Chapter Seven
Jason's life had just gotten so much more complicated in the span of 90 minutes.
Apparently, in Tim's universe, Jason died. Which caused Bruce to go crazy and Tim to become the 3rd Robin.
And then Jason came back to life.
What the actual hell?
So, in theory, if Bruce hadn't rescued him and he hadn't lived, then the Tim Drake of this universe would still be alive and kicking?
That's... not a fun thought.
It seemed that Steph was obviously not asking the questions she wanted to.
Why?
No idea. But she wasn't. She was hesitating.
Steph didn't hesitate often.
Of course, she was also from another Universe, so what did he know?
Certainly not anything about his sisters. if Steph and Babs, the two girls who'd never hurt him, had hidden something like this?
What else were they hiding?
And why didn't they trust him with it?
...
Bruce was beyond worried. He was on the verge of having a full-blown breakdown. Both of his sons had gone radio silent, along with the mountain going into lockdown. And nobody had known until an hour and a half later.
An hour and a half that could have caused something terrible to happen.
None of the team was answering their comms, Oracle and Batgirl and Nightwing and Robin were all offline.
The last time something like that had happened...
No! He couldn't think about that now. No, he had to get to the mountain. To the team.
To his children.
...
Tim was different. Changed.
He was no longer the sweet and innocent teen with the computer. The teen that looked at the world with an undying hope for the future. The teen that she knew would never hurt her.
He was different.
It wasn't a bad different. At least, she didn't think it was.
He could still make her heart pound when when he laughed. Could still send shivers down her spine when he looked at her with those intelligent blue eyes that she knew would have all the answers to her questions. Still could fill her blood with warmth with a single touch.
She wondered if kissing him would still cause love and happiness to flare inside of her. It probably would.
She watched as he let out a laugh at one of Bart's jokes.
It definitely would.
But that didn't change the fact that he was different.
Because he was.
Colder, darker, even more intelligent then before. Stronger, too.
And Steph might've been the only one to notice.
Because she was the only one that knew him. Knew him before whatever changed him happened.
She wanted to ask him what had happened. What had changed him. But she knew that that wasn't a discussion for now. In front of all these people who looked like his friends but weren't. She would ask him later, when they were alone and away from prying ears.
Could she help him become that happy kid once more?
She hoped so. She'd try too.
...
"If you were really a Robin, then you should be able to take on the team." Lagaan said, arms crossed defiantly.
I'm sorry. Dick blinked, his mouth dropping open. What?
"What?" Babs asked. Thanks, love. Good to see we're on the same page here.
"We only have the word of 3 people that say this kid is who he says he is. 1 is himself, the other 2 are people who aren't very trustworthy in the first place. They just appeared out of nowhere with no explanation. They could be spies! If he was really Robin, he should prove it. The only way I'll believe him is if he can beat us all in combat."
"That doesn't seem very fair, hermano." Jaime spoke up.
"Yeah. And we don't talk about our teammates that way." Jason growled. Dick knew how conflicted he must be feeling. He was feeling the same. But he was proud that Jason would still defend the people who had hidden such a big secret from him.
Dick glanced over at where Tim and Steph were standing to see two very different expressions.
Steph's was anger. And hurt.
Tim's was... interest.
Oh Lord on high, please help him. Whatever happens next is not going to be good.
"I don't think this is a g-" Cassie started, before being cut off.
"Fine." Tim said, straightening. "If it's a fight you want, it's a fight you'll get."
Holy crapadoodles, Batman! This is going to be a very long day.
...
Barbara was actually really interested to see how this would go down.
It was obvious that Tim was a good fighter, (he'd have to be to survive this long) and incredibly intelligent.
She would not be surprised to see him win this. If he was as smart as Steph said he was, then he would obviously know that the team was an unstoppable force if they got off their high horses and worked together.
He would also know exactly what buttons to push to make them do the opposite.
She'd better get the cameras ready. This was going to be good.
...
The battle was done before it really even began. The team was at a severe disadvantage, with them not knowing anything about how Tim fought. Steph knew some, but it had been three years since she'd last seen him fight. And three years was plenty of time for things to change.
It was child's play.
Lagaan was the first one to fight him. He had a cocky smirk on his face as he told the team to "stay back" and he's "got this".
