12. Moment Of Truth
"This is really good," Jungkook said as he sat on the shredded couch, eating one of the pizza slices from the box that had been ordered earlier. The cheesy toppings had fallen off the pizza like a toupee in a wind storm, but Jungkook didn't care. Jimin watched as the man eagerly ate it before reaching out his hand for another slice, pausing halfway through the motion.
"Go ahead and take another slice," said Jimin as he held the pizza box closer to Jungkook. "Eat up."
Jungkook offered him a small smile as he took another piece and started eating. It was as Jungkook ate the next slice that his eyes wandered to Hobi who was pacing back and forth in front of the shattered television set.
"What's he doing?" asked Jungkook.
"I think he's just worried about Henley's reaction," said Jimin.
Jimin looked over at Hobi to see that his cell phone was still out. When Jimin had failed to secure any sort of handyman to fix what had happened to the apartment, Hobi had immediately gone into panic mood. It was obvious that Henley meant a great deal to him, and that Hobi was worried about what she would think when she reappeared home. He had sent some sort of text to her, but was still waiting for a response. Jungkook swallowed what was in his mouth slowly as he let his eyes take in the wrecked apartment.
"I really am sorry," he said.
"It's okay," said Jimin. "It wasn't your fault. It was the fault of whoever sent you. You're sure you can't remember anything about that?"
Jungkook shook his head.
"Whenever I'm a wolf, it gets fuzzy. Ever since they took me, they haven't let me remain human for long. Well...I shouldn't say that. They really haven't let me at all. There is only one time I can recall being human while being in their clutches, but even then all I remember is my cage..."
"I'm sorry you had to go through that."
"It was my own fault for not listening to my parents," said Jungkook, losing all his appetite as he held the half eaten slice limply in one hand. "I hope they don't blame themselves for what happened to me and I hope they are okay..."
Jimin moved to put an arm about Jungkook, tugging him in close.
"Maybe we can see if we can find them. Let them know you're alive and well."
"That'll be like finding a needle in a haystack," Jungkook said as he leaned against Jimin a bit. "I can barely remember what they look like, and there are so many werewolves that live in the forest..."
"We can still try," said Jimin. "Supposedly I'm supposed to be lucky."
A small smirk danced its way across Jungkook's lips.
"You might want to tell that to Hobi."
It was as if on cue, when Jungkook said Hobi's name, that Hobi threw his hands up in the air in frustration.
"UGH!"
"You okay, Hobi?" asked Jimin.
Hobi quickly nodded his head, slipping a smile upon his face as he came over to the other two. It was clear that his reaction had made Jungkook feel badly as Jungkook seemed to shrivel up on himself on the couch against Jimin.
"I'm sorry," said Hobi. "That exasperation wasn't directed at either of you. I just...I was trying to stall Henley. I was hoping that maybe your good luck just needed to warm up Jimin and that we would have time to fix the place before she comes home."
"I think that'll take a miracle," said Jimin, "Not just a bit of good luck."
"I'd offer to pay," piped up Jungkook, "But I have no money. I can offer labor though."
"It's fine," said Hobi as he looked at Jungkook. "You need to stop feeling guilty for hunters using you. You're among family now."
Jungkook nodded his head as he moved to sit up some on the couch.
"It's weird to think that," said Jungkook, "But it's a nice thought all the same. You think this Henley will like me then?"
"I'm sure," said Hobi. "She's very kind."
Now it was just a waiting game for the three of them, left in the wrecked apartment to wonder when Henley would come home and what her reaction might be.

"Thank you for seeing me home, Jin."
"Of course," he said as he stood outside her apartment building.
Before they had left the palace, Jin had made a quick exit to change out of his chameleon like armor into something more casual. His form fitting jeans and swampy green polo shirt were much more fitting for outside the palace. He had a black baseball squashed down on the top of his treasure trove of hair with tinted sunglasses over his eyes. He had made an excuse to both Namjoon and Lianna that he would like to take Henley out on a date so they would be unable to stay for supper. They would have been back at the apartment sooner if Jin hadn't suggested the two of them walk. Lianna hadn't been a fan of the walking, but Henley actually preferred it. She hated being carted about like a VIP.
It had taken them around forty minutes to walk back home to the apartment. In that time, the two of them had made more small talk. Henley began to realize just how down to earth the man was for being a prince. He had also revealed something that had absolutely shocked her. Back in his kingdom, he wasn't greatly respected because he valued mythical creatures. He didn't see them as threats.
