Ch. 1- strange beginning
"Mea honey wake up." My Mom said as she gently shook my arm. "Mmhh.. five more minutes mom." I groaned as I pulled the covers over my head. "If we wait five more minutes then we won't get to the new house so quickly and you won't be able to unpack your things as quickly as you wanted too." My eyes shot open and I quickly sat up. "I'll be ready in three minutes!" I said as I jumped out of my hotel bed.
My name is Mea Thorn. I'm sixteen years old and my mom and I are currently moving to my grandfathers -that I never knew of- house.
I quickly rush out of the bathroom brushing my long dark brown hair. I threw on a tank top along with my dark purple hoodie, some dark wash shorts and my black vans. I looked over at my mom and smile slightly as I see her grab her small duffel bag. My mom has died bleach blonde hair and it needs to be touched up since you can see her dark brown roots. She has one sky blue eye and the other is a pale color. The eye that's pale is that way since it turned that way from an accident she was in. That also explains the scar on her face too. I'm not sure what happened exactly she always changes the story. I choose to not ask about it and just go along with everything else.
"Ok honey you ready?" I nod to my mom then remembered something. "Um you go to the car Mom I just want to make sure I didn't forget anything ok?" She nodded and I smiled. Once she was out of the room I quickly opened the drawer next to me and took out a small clock. This clock... it lets the user know how long they have till they die. I got this about two years ago from my uncle Time. He told me to never lose it, to not let my family see it and to never let it break. I was only fourteen so I didn't question it but he didn't tell me what it did either. It's not until recently that I figured out what it's purpose was.
I looked down at the clock and saw the time...
"Years: 0, months: 8, days: 15, hours: 8, minutes: 50." I looked down sadly knowing I now have less then a year to live. I don't know how I'll die but that's not important right now. What matters is making sure I live to the fullest now.
I was cut off by my thoughts by my mom honking the horn. I put the clock back on it's chain and put it around my neck along with my amulet. I've always had this amulet. I never take it off and I mean NEVER! Ever since I was a child, I was told to not take it off. My mom would tell me stories about how it will protect me and how it's a symbol of her love. I smiled remembering everything that me and my mom have done.
I quickly run out of the room and into the car with my mother. Now you might be wondering why are we moving? Well you see the city we lived in before.. well let's just say that the people there aren't so nice to other that aren't.... human. Yep I live in a world with other creatures. But theirs only four creatures-that I know of- here, humans, wizards, werewolves and meif'was. In my old town they only excepted humans, heck even if you were a wizard you would get kicked out! Me and my mom didn't like that so we decided to move in with her father, my uncle, I never met him before but my moms talked about him.
She says he's a scientist and can be strange sometimes but he's still a good man.
I smile at my mother as we start to see more trees and mountain like landscapes. I've always lived in the city so moving to the country is going to be new. I didn't know much about this town but I was excited to get to have this new experience with my mother. Ever since dad left it's always been me and her. My father left us just before we first moved into the city. I would ask mom questions about dad but she would normally dodge the question or change the subject. We don't even have any pictures of us as a family and I don't even remember what he looks like for crying out loud!
I was cut off from my thoughts from my mom squealing slightly. "We're here!" She sang. I smiled briefly and looked out the window. Yes getting out of that town was great but I had to leave my four best friends behind. I've never been good at making friends so I was scared about going to a new school and being around strangers. My mom looked over at me and gently placed her hand on mine. "You'll be ok sweetie trust me." I smiled and nodded. We soon pulled up to a house. It was HUGE! It had blood rep bricks and raven black roofing.
Mom got out of the car and got her things out of the trunk. We lived in an apartment before that already had beds and everything so we just needed to pack our clothes and such. I quickly got out of they car and grabbed my things as well.
We walked up the old steps and stood in front of the door. With a shaky hand I knocked but after a few moments no answer. I looked back at my mother and she just smiled and told me to try again. I knocked a bit harder and then we heard a window open. Then...
"Where has tho noise come from?! Is thy my new granddaughter that I has been watching for!!? May her take the resemblance of my daughter and let me hold thy in my arms and show her thy love! And with these thoughts let me fly down and see her!!!" Me and my mothers eyes widened and we quickly ran back down the steps.
Above us I saw a man in a lab coat. He had crazy messy white hair and orange-green goggles on. He saw us and smiled. My heart stoped when I saw him jump from the window, he did a triple front flip and landed three feet behind us. We quickly turned around and he bent 90 degrees BACKWARDS and held his hand out to me. "Top of the morning to ya miss! You must be Mea, in your uncle Thor it's a pleasure to finally meet you!" I laughed and smiled as I shook his hand. "It great to finally meet you." He smiled and stood up straight. My mother let out a sigh of relief. "Dad please don't do that again you almost gave me a heart attack." We all laughed and went inside.
