Gambling leads to ruin
At this point in his life, Robin lacked nothing—wealth, luxury cars, access to the most elite services, and conversations with the top minds—the true masters of the game. He had become a powerful figure in society.
Yet, despite living in abundance, Robin never indulged in extravagance. He remained as hardworking as ever. He and Bon continued working tirelessly, even as countless other websites copied their idea. Still, their website maintained an unrivaled dominance in the industry.
Not long after, Bon secretly held a wedding with his college sweetheart. Naturally, Robin was there to celebrate with them.
During the ceremony, Bon didn't forget to tease Robin:
"You should hurry up and get married too! Seeing you all alone like this makes me worried. Let me ask my wife to introduce you to a few girls!"
Bon patted Robin's shoulder playfully while chuckling. Robin pushed his hand away and muttered under his breath:
"Can you stop? I'm still looking for the right person..."
"Don't tell me you're still searching for that orange-haired girl? ... Give it up... If you haven't found her by now, you never will."
Bon's words were meant to shatter any lingering hope.
Robin remained silent. Fortunately, Bon's wife called him away to greet guests, or else he would have gone on nagging forever.
Robin knew waiting for someone like that was meaningless, especially when he was surrounded by so many amazing people.
That night, he returned home and threw himself into work, using it as a distraction from everything.
Everything seemed like it would continue this way—until the creator of the game introduced something that both the rich and the poor could not resist: gambling.
At first, Robin turned to gambling as a form of entertainment, a way to escape his loneliness. It satisfied him in a way no other pleasure could. He wasn't even sure when he had gotten hooked. It all started when he accompanied a business partner to a casino. To his surprise, he kept winning round after round, feeling a rush of excitement. He discovered a place where he could showcase his intelligence, his ability to predict outcomes. The sound of dice rolling was like a hypnotic call, luring him in deeper.
Robin poured an unimaginable amount of money into gambling. As soon as he finished work, he would rush to the casino. Winning or losing didn't matter—what mattered was the thrill. His rate of spending quickly outpaced his earnings.
Bon soon noticed something was off. Robin's mind was no longer focused on work, and it was starting to drag the company down. One day, Bon stormed into Robin's office, slamming a stack of reports onto his desk.
"What the hell is this, Robin?!"
"What do you mean, 'what'?"
"A client complained about your attitude yesterday. They don't trust us with their project anymore and have taken their business elsewhere! Look at the mess you've caused!"
"I don't care. Get out of my office."
"What the hell is wrong with you?! Have you lost interest in this company?"
"Just shut up. I want to be alone."
Bon, furious, pointed a finger at Robin:
"Get your act together! Everything in this world can be replaced. If you don't wake up, everything we built will crumble!"
Robin ignored him completely. He began cutting off all contact with Bon—refusing to answer his calls, skipping out on their usual dinners, even refusing to show up at Bon's birthday party.
The company started declining visibly. With the two pillars of the business at odds—one struggling alone, the other neglecting his responsibilities—the empire they had built was on shaky ground.
At this point, James, now a key member of the company, realized they couldn't let things go on like this. He decided to have someone follow Robin to uncover the real reason behind his downfall.
It didn't take long for James to find out the truth. He immediately reported back to Bon:
"I had someone investigate Robin's situation, and just as I suspected..."
"Just as you suspected what?"
"He's in trouble. He spends all his time at the casino."
"The casino? Are you sure? Robin never had a habit of gambling before."
"I had him followed. Gambling is a bottomless pit. If you let him continue, he might end up sinking the entire company into it."
Hearing this, Bon buried his face in his hands.
"I really don't understand what's going through his head... He's never been like this before!"
While Bon and James were struggling to find a way to pull Robin back, he was sinking even deeper.
That night was particularly unlucky. He had already lost more than ten rounds in a row, yet he kept doubling down, refusing to stop until he won.
"Just let me win... just one round... that's all I ask!"