He did not "got this"
He went down in seconds. Tim had dropped a flare bomb to the floor (inwardly grateful that he'd designed his mask to ward off things like this) and threw himself onto Lagaan, taking him down before he'd even had time to process what was happening. By the time everyone's vision had returned, Lagaan had been tied up and was hanging from the ceiling. Tim was standing below him, his arms crossed and his eyebrow raised.
"Who's next?" he asked, ignoring the string of curses that were shouted from above him.
This was going to be so much fun to watch.
M'gann began to float, her eyes glowing green as she raised her hands to her temple. "Let's see how you fight this!"
Tim gave an exasperated sigh, rolling his eyes. "Yeah. Okay. Whatever."
Everyone froze as M'gann let out a scream, clutching her head and collapsing to the floor in sobs.
"What did you do?" Conner growled, raising his fists.
Tim quirked an eyebrow. "She wanted to read my mind. I simply gave her access." turning to look at M'gann, a look of sympathy in his eyes. "I'm sorry. But, really, you should know better then to read someone's mind without preparing yourself for the consequences."
Conner let out a noise of fury, running towards Tim with raised fists. Tim ducked as Conner threw a punch, sidestepping as he kicked out with his left leg.
"You know, fighting with anger usually causes you to make mistakes." Tim commented, ducking again.
"Oh yeah? Like what?" Conner asked. Tim gave a mirthless smile. "Like leaving yourself open for attack."
He brought out a tooth pick, coated in green, and stuck it like a needle into Conner's wrist.
Conner yelped, feeling his energy drain out of him. "What the hell?"
"You know, I knew someone like you. He wasn't as angry, but he could be known to have a temper at times. You remind me of him." Tim sighed, his eyes glazing over slightly. "It's kryptonite. Just enough to take your superpowers. It'll wear off in a few hours."
He looked over at where the rest of the team was watching in shock. "Alright? Are we going to continue, or are you guys going to keep messing around?"
...
Barbara watched as Tim took the team down one by one, munching on the popcorn Bart had gotten and shouting out encouragement.
Bart was next to her, an evil grin on his face.
"Aren't you going to help them, Bart?" she asked, glancing at him. Bart shook his head with a small grin.
"Nah. They brought this upon themselves when they decided to fight Tim. The only people who stand a chance are you bats. And even then, I don't think it will work, because he knows your guy's fighting styles a lot better than you know his."
They both ooh'd in sympathy as Cassie went down hard and was wrapped in her own lasso.
Babs nodded at Bart's answer, knowing full well he was right.
The way Tim fought was like nobody she'd ever seen before. He had no style, no distinctive way of movement. He didn't utilize one technique, no. He used them all.
He did the same flips she'd seen Dick do a thousand times, the same force Jason put into his moves, the same way Steph fought to survive, and many many more. Some of the things Tim did, she recognized. Others were ones she'd never seen before.
And he switched between them all so fluidly, completely effortless.
It was as beautiful as it was terrifying.
He'd be a good addition to the team. Babs mused as she watched Tim and Steph begin to face off.
"You've gotten better." Tim grinned, flipping over Steph and dragging her to the floor. "Love the new costume, by the way."
Steph laughed as Tim nerve striked her, rendering her body unable to move. "Thanks. I've been working hard."
"Well, it definitely shows." Tim tied Steph's hands together with a small smirk before he went back to fighting, leaving only a lingering kiss to the cheek behind.
A good addition, indeed.
...
Batman quickly made his way to the training room, the rest of the Justice League with him, their footsteps silent on the cement floor. He entered the room to see the team in various stages of disarray, each of them sporting bruises. In the middle, a teen wearing a mask was facing off against Nightwing.
And he wasn't losing. Despite the splatch off blood on his forehead and the clearly broken wrist, he was fighting Nightwing into a stand off.
Batman growled as he saw the kid flip over Jason's crouched body and used it as a spring board to wrap his legs around Nightwing's neck and drag him to the ground. The father leapt forward, pushing the teen off his son and roughly onto the floor.
"B! Stop it!" Nightwing shouted as Batman held a Batarang to the kid's neck.
"Get off him!!"
...
The move Tim uses to take down Dick is the one Black Widow did when she was fighting Hammer Security in the 2nd Iron Man movie. You can watch it here: https://youtu.be/0lZYKVl49Ac at the time: 0:44-0:48