---------
After a few hours of getting my room set up i was finally done. I got my moms old room and to be honest all I did was rearrange some things and put up a few posters. The room was the style I liked anyways so no need to change the bedding or anything. I smiled and walked downstairs. Mom was in the kitchen and uncle Thor probably back upstairs in his lab. I walked into the kitchen and grabbed an apple.
"Hey mom I'm gonna go and walk around the town for a bit ok?" She looked at me and smiled. "Ok and if you get lost just call me ok?" I nodded and walked out the door.
As I was walking around I met a few townspeople. They all noticed I was new, I was worried that they would treat me like an outside or outcast like my old home would with new people. But instead they were all nice. It was just a group of grown ups. "What's your name kid?" This one lady asked. "M-my name!? It's Mea. Mea Thorn." Her eyes widened and she scooped me up into her arms. "O-M-GOODNESS!! YOUR JEWELS KID AREN'T YOU!!" I stared at her wide eyed. "How did you know my mothers name?" She smiled at me and put me down. "In Christa we grew up together in this town. Wait she never told me she was coming here." She pouted and looked down.
"Well actually we just moved in with her dad so maybe my mom wanted to surprise you?" She smiled brightly and patted my head. "Thanks Mea I'm going to go say hi to her. See ya around and here's a word of advice." I looked at her curiously. "Stay out of the east woods it's bad news ok?" I didn't question her and nodded. She smiled again and went off towards the house.
I turned on my heel and continued to walk around the town. I saw a small cafe and the warm, bitter smell of coffee filled my system. A warm drink sounded good so I decided to go inside. School must must have finished for the day since I saw a lot of high school students. It's strange though, almost everyone in here has a high school uniform on but there's four different uniform. The colors of a lot of the uniforms were different. 'I'll ask mom about that later. Right now let's just get coffee and relax.'
The man at the register was nice and noticed I saw new too. Guess it's obviously since I'm the only high school looking person here without a uniform. I quickly ordered my drink and sat down. I saw at a table in the corner that thankfully had a dim light. The last thing I would want is to get unnecessary attention. My drink soon came and I thank him. As I was enjoying my drink I heard someone clear their throats. I looked over to my side as saw a group of girls. The two that were in front of me didn't look happy. "C-can I help you?" I asked.
The one that I'm thinking is the leader of the group smirked at me. She had long fire red hair and golden eyes. "Well, well, well, what do we have here? A new girl? Haha, how cute." The others laughed and soon the whole cafe went silent. Everyone had their attention on us. I looked down as my hands started to shake. Another girl that was slightly smaller then the other one took my drink -which was cold to begin with- and dumped it on me. The cafe erupted with laughter. The light brown hair girl that was now hold my empty cup laughed and high five her friend.
"Aaawww what's wrong the newbie gonna cry!" "HAHA! Yah cry shrimp!" They mocked. My body was shaking with anger and I stood up. I was taller then the little one that called he shrimp and once she saw I was taller and pissed and scooted back in fear. I was face to face with the red head and was glaring at her. And oh boy I wish looks could kill. She smiled wickedly at me and put a hand in her hip. "That's a pretty low thing to do. Mess with a people that's new and that you don't know a thing about." A few oh's and whispers were heard and I stared into her golden eyes.
I smiled slightly. "You just do this to get attention, you mother and father fight and neglect you, you use your money and popularity to get others attention, you always bully on the weak to make yourself feel stronger and more need in the world when really you know your weak and you know that no matter what you do or how much trouble you cause your never going to get the attention you actually want from your parents-" "SHUT UP!!" She said and drought her hand back to slap me but before it hit my face I grabbed her wrist. "Your just scared.. scared that one day you'll be all alone and no one will care about you and the reason your scared of that is because you know that's exactly what will happen." I let go of her wrist and walked away from the group and out of the cafe. Once I was maybe five blocks down I moved over to an alleyway and leaned against the old brick walls. I slid down and brought my knees to my chest and hid my face in my arms.
Yes I stood up to her but I knew that I only made things worse for myself. My body shook as I cried and to make matters worst it started to rain. I didn't care if I got wet or sick, I liked being in the rain. It covered up the sounds of my crying and helped hide my tears. Soon the rain suddenly stopped falling on me and I looked up. I saw two guys. One with black hair and blue eyes and the other had brown hair and green eyes. They held up an umbrella over me and held out a hand. "Miss are you ok? We saw what happened at the cafe." I slowly got up and nodded. "Y-yes I'm fine... I um have to get home. Goodbye!" I said and ran off.
It didn't take me long to get home. My mom and uncle called out to me but instead I just ran up to my room and locked my door. A small sigh of relief escaped from my lips as I sat down on my bed. "This will get better right? It has to. It just has to." I whispered as I curled up into a ball.
