Chapter 18

Toby came to with his name being yelled in a panicked voice.

"Come on, wake up Toby! If you die I swear I'll never forgive you, you dickhead! Come on please..."

Tommy? He quickly pushed himself up to a sitting position, looking around. He was in a cell with stone brick walls and a smooth stone floor. He was by a metal door with a little window that could slide open or closed.

"Toby!"

He whirled around to see Tommy tied to a chair, beat up quite a bit, a cut under his eyes that seemed to be several hours old. His brothers looked like he was trying to hold back tears, though Tommy knew better to point that out.

"You scared me you asshole" Tommy glared, but there was no real malice behind his words, or his expression.

"Sorry..." He started to stand up, pausing when he noticed some blood on the ground where he'd been laying. Had he hit his head when he passed out? He shook his head, which surprisingly didn't hurt. It was a little sore on the sides for some reason, but nothing close to his headaches...It was kind of a relief.

He quickly made his way to his brother, working to get the knots undone and free him from the chair, "Tommy I'm so sorry...it's my fault you're here, I- I'm Tubbo, I borrowed your bandana, and I'm so so sorry for getting you dragged into this-"

"I figured that out already, and you don't need to be sorry. You're not the one who kidnapped me, or tied me up, or hurt me..." Tommy said, shrugging. He rubbed his wrists as they were untied, "That was that bastard Schlatt..."

He shot a glare at the door, "And others, apparently..."

"You figured it out? How? When?"

"I'm a brilliant individual, that's how-"

After Toby raised an eyebrow at him he chuckled,

"Alright, it was deductive reasoning... After they said they'd gotten my bandana off of Tubbo, I realized it had to be you, or someone in our family..."

"And you're...ok with that?"

"Why wouldn't I be? I'm related to two badass heros, I'm more than ok with that-"

"And you're not...freaked out by it?"

"Oh I am, but the shock of being kidnapped and shit seems to have outweighed that. I'm over it. I think it's awesome, I just wish you had told me about your powers earlier..." he paused, then said, "But I know why you didn't...our earlier conversations about Tubbo make a lot more sense now."

Once his legs and torso were free, he stood up, stretching and wincing a bit. Toby wondered if there were other wounds other than the visible ones on his arms and face. There probably were, and he wanted to knock the villain's teeth in.

"You should have those injuries looked at Tommy, especially the cuts..." he said, worriedly running a hand through his hair.

Tommy waved a dismissive hand, "I'm fine. No one here would bother to help me anyways..."

"Tommy-"

"I said I'm-" his brother turned towards him, but trailed off as he really looked at the sides of Toby's head, pausing, "What the hell are those?"

"What?"

"There's something poking out from your hair, on the sides of your head-" Tommy frowned, getting closer, "also blood, but it's not a lot, and mostly dried from the looks of it..."

Toby quickly raised his hands to the sides of his head. He definitely felt dried blood, but also...were those horns?

"What the fuck-" he muttered, eyes wide, "When did I grow horns?"

Then he realized. The headaches. The first ones, the small ones, they'd been normal. Those must have been from his powers being used after so long. But the worse ones had started coming from the sides of his head. These had been growing for a few weeks.

"They...they look like the horns of those baby rams we saw at the petting zoo a couple years ago..." Tommy said slowly, also in shock as he stared at his brother.

What the hell. What the hell? There was only one person they knew of with ram horns. And it was the man holding them captive. This was just a coincidence, Right? There wasn't any connection to him...surely not.

"Ok don't freak out Toby, deep breaths-"

"Don't freak out? The only other person we know of with ram horns is the man keeping us in this cell Tommy- "

"I know, trust me-" his brother nodded, "But surely There's a reasonable explanation for this, right?"

"Sure..." Toby nodded, grasping into that hope, taking a few deep breaths.

Suddenly, they paused as the door opened, and Quackity walked in. He had a first aid kit in his hand.

