A prisoner entrapped on an island. A villain separated from the rest of the world. A person with no chance of redemption.

The rulers of Auradon claim that all villains have been sent to the isle. That there is no evil in their kingdom. But they lie. She knows it. Because she's living proof, that not every person on the isle was there when the borders went up.

At only a few years old, she was abandoned on the Isle of the Lost, living in the dumps after being dropped off by the goblins meant to carry garbage to and from the perfect kingdom.

At least until Hades found her - or she found him...

Valerie Mortem. That's what he called her. A last name of his own creation in order to fool anyone looking for who she truly was. And a name that kept her protected from the dangers on the isle, for the most part.

But the truth in her name was that it made her someone. Carrying Hades mantle opened new doors for the little orphan by circumstance. It created friends. And it created opportunities a nobody would never have gotten a chance to have.

Valerie becomes more than she ever believed she could be under Hades guidance. Valerie learns about magic, and the powers that the borders are keeping from her. She learns how to brandish a sword and flick daggers from the son of Captain Hook. She spends her days running through her Uncle's territory with her gang of friends. And eventually she comes to terms with why she's been treated as a villain for so long.

"I BELIEVE YOU COULD BE MORE."

A plan forms in Auradon, the boy-prince to be king wants to offer a chance to kids of the villains to change, to become more than villains. Only his plans, and the treaties with the gods, mean that one child of a god must be included within those that come to Auradon.

And the only child of the gods on the island is the supposed daughter of Hades.

Valerie wants to refuse the offer. She desperately tries to. Going to a kingdom that has despised her since she was born surrounded by people that have shown their hatred for her time and time again sounds like a nightmare-

a nightmare that she would never be able to wake up from.

So when the day arrives and the sleek black limo arrives at Hades lair she begrudgingly climbs in. She reluctantly lets go of everything that she's had to find and fight for on the isle for a chance that may not even exist and for a nightmare that terrifies her.

But she's the supposed daughter of Hades - she can't let anyone know how scared she is.

AUTHOR'S NOTE // another day, another fic that's been on my mind for far too long. this fic has always almost been a self insert, but that's okay with me lol.

tragic fairytale is a part of a two book series because I don't want to try to write all three movies and the in-between in a single book!! plus between act one and act three there's a whole lot of character development that goes on for everyone so I want to be able to separate it more!!

I'm really diving into life on Hade's side of the Isle and people on the Isle having good and healthy relationships as friends, family, and lovers. I'm also bringing in a few book!canon facts that the movies leave out, such as Harry's two sisters (and the fact that he is a middle child). plus the two rival schools on the Isle and all the challenges that a VK outside of the main four would face alone in Auradon

and as my love of including my own take on mythology needs to leak into all of my fics,
you'll find that I've mixed several different "genres?" into this fic!! not to mention it's going
to be a slight marvel crossover because I'd
rather write marvel!Thor, Jane, and Loki than myth Thor and Loki
