2. stuck with you

One thing Andrew hated about being in Los Angeles:

1. Time zones.

Andrew hated that every year, for the first couple days of his vacation, he would wake up hours before everyone else because Ohio was three hours ahead of California. And since Andrew normally always woke up pretty early back home, he woke up even earlier in California.

Which is why he was awake, bored out of his mind at 5 in the morning. It felt like 8 to him.

He just laid on the bridge in the small atrium that was placed in the middle of the home, staring up at the sky above him for the sun to come up. He was shocked at how rich his uncle was. An atrium in the middle of your home? It's insane.

As it got closer and closer to 6am, the sky above Andrew got brighter and brighter. His face started to warm up as the sky peaked through the edge of the atrium and he smiled.

He started to hear footsteps come down the stairs, but Andrew didn't move, figuring it was his Aunt Amanda coming down the stairs to greet him. She was the only one that knew what he'd do the early hours in the morning when jet lag messed with him.

"Hey! There he is!"

Andrew lifted his head at the sound of his uncles voice and smiled at Daniel coming toward him. Andrew quickly started to stand up and give the man a hug.

"I'm sorry I didn't get to see you yesterday. I didn't get home from the dojo until late last night." Daniel explained and Andrew's eyebrows furrowed. When Daniel started to walk out of the atrium and toward the kitchen, Andrew followed him, his hands shoved into his pockets.

"Aunt Amanda said you were at the dealership?" Andrew said, leaning on the kitchen table as his uncle made himself some coffee. Daniel nodded, keeping his eyes on the coffee machine as he sighed tiredly.

"During the day, yeah. But I have a student at Miyagi-Do and I've been training him. He's you and Sam's age. I'll bring him over sometime. He could use a friend too." Daniel said, finally turning to face Andrew at the last sentence.

When Daniel turned back to coffee, Andrew frowned, his eyes moving to the floor. "Wow, way to make us both feel horrible." He muttered.

Daniel raised his head, turning to look back at the boy. "What was that?" Daniel asked and Andrew's head snapped back up, smiling to the man. "Said can't wait to him." He quickly saved himself.

His words made Daniel smile, happy about the idea of Andrew and Robby becoming friends. As his cup of coffee finished, Daniel gestured it to Andrew. "You want a cup?" He asked and Andrew quickly shook his head. "No, thanks. I'm not really a coffee guy."

Andrew moved from leaning against the table to taking a seat while Daniel nodded, taking the mug and sitting at the table. When he sat down beside the boy, Daniel smiled. "How about you come to the dojo today? You can meet him then."

Andrew, though he appreciated the offer, hissed and shook his head. "I already told Anthony I would take him to the mall today. I guess there's a new video game he wanted to check out." Andrew said and Daniel frowned for a second before he smiled at the thought of Anthony getting out of the house and away from his electronics for once, even if it was to buy a video game.

"Maybe next time, I guess?" Daniel asked and Andrew smiled, nodding his head. "Definitely."

...

When Andrew told Anthony he would take him to the video game store, Andrew did not expect Anthony to walk through the store five times to make sure he didn't miss a single game.

By the sixth lap around the store, Andrew was close to just leaving Anthony there, ready to bet money that he could watch a movie at the theater on the other corner of the mall, come back, and Anthony would still be circling the store.

Luckily, Andrew's phone rang in his pocket, saving him from his boredom. He looked down and his phone and furrowed his eyebrows when he saw Aisha calling him.

"Hey, Aisha!" Andrew said happily once he answered the phone, walking toward another aisle for some privacy.

"Hey, Andrew, I had a itzy bitzy favor to ask you." Aisha said, her voice getting a little higher toward the end of her sentence. Even though Andrew couldn't see her, he could picture the girls face scrunching in nervousness.

He laughed, mindlessly flipping through the game in front of him. "Hit me." He said, stopping when he saw a spider-man video game. His lips pursed as he pulled the game out of it's slot, flipping it around to read the back.

"Well... I know you just flew in the other day so you're possibly still jet lag..." Aisha started as Andrew decided he didn't want the game anymore after seeing the price. He quickly put it back, nodding his head.

"Yeah..." Andrew said as Anthony made his way into the aisle Andrew was in. The younger boy pushed Andrew out of the way with his hip to look at the video games Andrew was standing in front of.

