Chapter 33
*Robin Douglas's POV:
(Two days after Chapter 32)
We've been on this boat trip for the past six days now, and things were going a little shaky.
Kimberly had been seasick for a couple days. Shimizu couldn't stop thinking about that dream he had, even though I told him a million times that it was just a nightmare.
Beval was acting awkward around Gaia. Every time she got close to him; he would walk away from her. I wanted to confront him about how stank he was acting, but I had to put myself in his shoes. If someone I was best friends with for years told me they liked me, I would freak out too. It saddened Gaia that he was acting that way towards her, but she kept her composure and continued to be nice to him. Danny was deep in thought about lord knows what and it seemed as though me, Mohammed and Katie were the only normal-acting ones.
It was now April 1st, 2019, 2:06 pm.
It wasn't as cold as it would be for early April. It was about seventy-five degrees outside which would feel like summer to a person who was out in the cold for what felt like forever. It was like a relief, like Mother Nature had mercy on us and gave us a warm day. We were recovering from the sickness we were experiencing from working in the freezing cold, so the weather helped a lot, along with the help of some medicine we took.
"Hey Robin" someone called as I was staring out into the blue ocean. I snapped out of my thoughts and turned my head towards the person. It was Shimizu.
"Oh, hey Mizu" I said with a faint smile.
"Are you doing alright? Danny said we should be at the island by tomorrow" he announced, approaching me as he was cleaning his glasses.
"That's good. I'm excited" I replied emotionless, looking back out into the seemingly endless ocean. I wasn't excited at all. The ocean relaxed me. I wasn't ready to leave this boat just yet. There's just something about being at sea that calmed me. I felt like I was on a cruise ship. A small rusty one.
The rest of my friends were chilling outside with us. No one was downstairs.
Gaia, Katie and Kimberly were standing in a group, talking and giggling about something. Mohammed was chatting with Beval as they leaned against the rails of the boat, and Danny was chilling by himself, laying down on his back, looking up at the sky.
A cool breeze of wind came along from the east, giving me goosebumps on my arms. My red curly mane flowed like a flame as I tucked a piece of hair behind my ear.
I looked at Shimizu. I caught him staring at me in awe before he quickly looked away.
I tell you; he was strange at times.
"Are you okay?" I asked him, a little uncomfortable.
"Oh yeah, I'm fine. You just don't sound at all excited" he stated, concerned as he rubbed his arm.
"I've never been out in the ocean like this. This is heaven to me. I don't want to leave because I know we will be fighting for our lives all over again."
"Well Robin, all good things must come to an end" he responded with an unfortunate sigh.
"I guess, but I don't want to lose another person. We already lost Kamryn, and Katie seems to be acting like everything is okay, but I know she is hurting like hell inside. Last night while everyone was asleep, I heard her quietly crying. I don't have a sibling, so I can only imagine what it feels like to lose one."
A deep sigh came from me as I leaned back against the rail and looked up at the cloudy sky. Shimizu did the same.
"I wonder how Hikari is handling everything that is going on. I wonder how my Mom and Dad are handling it too. Are they upset or happy or enraged? I guess I'll find out when I get home" Shimizu said in a gaze, as if he was daydreaming.
"I'm pretty sure our parents are happy to find out we're alive. Why wouldn't they be? Why would they be enraged?" I asked with a cocked eyebrow.
Through his glasses, his eyes sparkled like deep blue crystals as he looked at me. It was that look again, that tender look he always gave me. I hated it but loved it at the same time. I hated it because it brought out the softness in me, but I loved it because it comforted me in a way.
"Because, instead of going straight home, we are on our way to danger: W.E.A Headquarters. I can see why our parents would freak out. Hopefully they won't punish us when we get back" Shimizu chuckled a little before wrapping his arm around me. "But it's going to be okay though."
"How do you know?" I asked him.
"Umm, I don't know. You know how you just have a feeling right? A feeling that everything is going to go as plan?"
"Well yea, but-"
"Look Robin, I don't want to do this just as much as the next person. But we can't just go home and expect everything to be fine without getting this done. We came so far, why stop now? This reminds me of that dream I had for example. Even though you say it was just a nightmare, that's what our city would look like years from now if we allow this to happen. Totaled. Chaos. Destruction. We will save these experi-babies, for what it's worth" Shimizu preached.
"Okay Shimizu Super Hada to the rescue, I guess" I teased as I grabbed his button nose.
