Thoughts:
So first off, I'm enjoying your story. You are doing a good job with War is a Game. Your characters are all unique and I'm loving their interaction with one another and the settling around them. The world you created is one that intrigues me. I saw zero to almost none errors, though I could be wrong. I found myself looking forward to the next chapter.
This is a story that occurs during World War two. It's fiction and it follows Anna, a fourteen year old girl, and her friends while they are at a boarding school. (I didn't quite understand why the parents were dropping their children off at the school completely, other than the fact that they are preparing for the coming war.) But so far, the first twelve chapters is just introducing the characters that will be involved in the plot.
My favorite character was Anna, but I related more to Rosamond. Reading Anna chapters was a joy to read. She's such an interesting, dun character. I like that she's adventurous, daring, and friendly. I'm assuming something either bad happened to her mother or she never knew her mother which is why she doesn't want to talk about her….unless I missed something in the second chapter. Anyway, she made the story for me.
Rosamond is the average needy, goody-to-shoe with a secret desire for adventure. I can relate. Anyway I like that Anna can bring the daring side of her out. I believe she is capable of more than what she leads on. I loved the scene with Rosamond and Edward when she fell on their way back to the school. That was cute and reminded me of Ron and Hemonica from Harry Potter. At least, that's how I see their relationship.
Edward, because spelling his real name is a little hard for me and he's in hiding, was simply adorable. I feel like he will be a great addition to the group. I like that he's the quiet type. I can understand as he's French and is probably on the run.
Then there's Erik. I like that Anna can see right through him and that sort of annoys him. I don't trust Erik at all. Sure he might be the charming guy in the story, but I just don't like him much. He's too cocky. Not to mention he's seventeen and making a fourteen year old his target to gather information.
Let's talk about Ms. Addicott! I didn't think there was much to the woman. But boy was I in for a surprise. I thought she was going to be the mean teacher and archenemy to Anna, but turns out, there's more to her than meets the eye. I can't believe she basically told Anna and Mondy to search the boy's room for information. I wonder what her goal is with the two girls and what she knows. I feel like she is aware of Erik being a German and his little mission, but she needs proof.
The title War is a Game does seem to fit the story so far. So far, the characters are the chess pieces and are currently being set into place so that a move can be made. But War is all about strategy and tactics. A mind game of sorts is at play in this story for the first twelve chapters.
The cover is alright, but it doesn't quite fit. I can see that the woman in the picture is a woman not a little girl. It gave me the impression of an adult being the protagonist. Other than that the cover is fine. As for the blurb, I liked the first half, but the second and third could use some work. You have four povs in your story, but your blurb doesn't reflect that. It reflects that the story is about two people, not four. I suggest writing one that incorporates the four protagonists in some way.
Overall, you have a great story going here. I can see how much work you are putting into your story with the research and even keep the characters' voices unique each. There's so much I didn't comment on because I wasn't sure how to put my thoughts into words, but just know that this is a pretty polished story. I can't wait to read more of it. Especially to see what Anna would do next.