'They are merely scared. That is why they lash out. They aren't as scary as we make them out to be. They are just wanting to belong. I know they outnumber us. If they wanted to, they could have declared war on us a thousand times over and been successful.'
His words rang through her head still as she watched him looking about her apartment surroundings. Maybe she should invite him up. It was the least that she could do for him walking her home, and then if he saw Hobi and Jimin, maybe she wouldn't be alone with the secret. There was something deep down in her though that was still telling her she ought to be careful since she just met this man. Yes, he seemed kind but princes were bred to be smooth talkers in order to become good diplomats. She had to hold her cards close to her chest.
"May I have your secret cell number at least? So that I can maybe call upon you again sometime?"
"What if Lianna catches you?" she asked; Jin's question bringing her out of her thoughts again.
"Haven't you learned yet that I'm secretly a ninja too?" asked Jin with a twinkle.
It was the least she could do since she wouldn't be inviting him in. When she dug her cell phone out, she forgot that Hobi's missed message was on the screen still. Jin's eyes happened to catch sight of it before Henley could swipe it away.
"Hobi...that's a name I haven't heard in a while," said Jin with a small chuckle. "Sorry...sorry...I couldn't help but to see the name on the screen."
"You knew someone named Hobi?" asked Henley, trying to be coy and play it off. "Must be more common of a name than I realized."
"Or nickname," said Jin. "It was his nickname. I used to have a friend that went by Hobi when I was younger. We'd hang out whenever my family came to visit Namjoon's. This was before my parents sent me off to boarding schools. We lost touch after that. But anyway..."
He held out a hand so that Henley could hand Jin the phone with the new contact window open. He began to tap his fingers over the screen as Henley let her mind turn. This man couldn't possibly know her Hobi. Yet, she felt small twinges of doubt pop up in her as well. Jin could have very well been friends with Hobi when he was a child. After all, Henley hadn't been with Hobi her entire life, and Hobi didn't talk about his past. She was still lost in her thoughts as Jin handed the phone back to her.
"Now can you put yours in mine?" asked Jin as he dug out his cell phone, handing it to her after the new contact screen was up.
She nodded as she took the phone in her hand, quickly entering her information.
"You should ask Hobi about me," said Jin silently when she handed his phone back. "See if we're talking about the same one."
She still didn't say anything for a moment as she looked at Jin. He reached up to remove the shades from his eyes, locking his gaze on hers.
"I understand having guards up, but I hope in time you can realize I can be a trusted friend."
"I still...I don't understand why you'd want me for your friend. If it wasn't for Lianna and Namjoon..."
"They caused us to meet yes," said Jin, "But I'm sorely lacking in the friends department."
"Is there a reason for that?"
"My title," said Jin. "No one wants to be my friend for the cool suave guy I am."
"Did you really describe yourself as suave?"
"And what if I did?" he asked with a small grin.
She couldn't help but to give a small grin back.
"But anyway," continued Jin as a pause settled between them again. "Take care, Henley. I hope that I'll see you again soon. Text me anytime."
He moved to put the shades back over his eyes as he turned then, starting to walk back down the road towards the palace. She watched him go until he disappeared from view around the corner. When he did, she moved inside and up the staircase. Her first clue that something had happened while she was gone should have been the haphazardly slanted apartment door. She felt her heart sink at the sight. What had happened while she had been gone?
Walking over to the door, she barely turned the handle before the door fell off its hinges and onto the ground. Before she could say anything, her neighbor cleared his throat from behind her. She slowly turned to face them.
"I think someone broke in while you were gone," he said. "There was a lot of commotion across the way."
She didn't know what to say. Hobi knew to keep a low profile when he was left home alone. Had this been why he texted?
"I already called the police for you," continued the neighbor. "They said they were backed up, but could check out the compliant soon."
'Crap,' thought Henley. 'I wonder how long ago they called? I have to get Jimin and Hobi out of there.'
Thanking the neighbor, Henley waited until the nosy neighbor had retreated back into their apartment before entering hers. She had some words for Hobi. The words died away on her lips though as she stood in the entryway and looked at Hobi and Jimin sitting on her shredded couch on either side of a man that she had never seen before. The man's face turned scarlet as he slowly rose to his feet, raising a meek hand in greeting while using the other to brush his ink black hair from his face.
"Hi. My name is Jungkook. Sorry about your apartment."
