looking down from the hill, I searched to see if Beval was part of the crowd. Trying to find him in a crowd of a hundred or so boys that surrounded fifty guards was pretty difficult, especially since the only light we had was the moon and the dim lights on the side of the cabins.
But after a couple stressful moments, I managed to find him. He was staring right back at me, but constantly looking back at the guards. He gave me a wink and a thumbs up.
That's when I realized that this was a distraction. The prisoners made up a plan to distract the guards so that way, I would be able to make my way to the girl's side without much worry.
That was very thoughtful and smart of them.
"Beval, you are something else man" I said out loud, smiling as I shook my head.
I got back up from crouching down and stepped away from the tree on to the pathway. When I made it to the top of the hill, I looked back at Beval and gave him the "deuces" sign, the sign he always gave us when he had to leave and go somewhere.
He did the same, but made sure the guards weren't looking first.
I turned around and started tiptoeing down the hill, but made sure that I was close to the trees and bushes so that way if any unexpected guards come, I can make a quick move to hide.
Once I made it down the hill, the pathway curved to the left.
"Almost there" I said to myself as I stopped to take a break.
"What's going on in the boy's side of Group 2?!" I heard someone say.
"I don't know, Officer Tim on the walkie talkie said that the prisoners saw a creature or something" I heard someone else say.
"What a bunch of idiots, I bet half of them still believe in bigfoot" another responded before they began laughing.
It sounded like 3 guards. They were coming from the girl's side.
"Shit!" I whispered to myself.
I jumped behind a bush that was behind me, crouched down and stayed there, as quiet as a mouse. I swear, this was getting tiring. All of this jumping and forcing myself behind bushes was giving me scars and scratches on my arms.
Once they passed by, I waited about a minute until I stepped from the bushes and started jogging up the pathway to the girl's side.
The path was pretty flat and wasn't hilly like the boy's side.
It took about thirty seconds, but as I was jogging down the pathway that lead to the girl's side, I began to see the girl's cabins, and of course, guards.
They were facing me, but I wasn't that close for them to see me. Plus, they were looking at each other, talking.
I quickly dodged over to the trees that were to the right of the pathway. I hid behind one, trying to stay as quiet as possible.
I prayed that they didn't see me. I was so close to getting caught that my heart skipped a beat.
I was only several meters away from those guards. I was lucky that they didn't see me.
"Now how exactly am I supposed to get around them?! They are blocking the way. Even if I go around them, they will still see me" I whispered to myself in frustration. "Come on Shimizu, think, think, think."
I looked around to see if there was any other way I could go. It was pretty dark so I couldn't see much. I looked up at the trees.
"Maybe I can climb a tree and go from one to another-naahh, I'm not a monkey. Secondly, they would be able to hear the branches. Hm, or maybe I coul-"
Before I could finish talking to myself, somebody held their hand to my mouth and began dragging me away by the back of my shirt. It happened so quickly I didn't even have time to shout.
All that could come out was muffled screams. I squirmed and kicked as I was being dragged somewhere.
I thought it was a guard. I thought this was the end of my life and that I was absolutely screwed to the bone.
The person dragged me into the forest and the sight of the guards grew more distant and distant, until the person stopped dragging me. The person took its hand away from my mouth and I immediately started begging.
"Please don't kill me, please. I was just going for a walk. I wasn't trying to escape. Really. Please, I promise I won't do it again, I promise."
The person flashes their flashlight at me, which caused my face to scrunch up.
"Shimizu?!"
I was bewildered. How did this person know my name?
"Huh? How do you know my name?" I asked in confusion, wondering who the person was.
I could tell it was a female, but her voice sounded so familiar. She shined the flashlight towards her face.
"It's me, Robin."
"Robin?!"
"Yeah" she said before examining my arms. "Why are you all scratched up?!"
"Because of a whole lot of hiding in bushes" I said, embarrassed. "But what I am trying to figure out is, why are you out here so late?!"
"Shhh! The guards will hear you. You see, I am out here because this is punishment."
"Punishment?! For what?!" I asked.
"For cursing at a guard. My punishment is to do hard labor work all night. As I was pulling weeds, I spotted you hiding behind a tree, but I didn't know it was you" Robin yawned. "I swear, this work is harder than what we do during the daytime. I'm so tired and I feel weak, it's so cold that I can't even feel my fingers. I don't feel too good and neither does Gaia. She is a little sick because of the cold, we both are."
I could clearly see that Robin was exhausted. Her skin looked paler and her hair was messy. Her eyes were pink, her nose was runny and there were bags underneath her eyes.
"But why were you trying to go over to the girl's side?" Robin continued, changing the subject.
"I was looking for you. I wanted to tell you about our plan."
"Our?"
"Well, Danny's plan really."
"Danny? Danny is at this camp?" Robin asked in shock.
"Yeah. He is in Group 3. His plan is to start a revolt."
"A revolt?! Like a revolt against the guards?! Come on now, let's be realistic!" Robin stated as she folded her arms in disbelief.
