Sapphire's Belief
Harry decided to apply for the IT staff position without knowing that it was Robin and Bon's corporation.
With his experience, his CV easily passed the initial screening—whether by chance or by design—because Robin and Bon's corporation was notoriously strict in every stage of hiring, especially in CV filtering. Naturally, as planned, he made it to the next round—the competency test.
On the scheduled day, he arrived for the test, dressed more properly than usual. Perhaps, he had grown more determined.
But this man was no ordinary candidate. His test scores were impressive, making Robin acknowledge that there must have been a reason why Sapphire had chosen to marry him. Still, according to the plan, whether he passed or not, Robin would arrange for him to be hired.
He quickly advanced to the final round—the direct interview. This time, he was quite pleased with himself, confident in his abilities. He anxiously waited for his number to be called.
However, his confidence was shattered the moment he stepped into the interview room. Getting into a major corporation was not easy. Sitting before him were seven interviewers, but what made him nearly stumble was the sight of a face he could never forget—Robin.
The HR staff invited him inside to begin the interview promptly, as many other candidates were still waiting. One by one, the interviewers asked him questions. During the session, Robin discovered his name was Harry. Every time he answered a question, he would glance at Robin, but Robin never spoke a word to him.
As the interview concluded, Harry gave Robin a bewildered look, as if to ask why Robin hadn't tried to make things difficult for him.
Robin merely smirked with a look of disdain, making Harry furious. Without even bothering to say goodbye, he stormed out, ripped off his tie, and drove his old, battered car home with a terrifying expression.
Upon arriving home, he saw Sapphire cleaning up the shop. Without warning, he grabbed her arm and delivered a resounding slap, leaving her too stunned to react.
He yelled, "Do you know who I met today?!"
Sapphire clutched her face and glared at him.
"You've lost your mind..."
"That's right! I've gone mad! I fell right into your trap... You deliberately spread those flyers outside the shop so I'd go there for an interview. But do you know who interviewed me?! The bastard who broke my wrist at the casino to protect you!!!"
"Who... who are you talking about? You mean Robin?!"
"Still don't know?! Or are you pretending not to know?! He didn't even ask me a single question... just smirked at me, like I was some clown performing for him!!!"
"What does that have to do with me? You're insane!"
"If you weren't fooling around with him, I wouldn't have been humiliated like that today!!!"
"I haven't even spoken to him more than three times! What makes you think I'm fooling around?!"
"He watches you every day! You think I don't see it?! You keep demanding a divorce because of him, don't you, you wretched woman?!"
Then, he turned violent, slapping her again and hitting her. Unable to bear it any longer, Sapphire fled the house in desperation, ignoring his enraged shouting.
She sat down in the middle of the street and sobbed like a child, terrified of returning to that house.
The next day, Robin stopped by the restaurant as usual. When he called for his order, he saw Sapphire walk out—her body covered in bruises, her face swollen with dark purple marks. Robin trembled but tried to suppress his emotions. Looking at her, he asked:
"What... what happened to you?"
Sapphire hesitated, avoiding his gaze, and replied, "I... I'm fine..."
Robin clenched his fists, barely restraining the rage boiling inside him.
"Did... he hit you again?"
Sapphire held back her tears and wiped them away with her hand. She turned to face him—her eyes and lips bruised.
"You see for yourself... I'm exhausted... Why do you keep coming here? Every time he sees you, he loses his mind... Please, just stop coming... I don't want to live like this anymore."
Robin placed both hands on her shoulders.
"What you need to do now is leave him, not endure this any longer."
"What can I do? Sue him?"
"What else are you planning to do? He's done this to you, and you still won't leave him?"
Sapphire wiped away the tears running down her cheeks and whispered:
"I... I just want to divorce him peacefully... I don't want to take legal action."
"Why?" Robin frowned.
"I have my reasons... You wouldn't understand."
Robin looked at her, running a hand through his hair in frustration. How could she be like this? How could she endure such suffering?
After standing there deep in thought for a long while, he watched as Sapphire returned to the kitchen. Then, he followed her in and said:
"I'll help you. Do you trust me?"
"Trust you?"
"Yes."
"I... I..."
At that moment, Sapphire's mind was in turmoil. She didn't know what to do anymore. If she continued like this, her life would be nothing but darkness. It would be better to struggle and find a way out rather than stay trapped.
"I... I... Are you... Are you really going to help me?"
Her eyes, filled with hopelessness, met his—the very eyes he longed to see come alive with strength once more.