"Haha, you know Robin, you used to be violent. But now, you're more peaceful and rational" Shimizu randomly stated, changing the subject. As his arm was wrapped around me, he began playing with my hair.
I looked at Shimizu with glaring eyes.
"I beg your pardon? I have always been that way. You're still the nerd I met months ago, you're just more social" I snapped back as I crossed my arms.
To my surprise, Shimizu made a swirl of water come from the ocean and splash me in the face with it.
"What the heck! Shimizu, I'm going to kill you!" I yelled out in anger, wiping my face.
He giggled as he zoomed away at full speed. I chased him around the boat, fire blazing out of my hands.
"Whoa, whoa, no running kids. Robin, you might want to put away your fire powers. I don't want you to lite anything on this boat on fire" Danny demanded after stopping me and Shimizu in our tracks.
"Fine" I responded with attitude as I made the fire from my hands go out.
"Yo Shimizu, you still worrying about your dream, or no?" Beval asked, approaching him with his hands in his pockets. His brown wavy hair flowed in response to the wind, covering half of his face.
"I'm still a little freaked out, but Danny said that it was just a dream, just something from my unconscious. Nothing more" Shimizu replied to Beval with a shrug.
"Yeah, but it does have a bit of a prophecy to it. It shows how World War 3 might turn out. It might be even worse than the dream" Danny spoke up before heading to the mainsail to fix it. "The wind is getting kind of bad out here, there must be a storm on the way. Look at the sky, it's getting cloudier and darker by the minute."
I, Shimizu and Beval looked up at the sky. Danny was right. To the south, thunder clouds were approaching and the water around us was becoming more unruly and wild. Drops of rain slowly began coming down.
"Eh, it's just rain and thunder. What could go wrong?" Beval smirked with a shrug as he looked at us.
Since Beval was there with me and Shimizu, and to take our minds off of the upcoming storm, I decided to bring up something touchy: that legendary kiss. The one between him and our beautiful, sweet friend Gaia. I've been wanting to ask some questions for a few days. Gaia was talking to Katie, Mohammed and Kimberly far on the other side of the boat, so this was the perfect time.
"How are you Beval? How's Gaia? How about that kiss? How was it? Do you like Gaia? Do you think she's hot? Do you love how her green eyes look? Do you want to marry Gaia?" I sneered, asking Beval tons of questions as I caught him off guard and placed him in a headlock, vigorously rubbing the top of his head.
"Yeah Beval, spill it. Tell us everything" Shimizu insisted with a mischievous smile.
"Dang it Robin, let me go!" He grunted as he freed himself from my grasp. He began to blush drastically. "To answer your cringey little questions: I'm fine, and Gaia seems to be doing fine."
"Okay, but, do you like Gai-"
"Stop asking me!" Beval shouted. His cheeks became even more pink as he continued to talk about Gaia. "And yes I think Gaia is pretty. I always had. Just like how I think you're pretty. I love her green eyes and smooth dark skin. Her coarse hair is so free and lively, and I love her dimples when she smiles. She's so adorable when she squeals and jumps around and-"
Beval stopped himself, realizing all the things he just said. Me and Shimizu both looked at each other, then at him. We started teasing him by pretending to be Beval and Gaia.
"Oh Gaia, I love your hair and your skin is so smooth, you make me feel so tingly inside" Shimizu tease, mimicking Beval's deeper, relaxed voice as he clasped his hands into mine.
"Oh Beval, I've loved you all my life, you're so spunky and charming. Let's kiss as my tongue rubs against your shiny braces" I responded, mimicking Gaia's higher, upbeat voice. We both broke out into a laugh.
"Ugh you guys are not funny at all! Just a bunch of idiots!" Beval scowled before storming downstairs. His steps were heavy and furious.
"Aw Beval, what's wrong? Where are you going?" I asked him with a chuckle and a puppy dog face.
"To chill on the couch. I don't have time for clowns" he responded without turning around to look at us. He flopped on the couch and let out a deep groan.
Our laughter was cut short by a loud boom from the sky. Lightning was flashing from cloud to cloud. As the storm grew closer, it looked pretty bad. The boat was rocking harder as waves splashed against its sides.
"Yikes, we better head inside. Hey guys! We should go inside!" Shimizu yelled out to the others.
I, along with Shimizu, Gaia, Mohammed, Katie and Kimberly ran downstairs to escape the rain that was coming down even harder now. But we were missing one person. Danny.