Andrew rolled his eyes, but held back a comment toward his cousin as Aisha started to speak.

"Well, our sensei is making us having practice and 5am tomorrow and none of our parents are willing to drive us because it's so early. And sensei said if we are late we're off the team." Aisha explained and Andrew, still listening, started to smile as he watched Anthony pick up the same spider-man game he was looking at and immediately put it way after he saw the price.

"So I figured if you'll already be jet lagged, it wouldn't be an issue if you picked us up and took us to karate?" Aisha said, bringing Andrew back into the conversation.

"Us?" He asked, his eyebrows creasing. Anthony, having no clue who Andrew was on the phone with or what they were talking about, turned to face the older boy with raised eyebrows and a smug smirk.

Andrew rolled his eyes, whacking the back of Anthony's head as Aisha explained herself.

"Me and Hawk. One of the guys from the convenient store." She said and Andrew nodded, it was pretty hard to forget the boys from the small store. Especially Hawk since he had a mohawk for Christs sake.

"Sure, I can drive you guys." Andrew answered and he heard Aisha squeal in excitement and yell a faint, "he said yes!"

Andrew figured she was talking to Hawk before her voice became clearer, coming back to the call. "Great! I'll send you Hawk's address and number!"

Andrew squinted at that, his arms crossing as he turned back around to face Anthony, the boy holding six video games in his arms. "Why can't you just tell me how to get to his house after I pick you up first?" Andrew asked as he waved for Anthony to put back some of the games.

"Because you're picking Hawk up first. He lives on the way to me." Aisha explained as Anthony looked back and forth between Andrew and the games in his hand, silently asking him how many he could buy.

Andrew sighed, starting to get annoyed bouncing back and forth between the two conversations. He raised up three fingers to his cousin as he responded to Aisha. "Fine, sure. Send me the addresses, add to me a groupchat, whatever. You have to be there at 5?" He asked, wanting to wrap the call up faster.

And then he noticed Anthony grab two more games.

Andrew clenched his jaw, holding back groaning.

"Not the dojo. He wants to meet us at some parking lot." Aisha explained and Andrew sarcastically nodded his head. "Suspicious." He muttered to himself more than anything. "Both of you just be ready by 4:40."

Aisha squealed again, and Andrew smiled this time, glad he could make the girl happy. "Thank you, Andy! You're a lifesaver!" Aisha saved, quickly saying her goodbyes that Andrew returned.

When the phone call ended, Andrew shoved his phone back into his pocket and locked eyes with Anthony, who was holding ten video games now.

The plastic boxes were stacked in his arms all the way up to the edge of his chin. The younger boy struggled to smirk at Andrew, the video games fighting against him.

"Hot date planned?" Anthony snarked and Andrew rolled his eyes, walking toward his younger cousin and taking half of the video games out of his hands.

"Nope. No date. Even if it was one, you are not getting the details." Andrew said and Anthony rolled his eyes.

Andrew ignored him though, looking down the video games he and Anthony were holding. "Now, which video games do you want?"

...

Andrew got the okay for Amanda when he and Anthony got home from the mall on if he could use the car the next day. He told her it was to hang out with Aisha, since he wasn't sure how the woman would react if he told her he'd be driving her daughter's ex boyfriend to karate.

In Andrew's eyes, he wasn't lying, only withholding the truth.

Andrew woke up at 4:30 in the morning and never in his entire life has he been more grateful to be jet lagged because it only felt like 7:30 for him.

He threw on any clothes he could get his hands on since he was planning on just coming home after driving the others to karate. No one was awake yet for Andrew to say bye to so he just grabbed the keys Amanda said he could use and headed to the garage.

Andrew loved driving. It didn't matter if he was only driving himself out other people too, but Andrew loved being behind the wheel.

His fingers drummed to the Mac Miller song playing in the car as he drove.

When he pulled up to Hawks house, Andrew had to hold back a gasp at the sight. The place was huge. Not as big as Daniel and Amanda's, but it still made him stop and stare.

After a few seconds of just gawking at the sight, he quickly texted Hawk that he was outside.

The text had barely been delivered for 15 seconds before the front door to Hawks home swung open and the boy tiredly came out.

