There was a time Yrsa was happy, but she scarcely remembered it now. She couldn't recall what her parents looked like; all she had was a memory of a whisper of a feeling. Her brother, Eret, used to tell her they were brave adventurers. "Just like us, " he would say. Yrsa believed it for a time—until Drago Bludvist crushed all of the young girls' beliefs.

Eret was twelve and Yrsa was seven when Drago's men found them. He took the siblings in, gave them food and shelter. In exchange, they were forever in his debt—a life of servitude. From then on, dragon hunting was all the pair knew. Their world became kill or be killed in the blink of an eye.

There were no excuses with Drago. Yrsa was the youngest of his crew, but the expectations were no lower. Every slip-up, every misstep, there would be a punishment. But that was the price to pay for her life and the life of her brother.

For thirteen years, Yrsa caught dragons for Drago's army alongside her brother. They got good, really good. But one night, they were ambushed. A dragon rider blew their base to splinters with a dragon powerful enough to breathe glaciers. And then they showed up. The boy and his Night Fury.

AUTHORS NOTE

MWUAHAHAHA bet y'all didn't see this coming (you probably did). HTTYD literally raised me. This was my childhood, the movies, all of their spin offs, and the books (hint hint).

Seeing all of the new content coming out of Universal's Epic Universe and the Isle of Berk land made me revisit this beloved series and boy did the creative juices started flowing. I surprisingly never wrote a HTTYD fic of my own in the early days of this app but the reason I downloaded it in the first place was to READ HTTYD fics! And now we are here!!

When I was thinking of a plot, I knew I wanted my oc to be a dragon trapper cause that's just interesting plot devices there. But I wasn't sure if I wanted it to be a love interest for Hiccup since I love him and Astrid, but for the sake of my simping heart, I caved. Right off the gate I will let you know that Hiccup and Astrid did have a fling when they were younger but as of the second movie, it didn't work out between them but they are still very good friends. No home wrecking in this house!

With Yrsa being a dragon trapper it felt only right to make her brother Eret. He is such a lovable big guy and I really wanted to dive into what his life might have been like with Drago before meeting Hiccup and the other dragon riders.
