Chapter Six

Something was wrong. Very, very, wrong.

Cass was in Hong Kong when the feeling, the very wrong feeling washed over her.

She didn't know what is was. Was this -what was it Tim had said? Intuition?- yes, intuition. Something was wrong with someone she loves.

So why isn't anyone telling her anything?

Every message, phone call, everything she could possibly think of to get into contact with her  family came back unanswered. Ignored. Disregarded.

She was on edge.

So, she got on the fastest plane to Gotham, heart heavy with confusion and fear.

What was making her feel this way?

And why did it scare her so much?

...

The Titans were all at the tower, exhausted after a long day of school and crime fighting.

Kon was sitting across from Cassie, a board game between them as Bart ran about, offering food and altogether being a chaos demon when he heard it.

Heard Tim's heart start to slow past what was normal.

Kon always kept close tabs on his friends, not to much, he didn't want to be creepy or anger some of his more... private friends (*cough cough* Tim *cough cough*) but he always was listening.

He was only one call away and they all knew it, they all knew that as long as they needed him, he would be there.

He came back front he dead, didn't he? Nothing could stop him from protecting his friends.

And he hadn't seen Tim since he died, so Kon was on edge. He'd only come back to life a week ago, and he had no clue how he was supposed to talk to Tim if the guy kept thinking he was a hallucination.

Nothing Kon or Bart did could convince their Robin, Tim, that they weren't dead. That they were back.

And so Kon was listening more closely than usual.

And now he knew that choice was right.

Because Tim's heart just slowed.

He was up and running in an instant, throwing the table the board game sat on into the air, scattering random pieces all over the room.

"Kon?" Cassie asked, also standing. "What is it? What's wrong?"

Bart was looking at him in worry, and Kon briefly acknowledged the fact that Gar and Raven had come running into the room.

"Tim's heart is stopping."

It was like the last tendril of calm had snapped when he spoke those four words that he hadn't realized he'd feared so much until he spoke them. The room burst into a flurry of movement, Kon and Bart racing out of the room, Cassie at their heels as they headed towards Gotham at inhuman speed. Raven and Gar were calling Nightwing, their hearts in their heads as they all tried to come to terms with what was happening.

Tim.

Tim was dying.

Tim was dying

Fuck.

...

Of course, it was only their luck that caused them to immediately start fighting Joker's goons upon entering the cursed city that their brother loved so much.

They tried to make it quick. They tried to move past the goons and keep going.

But this is Gotham. And she sure does love causing pain.

Because they couldn't. Because there was civilians.

And oh shit, laughing gas too.

And they all knew Tim would never forgive them for choosing him over innocent bystanders.

Would he even get the chance to never forgive?

And just like that the fight was over. The goons were knocked out, the laughing gas disappeared, the civilians were safe and Tim's heart had stopped completely.

Tim's heart stopped. Completely.

They were too late.

Kon looked over at where Bart and Cassie were standing, just behind him. He shook his head, grief taking over his heart.

Cassie screamed, "NO!!" and fell to her knees, her sobs echoing in the eerily silent night.

Bart just stood there, his face filled with co confusion as he muttered, "No. This wasn't supposed to happen. The history books never mentioned this. This isn't how Tim dies. It's wrong. Wrongwrongwrongwrongwrongyou'rewrong. He'snotdead, hecan'tbe. You're wrong."

But Kon wasn't wrong. And he was to busy drowning in the water of grief to hear his other brother. The waves were crashing over him repeatedly, mockingly, each changing the same words over and over and over again. "You were too late. You were too late. You were too late. You were too late."

He was too late to save his best friend, his brother. His Robin. Timmy.

He failed.

...

They stayed like that for a long time before the Bats reached them.

The first to get there was Batman, and he immediately growled, "No metas in Gotham."

To which Kon answered with a punch in the face.

It was sloppy, weak (for him. It probably broke the big Bat's nose) but Kon couldn't bring himself to care.

"Where WERE YOU?!?!" He shouted, this time going for a punch in the gut, only to be stopped by an escrima stick.

"Superboy? What are you doing?" Nightwing asked, glancing behind him to check on Batman. Robin had appeared as well, growling and menacingly holding his sword.

"My best friend is DEAD! Dead, because of you. Where were you?" and then, so quietly everyone had to strain their ears to hear him, Kon added, "Where was I?"