He yawned about three times before he even reached the car and as he climbed into the passenger seat, Andrew gave him an uncomfortable but sweet smile. "Good morning." He muttered, ready to dread the next ten-ish minutes to Aisha's.

Hawk grumbled at Andrew's greeting, putting on his seatbelt. Andrew just stared at him awkwardly before clearing his throat. "Or not." He muttered again under his breath, but Hawk heard him.

Just before Andrew was about to drive away, he hesitated. His eyes moved to his phone playing music and he sighed. Pressing his lips together, Andrew grabbed his phone, opened spotify, and handed Hawk the phone.

"Will the aux make you feel better?" He asked. If Andrew was stuck in this car with a boy he hardly knew, he would like it if the boy at least pretended to enjoy his company.

Hawk looked back and forth between Andrew and his phone before he grabbed the device. Their fingers brushed as Hawk grabbed the phone and Andrew liked the tingly feeling that stayed on his hands after Hawks fingers left.

"Thanks. For the aux and for the ride." Hawk muttered, giving Andrew a small smile. He wasn't used to being nice to people right off the bat; not as Hawk, anyway. But still, Hawk felt like he had to be nice to Andrew. The boy was giving him a ride when he didn't need to plus, Hawk could see parts of Andrew where if he was still going by Eli, he'd want to be his friend.

Andrew shrugged, turning back to face front as he started to drive. "I would've been up anyway. At least now I'm doing something with my morning and I'm not just hanging out with a 12 year old all week." Andrew shrugged out, rubbing his eyes tiredly.

"Aisha said it was always just you, her and Sam all the time." Hawk said, not wanting the conversation to end. Why didn't he want this conversation to end? Maybe he just didn't want to get stuck in some awkward silence.

Andrew sighed, shrugging his shoulders as his fingers started to drum against the steering wheel to the song playing. "Yeah, well it's kinda hard to get to know people when you were forced to be glued by your cousins side."

He looked to Hawk for a second as he pulled up to a red light. "At least this summer I get to have done more freedom. Like how I'm driving you today." Andrew gave Hawk a dopey smile, trying to get the boy to knock down a couple of walls so he wasn't so tense in the car.

When Hawk let out a small chuckle and dropped his head, Andrew's smile doubled and he turned back to the road.

As he started to drive again, he could feel Hawk's eyes on him but he didn't question it. After a couple seconds, Hawk finally spoke. "Well, what are you doing Saturday?"

Andrew's heart stopped. Was Hawk asking him out? There was no way. He just met this guy.

Andrew tried to play it cool, sarcastically squinting his eyes. "Um... Let me think. I just have so many plans with so many people I know." He hummed, his words getting louder to emphasize his sarcasm.

He looked to Hawk just as the boy snickered and rolled his eyes. "I was asking because a couple of us were gonna head to the beach and I thought since you don't know anybody, you can come and make a little... I don't know... friend group." Hawk suggested, his mouth moving before his mind.

Why on Earth was he inviting Andrew to the beach? He just met the guy!

Andrew's eyebrows raised, and his shoulders relaxed realizing it was a group thing he was getting invited to. He turned to Hawk for just a second before he looked back to the road. "Really?" He asked and Hawk shrugged, looking to the road.

"I know we just met, but you seem cool and I think you'd hit it off with Moon and my boy, Demetri." Hawk explained. He quickly turned back to Andrew and looked at the boy through his eyebrows from how his head was dipped. "Moon's my girlfriend by the way."

Andrew chuckled, turning to Hawk. "You think I'm cool?" He asked and when Hawk nodded, Andrew squinted. "Did you hear Aisha and I talking about how I went to musical theater camp?" He asked, pointing behind him even though he wasn't too sure if the convenient store was in that direction.

Hawk shrugged, looking away from Andrew. "Yeah, but we all have our one weird nerdy thing. Yours is musical theater." He said as if it were nothing.

Andrew squinted, pressing his lips together to hide a smile. His eyes moved to Hawk and his smile finally appeared, but turned into a smirk. "Okay, what's yours then?" He asked, a taunting tone in his voice.

Hawk's eyes moved away from Andrew, suddenly hating that he was the one to keep this conversation going. His hand went up to his eye, purposefully covering his face from Andrew as he answered. "Doctor Who."

