Chapter 3

*Gaia King's POV:

(Her name is pronounced: Guy-ya)

He looked so lonely over there, plus he looked like he wanted to come over here and talk to us. But what amazed me about him was his striking blue eyes. They were so pretty.

Is this the boy that Robin was talking about?

The one from the other day?

She said that there was a possibility that we weren't the only "experi- babies" (as I like to call people who were experimented on when they were babies or young children) in school.

After all, there were probably a lot in San Francisco, but we just didn't know about them. There was a possibility that the boy could be the one we were looking for:

The one who could control water.

Me, Robin and Beval made up three of the four elements, but we were still missing one and that was water and I honestly hoped that this boy was it. My gut was telling me that it might be it.

I mean, I could tell by his eye color. Me and my friends all had unnatural eye colors because of our powers. All of the colors fit their element, so maybe we just found another experi-baby just like us.

The East Asian boy took a while to respond to my invitation.

"Uhhh, sure," he said as he scratched his head.

He slowly got up from his seat and sat over near us, right next to Robin.

"So what is your name?," Beval asked with a smile, revealing his silver braces.

The boy stuttered a little. He didn't look us in the eyes at all.

"Ummm, I-I am Shimizu Hada, and you?"

"My name is Beval Garcia-Hernandez, but I go by Beval Hernandez."

"Well, it's nice to meet you Beval" Shimizu smiled as he looked up at him for the first time.

I decided this was my chance to make a good first impression.

"And my name is Gaia King" I spoke up with such confidence, it would've seemed as though I was Beyoncé.

"Gaia? That's a really pretty name" he smiled.

"Aww thank you, you're too kind. It means "Earth" in Greek."

Shimizu looked at Robin.

Robin was drawing something on her binder, pretending to ignore the conversation that was going on between the us.

"And your name?," Shimizu asked as he stared at Robin.

Robin placed her marker down and looked at him.

"Robin, Robin Douglas" she quietly said before continuing to doodle on her binder.

"Her real name is Celo-"

Before I could finish, Robin stepped on my foot and gave me an evil look. I whimpered in pain.

"You better not" Robin quietly scowled.

I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms.

Robin's first name was Celosia, but she didn't like it when people called her by her first name.

I so happened to think that her first name was beautiful, but she herself thought it was ugly.

"What was that?" Shimizu asked.

"Nothing, nothing important" Robin said with a fake smile before giving me another evil eye.

"But anyways, it is really nice to meet you Shimizu. Are you from here?" I asked with a sweet voice, trying to forget about what just happened.

"Yes, but I moved here with my family from Tokyo when I was a baby" he replied.

"Really?! I am from the city of Guadalajara in Western Mexico, but I moved here with my parents and older sister when I was two. We all moved to this country when we were very young. What a coincidence, huh? But I think it's kind of stupid how our parents decided to move to the country that kidnaps children from other countries as well as theirs and does weird experiments on them" Beval ranted.

"Yeah, it kinda is. My parents made the same dumb decision" Shimizu chuckled as he scratched his arm.

"Well, I am from the city of Charlotte Amalie in St. Thomas, which is a part of the U.S. Virgin Islands. I moved here when I was three" I said proudly.

"Awesome!"

He turned to Beval.

"So, what made your parents move from Mexico to the U.S?"

"For better opportunities" he answered.

"The reason my parents decided to move us from the U.S. Virgin Islands to the United States was because they were sick of seeing the same people. The Virgin Islands, both the British Virgin Islands and U.S. Virgin Islands are pretty small" I explained.

"I am from Glasgow, Scotland. I came here with my family when I was three. My parents just felt like they needed a fresh start" Robin said as she looked up from her binder and smiled at Shimizu.

"Really? That's the reason my parents moved here!" Shimizu chuckled. He looked into our eyes. "You guys have very unusual eye colors, they're really pretty though. But I'm not the one to talk, my eye color is pretty unusual too."

"Yeah, you do have an unusual eye color" Beval agreed as he looked into Shimizu's eyes intensely. It kind of made Shimizu a little uncomfortable.

"Um, can I help you?" Shimizu asked as Beval continued to stare.

Me and Robin just looked at each other, then at the boys.

Before I could tell Beval to stop, he proceeded to ask Shimizu a question.

"If you don't mind me asking, have you been experimented on as a baby?"