"Superboy... Kid Flash is fine. So is Cassie. They're right there." Nightwing said in a placating tone.

Bart hisses and pounced on Nightwing, his eyes glaring with an anger that Kon didn't see often.

He clawed at the older man as he tried to instill the grief he felt onto the person Tim thought of as an older brother. Family. The person who betrayed him in the worst way possible.

Kon was finding it very hard to keep his eyes from going red with heat.

"No! Not them! Robin! OUR BEST FRIEND, OUR LEADER!! The one who could do anything. The best detective, even better than BATMAN!!"

A sneer crossed over the new Robin's face. "The boy you speak of is no longer Robin. I am. And Red Robin is certainly not better than father. It would be wise of you to not speak in such ways."

Kon was very, very, angry. And someone was going to pay for it.

"Fuck off!! You'll never be our Robin!! You won't even come close! Tim was the best damn Robin there ever was." well there goes the 'no names' rule. Whoops. "He loved all of you with his entire being, protected you before you even knew his name! And how do you repay him? With pain. So much pain."

A dark look crossed over the three meta's faces as Kon said his next words. "And you're lucky I don't kill you for it."

And then a familiar noise came over the Bat's earpieces.

"Gang, search for Red Robin. He's gone radio silent." Oracle ordered. "And be fast. I just got a message from the Teen Titans that Superboy, Wondergirl, and Kid Flash were on their way. They think Red is dying."

Nightwing froze as Batman answered. "Received. The three metas are already here. We'll begin a search party as soon as they're gone."

Cassie growled as Bart cracked his knuckles and Kon's heat vision flared up. But, it seemed Oracle was on their side, because she stopped Batman in his tracks.

"No. Take them with you. And Batman, if he's dead, you're going to lose some major players in your game."

And everyone knows you don't disobey Oracle. Not even Batman did that.

And so they began the search, this time, Kon's superhearing wouldn't help.

Tim was dead.

And Kon couldn't hear him.

...

It took 30 minutes to find him. 30 minutes where Kon was trying very hard not to destroy everything he saw.

And just when he was about to break down in tears again, they found him.

In the back of a street, in Crime Alley of all places, Tim's body lay. Blood pooled around him, his face pale.

But something was different.

Tim was smiling. He was happy he died, choking on his own blood from a incision across the neck. He was at peace.

But that wasn't what was wrong.

"That isn't Tim's body." Bart murmured.

"What?" Nightwing asked, his voice cracking as he held back from running over to Tims body.

"It isn't him. Tim might be alive! That isn't his body!!" Bart said, his hope coming back tenfold.

Cassie and Kon were nodding in agreement. "Yeah. That's a fake body." Kon said, his voice filled with relief. "He's alive! Tim's alive!"

"What are you talking about, you imbeciles! That is Red Robins body!" Robin hissed out through clenched teeth.

"No. It's not. It's an exact replica, but it's not Tim." Cassie insisted.

"How do you know?" Nightwing asked.

The three glanced at each other before answering in unison. "Tim wouldn't die so rigidly."

"That... Doesn't make any sense." Nightwing said.

"No. It wouldn't. Not to you guys." Bart responded.

There was a pause, the perfect pause, as a shadow fell over the group.

"Brother." an angelic voice said, a familiar figure sitting above them.

"Black Bat? Why are aren't you in Hong Kong." Batman asked.

And Cass? Cass took off her mask, barred her teeth at the other bats, and made her way to Tim's 'body'.

Kon, Bart, and Cassie made no move to stop her. They all knew that Cass was the one Bat Tim trusted without a doubt. And if Tim trusted someone, they did too.

Cass knelt beside the fake body, studying signs only she could see.

"Fake. Brother is alive."

And then she was up and moving, grabbing Cassie's, and Bart's hands and dragging them with her. With a flick of her hand, Kon was following as well.

"We will find him." she promised.

With those words, the four disappeared I to the night, leaving three disbelieving Bats behind.

....

I know it's probably confusing as to how Bart, Kon, Cassie, and Cass knew that Tim's body wasn't the one there, but all will be explained.

Also, if you're wondering why his body is fake, well, if you were paying attention to the other chapters you would've noticed that Tim didn't have a spleen.

Which means he arrived in his own body.
The body he died in.

*Evil laughter* Until next time!
