The Burden of Us by MiniMoxx
Reviewer: xFall3nang3lx
I’m so happy to review another one of MiniMoxx’s book again, as I really enjoyed reading her book Perfectly Unexpected.
Cover:
I like that the cover was a somewhat way of showing Ella’s fate of marrying Dean which is a prediction of her future. The simplicity of the cover without any over the top details just makes it more beautiful. I also really like the title name “The Burden of Us” it has such a nice ring to it and it just sounds really good.
Description:
I think the line “Ella Webb was never destined to be free” shouldn’t have been connected with the “featured by” thing and instead should’ve been joined on to your second paragraph, it should be at the beginning before “When she turned sixteen”, other than that you did a good job with the blurb, it’s so interesting that it makes me wanna instantly read what’s inside and find out more about the story.
Storyline:
The gist of the story is that Ella and Dean are arranged to wed by their parents in exchange for Ella’s family wealthy lifestyle, and Ella doesn’t want it to happen whereas Dean has accepted it and even has small feelings for her, Ella believes that there is more to why she and Dean are forced to get married and she wants to find out what it is. A little thing I really like is the fact that you also change the time to eh past makes it so much more interesting as it reveals more information about current events so we would get more of a idea/understanding of why it’s happening, so I can’t wait to find out more about why this marriage contract even took place.
Characters:
In my opinion, I think Ella’s a pretty selfless girl, even though she absolutely doesn’t want to get married to Dean, she still thinks about how if she refuses how it would affect her parents, I feel as though Ella has never really experienced what freedom is like seeing as most of her life has been decided by her and Dean’s parents, so I’m betting that she really craves for it. Even though we don’t really hear much about Dean in the first few chapters, it’s clear that he play a major role in this book as he is the “soon to be husband” of the main character, one little characteristic I noticed about him is that he’s respectful to Ella by not pressuring her to have to be romantic with him or to do the traditional way of having kids, it’s clear that he cares about her.
Grammar/Spelling:
In the chapters I’ve read, I didn’t find any mistakes at all, to be honest with you I was so invested in the story that I actually forgot to check for any grammatical problems so then I had to reread the book again, although I didn’t actually mind, but yeah there weren’t any mistakes at all.
Engagement of the reader:
I’ll tell you this, this story is honestly really good, the plot is so interesting that I just kept on wanting to read more and more, I felt such sympathy for Ella because of the situation she’s in, I can only hope that things get better for her further on in the story.