"Oh good, you're untied-"

Tommy's demeanor changed immediately.

"What do you want, you bastard?" He glared, fists clenching.

"Tommy-"

Quackity paused as the door closed behind him.

"No! He's working with his 'father', he's a bad guy!" He took a step towards Quackity, but Toby put a hand on his shoulder.

"Tommy stop-"

"I'm here to help..." Quackity said, wincing at Tommy's anger, taking a tentative step towards them

"I don't want any help from you!" Tommy snarled, taking a step back.

"Just let me help you dammit!"

"No, fuck off!"

"Tommy, calm down-" Toby said, which made Tommy turn to him, angrily opening his mouth, but Toby didn't let him say anything, "I know, it's bad, but...he said he'd explain things, so please at least let him before cursing him out..."

The tall boy's scowl deepened, eyes flashing between Toby and Quackity... "fine..."

He flopped in the center chair, crossing his arms.

"Can I please tend to your cuts too?" Quackity asked, kneeling by the chair. He had that genuine concern in his eyes again, "And I'll tell you everything...I don't have long, Schlatt just said to fix you up if you'd let me..."

Tommy shot a glance at Toby, who nodded encouragingly, and Tommy sighed. "Fine, I suppose so...but i'm not gonna be happy about it"

Quackity opened the first aid kit, and got to work.

"I told Toby already, but I never wanted to get you or any of our friends involved...I never have any thought to what Schlatt did before, partly cause it almost never included me... partly because it's how I was raised. I didn't...I still don't really know anything else. None of us did. We...the three of us all lost our parents when we were young. My parents had an accident when I was five. Fundy...he accidentally burned his house down with his parents inside when he was six. George...his parents were murdered when he was two. I guess I got lucky as far as the 'losing my parents thing'" he chuckled darkly.

Toby and Tommy's eyes widened in shock. Christ...

"We..until we were able to go to school, we were kind of robots..told what to do, not really caring about things. Schlatt decided to be 'nice' and let us enroll when we were younger. Turned out to be a mistake on his part, as far as he's concerned. We learned how to care about people."

Tommy snorted, then winced, "right-"

"We did...we wouldn't have without our friends." Quackity glanced at them, putting a bigger bandaid "you guys are the first ones I really care about, to really care about me. Outside of George and Fundy on both accounts. You don't have to believe me, but it's the truth..."

He finished patching Tommy up, the blonde boy looking less angry than he had. A lot less. In a moment, Quackity is standing again. "I have a plan to get you out of here."

That got their attention

"What?" Tommy asked, knitting his eyebrows

"I have a plan" their friend replied, "I told Fundy and George to go get their friends, and to go find your family...they know the address. Schlatt won't care cause they're out a lot these days. Plus he's kind of...distracted at the moment.."

He glanced at Toby, then did a double take. "What the fuck wait- are those?"

"Uh, yes?" Toby nodded, "No idea why though..."

"Huh..." Quackity paused, seeming to think, then glanced at the other two. "I should be going, don't want him to get suspicious...I swear though, I'll get you guys out of here..."

"Why..?" Tommy asked, "Why help us now..you're been used to this stuff before right?"

"I've wanted to go against him for years now...all of us have" Quackity said quietly, glancing back at them. "But I wasn't brave enough. I never got up the courage to. Now, I have a reason, something to fight for"

He glanced paused before he opened the door, giving them a sincere look, "Like I said before, I care about you guys. I really do. We're friends..."

And with that, he left, leaving the two of them alone, glancing at each other. Neither of them had expected that. They made small talk for a little, keeping their voices quiet, when maybe forty five minutes later, the door of the cell opened again, but instead of Quackity, Schlatt entered, a smirk on his face. His eyes skimmed over Tommy, before they locked on Toby, and zeroed in on the small horns that were poking out of his hair. His smirk widened into a nasty grin.

"Well..." he mused, "this makes things interesting.."