"Wait a minute" I said as I turned to Shimizu. Danny is still up there."
"Why?" Shimizu asked in confusion before running back up the stairs into the outside. I ran up after him.
"Danny!" Shimizu yelled out.
We looked over and saw him hanging on to the sail with dear life.
"Don't come over here, it's too rocky! You'll trip and fall off the boat!" he yelled back.
It was pouring down harder and the waves were becoming wilder and bigger by the minute, some were big enough to splash Danny.
But I was not prepared for what he said next.
"Shimizu! I need you and Beval to stop this weather!" Danny yelled at Shimizu.
"What?! I'm coming over to rescue you!" Shimizu responded as he struggled to make his way over to him, not hearing what Danny said. I on the other hand, stayed near the door. I was getting wet, but it didn't bother me, I just wanted to make sure Shimizu made it safely.
"No! I need you to calm the waves, and I need Beval to calm the sky! Air and Water!" Danny yelled louder.
Shimizu stopped in his tracks.
"What?! I can't do that! My powers aren't strong enough!" he shouted in disagreement.
"Yes you can. With water, you can do anything. If you can make water come from out your hands, you can calm the ocean! You can do thi-"
Before Danny could finish, a big wave of water crashed on the right side of the boat. It caused the boat to tilt tremendously.
I screamed as I lost my balance and fell down the steps. My friends downstairs tumbled and lost their balance.
"Hang on to me!" Mohammed shouted to the others as he hung on to the table. The table was strong enough and sturdy enough to not be phased by the tilting of the boat.
Katie went over and held on to Mohammed, Gaia held on to Katie and Kimberly held on to Gaia. Beval held on to a cabinet door.
As the boat tilted, Danny lost grip of the sail and slid to the rail of the boat. He grabbed on to the bars, almost losing his grip and falling into the water. He held on for dear life.
"Shimizu!" he yelled in desperation.
The boat stopped tilting after seven seconds, but it felt like forever.
"Okay! We'll do it" Shimizu shouted as he hung on to the rail. "Beval!"
I turned around. Beval was looking at me too. He struggled a little but ran pass me and out the door.
"Shimizu?! Danny?!" He shouted, wondering where they were. Once he spotted them hanging on to the rail, he tried his best to make his way over.
"I need you and Shimizu to stop this weather!" Danny ordered. Do it now, before more waves-"
Danny stopped talking and looked out in front of him. His eyes and mouth widen. I saw the movements of his mouth say "oh my god.
Shimizu turned around to see what he was looking at.
"Holy-" he muttered.
Me and Beval turned our heads behind us and saw a huge wave that was coming our way. It had to be no more than a hundred feet tall and it was coming fast. I screamed in horror.
"Shimizu! Beval! If you don't stop this, we will all die! Use your powers to stop the wind and waves! Now!" Danny ordered in fear.
The boat was shaky, but they were able to move fast with a bit of struggle.
With no questions asked, Shimizu and Beval ran to the front of the boat. As Danny slowly made his way to the door, I ran back downstairs.
"Everyone, put your life jackets on, now!" I shouted to my friends as I ran over to the closet to the left of the room and tossed out life jackets. I knew Mohammed couldn't swim, so I gave him one first, and me last.
"What is going on?!" Gaia asked me as she placed on her life jacket.
"There is a huge wave coming and we may need to leave the boat! Everyone upstairs now!" I ordered.
"But we don't have any lifeboats!" Katie announced, running up the stairs behind me, along with the others.
"A lifeboat isn't going to save us Kate, we may need to evacuate!" I replied as we ran outside. At the sight of the wave, Katie screamed in horror as she held on to Kimberly.
I turned my head around to see the wave, it was extremely close now. I didn't even put on my life jacket; I was too distracted by this massive wall of water.
Shimizu and Beval were at the very front of the boat, their hands and arms were raised, trying their best to stop the wind and waves. But it was too late.
It was too close, too close for Shimizu's powers to have an effect on the massive wave.
As it was getting closer, I held on to the rail, hunched down and closed my eyes, preparing for the worst.
The crest of the wave crashed down on us. The force of the impact was so great, it destroyed the boat.
That's when everything went black.
Debris, supplies and parts of the boat scrambled around in the water.
The water slowly began filling my lungs as I was sinking. Moments later, I felt a sensation of arms being wrapped around my torso.