Andrew snapped his head to Hawk, his jaw dropped as he laughed. "Dude! That's like nerd jackpot!" Andrew turned back to the road and shook his head. "If you like Doctor Who, you have to like at least Harry Potter, Star Wars, or Star Trek too."

When Hawk didn't answer, Andrew turned back to the boy. Hawk's neck and face were red and his eyes stayed glued ahead of him.

Slowly, Andrew started to smile. "Oh my God. You like all of them." He whispered, laughter coming out with his words.

Hawk's jaw clenched and he finally turned to face Andrew. The Murphy boys face fell at the glare on Hawk's face and he nervously gulped. "Tell a soul, and you're dead."

Andrew stared at Hawk for a few seconds, frozen just a few inches away from Hawk. After a moment,Andrew cleared his throat and looked back to the road. "Okay, Hawk." He huffed before he squinted to himself.

He quickly turned back to Hawk. "Also, no offense but you really chose Hawk as a nickname?"

"I didn't choose Hawk!" Hawk yelled back, turning to face Andrew completely to defend himself. Andrew's eyebrows shot up and he turned to look at Hawk, but kept his head facing the road. "Are you telling me your legal name is Hawk?"

"What? No!" Hawk yelled, his entire fae scrunched in disbelief. What this dude serious? "I didn't choose to have Hawk as a nickname." He clarified, watching as Andrew nodded as if it were nothing.

Hawk stared at Andrew for a second, his eyebrows creasing together, but when Andrew turned back to face him, Hawk quickly looked away.

"Then what is your name?" Andrew asked. Hawk scoffed out a laugh almost immediately. He leaned back in the seat, getting more comfortable as his arms crossed. "You'll never find out." He snickered out, turning to Andrew just as Andrew looked back to the road.

Andrew smirked, shrugging his shoulders. "Doubt it. You'll tell me eventually. Or I'll just find out." He turned back to Hawk as he slowly pulled up to Aisha's house. "I have my ways." He taunted, a small smile on his face.

Hawk rolled his eyes, struggling to hold back a smile as he pulled his phone out of his pocket. "Yeah, whatever. Let me add you to that group chat Moon made about the beach." He said just as the car came to a stop.

Andrew put the car in park and leaned back in his seat, nodding his head to Hawk's phone. "Can you also text Aisha and tell her we're here? You guys need to be at karate in ten and it's a bit of a drive."

...

After Aisha got into the car, the drive consisted mostly of Aisha and Hawk fighting over while he was in the passenger seat while Aisha was stuck in the back.

Hawk said that since he was picked up first, he got the front.

Aisha said since Andrew was her friend, she should've gotten the front.

When they pulled up to the parking lot Cobra Kai was meeting at today, Andrew was grateful. He didn't think he could last another minute hearing the two of them bicker.

"We're here!" Andrew yelled, making sure to brake as aggressively as he could to shut the two up. Hawk looked down at his phone and his eyes almost popped out of his head when he saw the time. "Shit! We have two minutes!" He yelled before he looked back at Aisha, throwing his gym bag over his shoulder. "We gotta go."

As he and Aisha scrambled out of Andrew's car, Aisha looked back at the driver. "Do you want to come with us? Check out some badass karate?" She asked with a hopeful smile.

Andrew frowned, ready to decline Aisha's offer, but before he could, Aisha brought her hands up and together. "Pleaseeeeee?" She asked, resting her conjoined hands under her chin in hopes that her begging would work.

After about five seconds of hearing Aisha's drag along to plea, Andrew shut his eyes and groaned. "Fine. Fine!" He said, the second "fine" shutting Aisha up. A big smile grew on the girls face and she jumped and slapped Hawk's arm in excitement. "Yes!" She cheered.

As Andrew got out of the car, Hawk quickly left Aisha's side to follow after him, not wanting to get repeatedly punched in the arm. When he reached Andrew, he could hear Aisha right on his tail.

Hawk wrapped an arm around Andrew's shoulder and leaned toward his ear as they got closer to the students and two men, who Andrew figured were their senseis.

"Hey, um... don't bring up your family to our sensei." Hawk warned just as Aisha got to the other side of Andrew.

Andrew's eyebrows furrowed. He looked back and forth between the two teens he was sandwiched in between with a confused look. "Why?" He asked.

Aisha sighed. A full explanation could take ages, which was time they didn't have.