"It can work, really. The plan is that in two days, at around 2:55 am, we will wait near the cabin door for about five minutes until the clock hits 3:00 am. Once the clock hits 3:00, that is when we will barge out, attack the guards, take their weapons and shoot other guards with them. The good news is that there are more prisoners than guards, so we can easily overpower them."
Robin looked at me as if I was crazy, but I kept talking.
"Once we wipe out the guards in Group 2, we, along with prisoners from Group 3, will fight off the guards in Group 1. Since the prisoners in Group 1 are little kids, they won't be able to fight the guards themselves. We would have to fight for them. After that, we'll find a way to break through the secured front gate of the camp and escape this hellhole. We can't climb the gate because of the barbed wire, so we would have to try to break the lock that is securing it."
"Uh, you do realize many people will die if this happens right?" She asked me, trying to see if I really knew what I was doing.
"Yes, and that is a chance that we will have to take. There will be so many prisoners fighting that there will be a small chance that the ones killed will be us. If we die, we will die for a good reason, even coming here to see you was a risk of death, but I still did it, and I survived, so far. If we die, then oh well, we die, but it will be because we fought back and refused to be exterminated."
"I don't know Shimizu. I was already coming up with a plan to escape with you, Gaia, Beval, Kamryn, Kimberly and Katie."
"Who is Kamryn and Katie? And did you just say Kimberly?"
"Katie and Kamryn are these girls I met by Gaia. But yeah, Kimberly is here. She was an experi-baby and we didn't even know it" Robin smiled. "Isn't that crazy?"
"Seriously?! What is her power?"
"She can turn into any animal she wants, it sounds pretty cool. I'd trade my powers for her's anyway."
"Oh wow, all those times she picked on me for being an experi-baby, the whole time she was one too. It doesn't make any sense though, why pick on someone for something you have as well?" I asked, still shocked, but confused at the same time.
"That's a good question Mizu. I don't know" Robin answered, expressionless.
"Well, I want you to tell everyone on the girl's side about our plan. But make sure you tell them while there are no guards around to hear you, and make sure that you tell them to spread the word."
Robin slowly nodded at me, trying her best to comprehend.
"You do remember everything I told you? Right?" I asked with a cocked eyebrow.
"Uh-huh. One thing about me is that I have an awesome memory. Plus, I wouldn't forget something this important."
"I hope so" I sighed, looking away.
There was a silence between us for a few moments.
"So, uh, I guess I'll just go" I said as I stood back up, but Robin quickly grabbed my hand.
"Hey, please be safe, and I promise that I will tell the prisoners. I bet they'll be absolutely excited by the news, especially Kimberly. She will be all in for it. Just be cautious on your way back. Okay?"
"Are you sure you'll be okay out here by yourself, Celosia?"
By the way Robin looked at me, if looks could kill, I would've been six feet under. Before I could say anything else, I got an unexpected hit upside the head, causing me to fall down on my butt.
"How do you know my first name?!" She scowled quietly at me as she grind her teeth.
"Argh, Beval told me" I grunted in pain, rubbing my head.
"Beval? Oh, I'm going to kill him, I'm going to kill him. Oh, just he wait!"
"Why?! Just why?!"
"Because I don't want anyone calling me that. My name is Robin, not Celosia. Ro-bin, got it?!" Robin ranted as she pointed her finger at me.
"But I like your first name. It's amazing" I said quietly, flinching at her every move.
She seemed slightly surprised by my statement.
"What?! There is nothing amazing about my first name."
"There is, it's very beautiful and unique. It kind of reminds of a princess. A beautiful princess of an alien planet. Why are you so anxious to hide your name anyway? There is nothing wrong with it."
For once, Robin was quiet.
"Celosia, are you ok-"
"Stop calling me that, okay?! You don't understand, I hate it. It's weird, it's ugly and it's just not a normal name."
"Robin, you don't have to think that way" I calmly explained to her.
"I was named after a type of flower. Celosia means "burning" in Greek which is an utter coincidence because I control Fire. My parents wanted to be weirdos and wanted to be different and think outside of the box, so they named me "Celosia". It makes me sick just thinking about it. The only people I let call me "Celosia" are my parents because they're the ones who named me after all. Gaia and Beval know my first name, but they call me Robin out of respect. Everyone at school knew my first name, but they wouldn't dare to call me by it because they knew that I'd punch them right then and there. Robin is my middle name. My full name is Celosia Robin Douglas."
"You don't need to feel insecure about your name anymore. Honestly, "Robin" is a pretty name, but "Celosia" is just gorgeous. Your name is beautiful, and you shouldn't let anyone make you think otherwise."
"You're only saying that because you're my friend" Robin sighed as she crossed her arms and looked up at the moon.
"No Robin. I'm saying that because it is true."
Robin scoffed. She stood up and slowly strolled over to sit on a very low tree branch.
I walked over and sat next to her. I looked down at the ground as I placed my hands into my pockets and kicked around dirt.
"I would never lie to you. Your name is dazzling and I bet the flower that you're named after is just as beautiful as you."
