" Every sec that we spent
Lots of mess stuck up in my head
Gets me so distracted and confused
Baby, I think I've lost my mind
Feels like you crashed into my life
I keep on losin' track of time
I'm so messed up, yeah "
- ( I can't ) Forget about you , R5
Evan let the fourth letter fall to the ground , leaning against the bare wall as he rested his head on it.
His phone vibrated continuously during the the fifteen minutes he was here with numerous missed calls from his mom and Cora and a message .
The message read ,
"Evan , are you okay? You weren't here the whole day . Is Tessa gone? Did she notice you? Waiting for you to reply -C "
He picked the phone up , as his fingers failed to type an understandable message . The small keypad disappeared from his eyesight until all that he saw was the pool of letters all around him.
Evan wasn't realizing that he loved Tessa or that he wanted to get back with her . He felt guilty , lonely and desperate to apologize to the suffering female .
His mental state was deteriorated as if his soul had been shot hundreds of times mercilessly , only that these bullets were welcome guests.
Repeated blinking followed as his eyes adjusted to the dimmer background . The atmosphere of evening was much more jolly and a lot more lively .
Evan glanced at his surroundings again - her room - the memories associated with it bought a smile to his face.
The faces of their young selves playing make-believe was visible as if imprinted on these walls.
He touched the walls again , his fingers tracing the small cracks on it as realization dawned on him - the once present electrical surge was gone .
The figment of his imagination disappearing would have been normal to a stranger but to him, it meant something else. Something a lot more significant .
The house was accepting him . He no longer felt like a stranger but Tessa's best friend - the one friend who , six years ago , was here every other day.
Acceptance was a renewed feeling to him - one that he always wanted.
Acceptance by the high-schoolers , acceptance of who he was by his friends , acceptance of his identity and his quirks by his girlfriend.
Yet, he pondered , as the conclusion was that the only true acceptance he got was by Tessa.
Acceptance following her nod to leave her for Cora.
Here he was , again, the second time ,the acceptance by her to invade her memories.
His train of thought was broken by laughter of young kids as his focus now turned to the open window.
Evan was suddenly aware of the prickling cold air that his body felt while his mind was still numb .
He stumbled to his feet , making his way to the window in strides smaller than normal . He looked outside, a dark looming figure as strangers described him , to the park just across her house.
His eyesight was limited to the view of children playing tag and couples walking arm in arm. Turning on his heels,he went back to the same corner , collecting the letters as he placed them back in their original place - the shoebox .
Evan simply took the shoebox and exited the room , wanting to be in his home as soon as possible.
He missed the embrace of his mom dearly for maybe , it could help him heal wounds that he never knew he had. He missed the assuring hug of Cora and her smile.
Surprisingly , he missed Tessa's talkativeness in hopes that anyone could have numbed his heart just as his mind.
The only thought he had in his mind was " Maybe I failed to understand Tess properly , after all "
And the last message that he sent to Cora was,
"She didn't notice me. I am alright.I miss you .I miss hugging you "He sent his genuine thoughts , debating whether to promise never to leave her alone as snippets of Tessa's last letter flash in front of his eyes.