"He kinda has a forty year rivalry with your uncle." Aisha cringed. Andrew snapped his head back to the girl, not believing her.

"You're kidding." He said and Aisha frowned, shaking her head. "I wish I was."

...

When Andrew said yes to going to karate with Aisha and Hawk, he expected to do... well, karate.

He did not expect to be standing around a wheelbarrow with Aisha, Hawk and Miguel and make cement.

"Don't add too much water!" The sensei, Andrew learned was named Johnny, yelled as he walked through the groups of kids. Andrew turned to see where the man was and he let out a small gasp when eh saw that Johnny was coming right toward him.

Andrew quickly turned back around and kept his head down, but Johnny noticed the boys reaction and thought it was very suspicious especially since he had never seen Andrew in classes before.

When Johnny got to the groups wheelbarrow, he eyed Andrew.

"Who are you?" He asked and Andrew nervously raised his head to look at the man. Before he could speak, Aisha stepped in, putting a hand on Andrew's shoulder. "This is Andrew, he drove us here today." She explained and now, Johnny moved his attention to Aisha.

"So why is he still here? Is he paying?" Johnny asked Aisha and Andrew looked at Aisha through his eyebrows since his head was low again. "I have to pay?" Andrew whisper yelled, but Aisha ignored him, keeping her attention on her sensei.

"He's just checking out classes to see if he wants to join. If he decides to stay my dad will cover it." Aisha explained and Andrew just squinted at her.

Keeping his eyes on the girl, Andrew leaned toward Hawk. "Did I say all of that?" He whispered, but instead of getting a responds, Hawk elbowed Andrew in his side.

A loud car horn stopped the conversation. They all turned their heads and watched as a cement truck pulled into the lot.

Johnny immediately left the group of teens, running to greet the driver as he climbed out of the truck. When the driver handed Johnny the keys to the truck, Andrew turned to Aisha, pointing an accusing finger at her. "If I die, I'm blaming you."

Before Aisha could defend herself, Johnny yelled from the truck. "Gather around!"

Once all of the teens were crowded around him, Kreese, and the truck, Johnny started to walk up and down the line of students. "You think winning the All Valley gives you the right to goof off? Well, I got news for you. Winning one championship doesn't mean squat! A true champion never stops training! You gotta keep moving forward or else you'll get stuck where you are."

He stopped walking and gestured the truck. "Just like the cement in this truck. If that cement doesn't start turning, the cement inside will harden and get stuck. Is that what you want to happen to you?"

"No, Sensei!" The students around Andrew screamed.

Andrew squinted at the man's analogy. There was no way this man only brought a cement truck to practice for that speech.

Just then, Johnny finally showed the importance of the truck. He nodded his head, grabbing ahold of the ladder that would lead inside, and swung it down. "Good. Then climb up, get inside, and make it spin."

Andrew's jaw fell and a small gasp left his lips. "This is so illegal." He whispered to Hawk beside him. Hawk stayed quiet though, but on the other side of Andrew, Aisha took a small step forward.

"Sensei, we're sorry for messing around."

Johnny ignored the girls words, pointing inside the truck. "Get in!"

From the other side of Hawk, Miguel started to shake his head. "Sensei, this seems dangerous. I mean, the fumes alone–"

"Quiet!" Kreese yelled, interrupting Miguel.

Andrew jumped at the man's yell. From the rundown Aisha, Miguel, and Hawk gave him earlier in the practice, Kreese was just a spectator yet in Andrew's eyes, this guy was definitely scarier than Johnny.

"This man led you to the mountain top and now you question him?" Kreese yelled, pointing at Johnny behind him before pointing to the students in disgrace. "Look at all of you. I can't believe this pathetic pack of pussies competed in the All Valley. And let alone, won! It's a miracle. And who's responsible for the miracle? Johnny Lawrence. The best student in the history of Cobra Kai."

Kreese moved to point to himself, his chin raising in pride. "My student." He finished and Andrew heard Hawk gasp in amazement from beside him.

"You were Sensei's sensei?" He asked and Kreese smiled at the question.

"You better believe it, kid. And I tell you I've never trained a tougher student in my whole life. And if you know what's good for you, you better listen to every goddamn word he says."