Robin turned her head and looked at me. Her eyes widened.
It took me a few moments to realize what I had just said.
"I mean in a friendly way of course" I giggled nervously as I snapped out of my gaze. She blew her breath in relief.
"Oh, okay then. Thanks" Robin giggled.
"So, are you alright about this whole revolt thing? Or do you have trouble understanding?" I asked, changing the subject.
"Umm, I don't know Shimizu. This whole "revolt" just seems too risky. I hate to say it because I usually don't say it, but I am honestly scared."
I drifted closer to her and lifted up her chin up to look at me. Her fiery orange eyes looked into my ocean blue eyes.
"Hey, we got this. You got to have faith Cel- I mean Robin. Hahaha" I giggled.
"If you say my name again, I will skin you alive with a cheese grater and draw pictures of what's left with a sharpie" Robin threatened with a passive aggressive smile.
"Ouch" I cringed, followed by a shared laugh with Robin.
As we were laughing, I couldn't help but stare at her. She was so aggressive, but beautiful. Loud, but beautiful. Hotheaded, but beautiful. Even through her flaws and her insecurities, Celosia Robin Douglas was gorgeous. The most beautiful girl I had ever laid eyes on.
She noticed I was staring at her and stared back. It felt like we were staring into each other's eyes forever. I couldn't stop looking, I didn't want to stop looking.
She was quiet and looking straight at me. Her face showed curiosity and an intense wonder of what I was about to do. I slowly reached out and grabbed her hands.
"Robin."
That was all I could say. I didn't know what I was doing, but my subconscious wanted me to do it.
I leaned in closer to her and gracefully kissed her cheek. But immediately after, she gently shoved me away.
"Shimizu, I think it's time for you to head back. You can't stay here forever" Robin calmly said as she made a faint smile.
"Oh, well, yeah, you're right. Please be safe out here and tomorrow night, get plenty of rest. We've only been here for a little over a day and you already look like you're about to break down" I chuckled.
"I'll be fine. Just make sure your ass doesn't get caught on the way back."
"I won't. See you later Robin" I waved as I began to make my way back. Good thing I could still see the glimpse of cabins or else I would've been lost.
"Bye Shimizu" she quietly sighed, waving before getting back to work.
"Why on earth would I do that?! I hope she doesn't see me as a creep now. Just because I like Robin doesn't mean I should try and kiss her cheek. We only met five or six months ago! Plus, she probably doesn't like me in that way. Next time I see her, I must apologize. I should've never done that" I thought to myself as I tiptoed back to the tree that I was hiding behind.
The guards that were on the pathway before weren't there anymore.
I looked back at Robin to see where she was, but she was nowhere to be found.
I turned back around when I heard what sounded like men talking and the crunching of snow becoming louder and louder. You've guessed it, more guards.
I crouched down behind the tree and waited for the guards to pass by, keeping my eye on them as they walked to the girl's side. I tried my hardest to not make any sudden movements or sounds.
Once they were gone, I blew my breath in relief and peeked from the tree, looking both ways for any guards. No guards so far.
I stepped into the pathway and tiptoed back the way I came. The journey back was the same as the journey to the girl's side. Constantly jumping and hiding behind bushes every time guards walked past.
As I made it up the hill to the boy's side. I saw that the prisoners were still babbling to the guards about the nonexistent creature they saw. Some guards even considered checking the forest out for anything. Other guards just scoffed and rolled their eyes, but were still entertained by the prisoners.
The good news was that the guard's didn't see me approaching the boy's side. Beval spotted me as I was on the top of the hill, coming back. He whispered to another prisoner, who nodded in response.
"Ahhh, I just saw it run off!" the prisoner yelled as he ran over near the woods and pointed.
The prisoners began to point at absolutely nothing, making it seem like they all saw something that the guards couldn't see.
All fifty or so guards looked at the woods from their distance, trying to see what the prisoners were talking about.
Those prisoners were such good actors that the guards were really starting to believe it, getting their guns ready and everything as they slowly walked towards the woods.
This was my time to sprint down the hill and back to my cabin, safely. I looked at my cabin, it was in plain sight. Only several meters away from the hill. I took a deep breath and began sprinting.
I tried my best to not make a sound, but even if I did, the guards wouldn't have heard it with all of the prisoner's loud chanting.
As I quickly approached my cabin, I tried to catch my breath as I collapsed on to the steps. I was so ready to end this night; it wasn't even funny.
Once I got myself together, I opened up the cabin door, slowly walked over to my bunk and flopped on the bed.
"Ugh" I moaned out loudly.
Even if I was tired physically, mentally I wasn't. Things were still going through my mind.
I thought about Robin and how I should apologize. I thought about the revolt and what we should do after. Obviously, the police were going to be looking for us, so we should find a nice place to hide.
I thought about school and wondered if the teachers and students even cared that we were gone. I even wondered about my family and if they knew that we were in an extermination camp.
I wondered what would they do if they knew. I wondered how would they react when they find out. I wondered if they found out that Mina was the one who set us up. I wondered, I honestly wondered.