Shimizu paused in place. He twisted his lips and looked down at his lap, not knowing how to respond or what to say.

"Beval, why would you ask him that?! That's a very personal question. Look at him, you're making him uncomfortable!" I rambled.

Beval just looked at me as if to say "I know what I'm doing". Shimizu was hesitating to answer the question.

Moments went by and he finally answered.

"Yeah...why?"

"Okay, so, what powers did they give you?" Beval asked.

Shimizu stayed silent.

"Hm?" Beval moaned, waiting for an answer.

"Why do you need to know?! So you can be scared of me like everyone else?!" Shimizu snapped.

Beval leaned back a little, startled.

Robin froze from drawing on her binder and looked at Shimizu with a surprised expression.

He went from a timid, cute, shy kid to a "don't mess with me" kid. But you know what they say: it's always the shy ones that are the deadliest.

I wanted to interfere, I wanted to tell Beval again that he needed to stop asking him personal questions. Before I could speak, Beval responded to him.

"No dude, I just wanted to know. We aren't going to be scared or avoid you or anything. Really. You didn't ask to have powers, they were given to you. They may feel like a curse, but trust me...you are not alone" Beval explained, trying to reason with Shimizu.

Shimizu gave Beval a suspicious look then looked at me and Robin.

"Really, you aren't alone because we were experimented on too" Beval added.

This surprised Shimizu, but it also comforted him a little. He exhaled, ready to speak.

"I can control water."

Our eyes grew wide in shock, and we turned and looked at each other. My gut feeling was right all along.

"I knew it" Robin muttered.

I quickly stood up from my chair and spoke up.

"Prove it to us then!"

They all looked at me.

"If you really are what you say you are, then prove to us that you can control water!" I yelled as I gave Shimizu a desperate look.

"Do I have t-"

"Yes!" I shouted, interupting Shimizu.

"O-okay then, I don't really like using my powers, but if you want proof, then I'll make it happen, I guess."

Shimizu got up and walked over to the classroom sink.

"I'm not the best at using my powers, but I can still try something"
he announced from the classroom sink.

Me, Robin and Beval got up from our seats and stood ten feet away from Shimizu, prepared to watch.

"If you are lying, then I will certainly knock you out, no questions asked" Robin threatened.

Both me and Beval giggled at Robin, but she just rolled her eyes at us.

Shimizu turned on the sink. He filled the sink up halfway and placed his hands into the water. He closed his eyes, blew his breath, then proceeded to use his powers.

As he moved his hands away from the sink, the water came out of the sink and followed. He moved his hands side to side and the water followed the motion. As he moved his hands around his body, it swirled around him, wrapping him up but not wetting him. The water that he was controlling was about five feet long and was swirling around him so gracefully and elegantly.

The sound of rushed water filled our ears and was beyond satisfying to hear.

Me, Robin and Beval were amazed.

"He really can control water" I squealed at Robin.

Robin just looked at me and looked back. Her mouth was opened and her eyes filled with curiosity.

As Shimizu finished, he placed his hands above the sink. He stretched out his hands so that the water wouldn't follow the motion with his hands anymore and would go down the drain.

After he was done, he bowed sarcastically to us.

We couldn't speak, we didn't want to speak, we just stared at him in amazement.

"So, that's that" Shimizu said as he brushed off his hands before awkwardly going back to his seat.

A few seconds later, Ms. Belowski came into the room.

"Sorry I took so long kids, I had to print out a whole bunch of papers" Ms. Belowski said as she walked into the classroom holding a bunch of stacked papers.

Ms. Belowski coming in snapped us out of our gaze and we all went back to our seats. I noticed that she was struggling with the stack of papers, so being the sweet and kind girl I was, I decided to try to help her out.

"Do you need any help Ms. Belowski?" I asked as I got up from my desk.

"Yes, thank you. Can you take some of these green papers and place it in this purple folder?" she directed as she patted the folder.

"Hey, I want to help too" Beval insisted as he got up and ran to the teacher's desk.

"Sure thing, just put these pink papers into this red folder."

As I was putting the green papers into the folder, I looked up and saw that Robin was staring at Shimizu.

When he noticed that she was staring at him, he tensed up and quickly opened his binder and flipped through pages to distract himself.

I had a feeling this would be the start of a beautiful friendship.