No one spoke for a few seconds, really letting Kreese's words sink in. Andrew looked around the students he was surrounded by. He definitely wasn't gonna go in there. He wasn't even a student. But that didn't mean he was interested in seeing who would go in.

When Miguel stepped up, Andrew wasn't too surprised. Miguel seemed very brave and Andrew noticed Miguel already acted as the leader in not only his friend group, but in Cobra Kai too.

"I'll do it, Sensei." Miguel said, making Johnny and Kreese smile.

"There we go!" Kreese hummed happily, watching with a smile as Miguel's asked toward the ladder.

Hawk was about to follow Miguel, but his body halted. His eyes jumped to Andrew beside him and without much of a thought, Hawk grabbed Andrew's hand and started to tug him toward the truck.

"Dude! What are you doing?" Andrew said quite loud, hoping Aisha would notice and pull him back with her, but Aisha didn't move an inch.

Hawk sighed, looking back at Andrew. "Come on. This'll be fun." Hawk said, climbing in and leaving Andrew at the edge of the ladder.

When Hawk climbed into the truck, he tried his hardest not to show any negative reaction, not wanting to scare Andrew out of coming in.

He turned back to Andrew, whose feet were glued in place. Hawk stuck his hand out, his eyebrows raising expectantly. "Come on, Andy." Hawk said, the nickname he's heard Aisha use since Hawk met him slipping out. But he didn't hate the sound of it.

Andrew stared up at Hawk waiting for him. Maybe it was because he wanted to impress his new friends or maybe it was because Hawk used his nickname, but Andrew groaned in defeat, reaching out and grabbing Hawks hand to help him inside the truck.

Neither boys thought much about it, but their hands fit pretty perfectly with one another and a small spark etched between the two when their hands touched but Andrew immediately blamed it on some type of static electricity he must've caused.

When Andrew stepped inside the truck, he only thought about how horrible the feeling of the cement seeping into his shoes, socks, and pants felt.

"This is weird..." He cringed, frowning at the sloshing noise his pants made as he walked further into the truck.

Andrew moved to point at Hawk, but his movement faltered when he saw he was still holding hands with Hawk. Andrew pulled his hand out of Hawks grasp and pointed at him. "I can't believe I'm letting you do this."

Two more boys followed in after Andrew and after the second boy climbed in, Johnny head appeared in the hole of the exit. "Let's go! Move it!" He yelled.

The five boys groaned to themselves and all walked toward the edge of the wall. Miguel, Hawk, Andrew, and the two other boys pressed their hands against the wall of the truck, trying their hardest to get it to start spinning.

"Come on!" Miguel yelled as Andrew's jaw clenched, trying to muster up all of his strength to get the truck moving.

After a couple of dreadful seconds that felt like minutes, the truck started to move.

The five boys all let out loud laughs as they started to walk after, the truck spinning faster by the second. "Holy shit!" Andrew laughed out, looking to Hawk next to him, who had a big smile on his face. "We're moving!"

"Keep pushing! All together!" Johnny yelled from outside of the truck.

As the truck spun faster, Andrew felt it become hard to not slip in the cement beneath him. With one step, Andrew's foot slid and he started to follow into the cement.

Just as his knees hit the wet cement, Hawk stopped spinning the truck to grab Andrew's arm, catching him before he could fall any more.

"I got you!" Hawk yelled, pulling Andrew back up before he turned back to the wall. "Let's go!"

...

Johnny made every kid go into the truck at least once. After everyone had gone, Johnny lined them all up and started to wash them with a hose.

"You should all be proud of yourselves! I know I'm proud! Your parents would be proud, too, if you told them what we did here today, which we won't." Johnny said and Andrew snickered. His mom and dad would probably never find out, but god forbid even a spec of cement was left on Andrew when he went back to his uncles...

"You pushed forward like champions. Never stoping. Never being satisfied. Never giving up." Johnny explained as Andrew looked down to pick off the small spots of cement the hose couldn't get off.

"And if you keep pushing and keep moving forward, you're gonna go to places you never even dreamed of." Johnny said with a smile.

Andrew looked up at that, his eyes focused on the man. He had to admit, as dangerous and stupid as it was, Andrew had fun at Cobra Kai.

As Johnny went back to hiding students down, Andrew pursed his lips, and leaned toward Aisha beside him. "This actually wasn't too bad."
