15. A Prince, Merman, Werewolf, And Fairy Walk Into An Apartment

Jin sat cross legged on the floor of Henley's apartment in front of the broken television. Henley sat cross legged on the floor across from Jin. On her right side sat Jimin and on her left sat Hobi.

"So who is going to start talking?" asked Jin for what felt like the hundredth time.

"I will," said Henley. "Since I brought you here. But shut off your phone first."

Jin sighed as he dug out his phone. He did what she said without question, putting it down on the ground between them so she could clearly see it was off.

"Want me to empty my pockets too?" He asked as he began to do so without her saying anything. Out of his left pocket he pulled some keys which he explained were keys to his rooms at the palace. Out of the other pocket he pulled a silver oval looking device. When he saw Henley's brow quirk in question, he explained what it was.

"This is a portable weapon," said Jin. "I can show you how it works if you like."

She nodded her head, so Jin held it in his hands as he stood up. He pressed his thumb print in the center as he stood away from them for a moment. As soon as his thumb print was identified by the device, a small burst of purple light flew out of the end of it. Jimin's eyes marveled at it.

"It's like a lightsaber," Jimin whispered in awe.

Jin chuckled at Jimin's reaction. Guess that answered Jimin's question about whether or not there was Star Wars in this world. He supposed those movies were universal.

"Yes, like a lightsaber," Jin said as he pressed his thumb back on the center. "It's called a prism dagger though, and it's safer than those lightsabers as it's only operable with my fingerprints."

With the dagger put back, he placed it on the floor near his phone as he took up his cross legged position on the floor again.

"Now will you tell me what is going on?" asked Jin.

"So you know about Hobi because the two of you used to be friends," said Henley, "But Jimin here...Jimin is also a mythical being."

Jimin could tell that Jin was studying him once more. Jimin wanted desperately to duck his head, but he didn't. He met Jin's gaze in an unwavering way.

"What kind of mythical creature?" Jin asked. "Is he a fairy like Hobi?"

"No. He's a merman," said Henley softly.

Jin's eyes widened in surprise. That hadn't been what he expected her to say, and it was obvious.

"But do you realize how rare that is?...Wait, is that why you're hesitant about dating me?"

"I love how you just jump to conclusions on your own," said Henley with a small smirk.

"What? I'm World Wide Handsome. There are a lot of women wanting to date me. Have you not ever read one magazine article about me and my lovely bachelor status?"

The genuine smile that spread across Jin's face made Henley relax some. Jin turned his gaze back to Jimin.

"How long have you two been connected?"

"Almost two days now," said Jimin.

"Two days," said Jin with a nod of his head before taking in the wreck of a place they were still sat in. "So can I take it that the wreckage is from a hunter?"

"There you go assuming again," said Henley, "But yes. While I was gone, my apartment was attacked by something a hunter sent."

"Something?" asked Jin. "How many more surprises do you have up your sleeve today, Henley?"

"Just...you need to be gentle with him," said Henley.

"Yes," spoke up Hobi. "It wasn't his fault."

Jin just nodded his head, trying to appear relaxed to put them all at ease.

"Tell him to come out then. Wherever he is hiding," said Jin.

Jimin was the one that rose to stand, moving down the hall to where Jungkook was still standing in the shadows of Hobi's doorway. Jimin moved to grab one of Jungkook's hands in his, holding it firmly as he walked him out into the other room where Jin waited for them. Jin's eyes landed on Jungkook as he stood there holding Jimin's hand with his head hung.

"What's your name?" asked Jin softly when he saw that Jungkook was failing to make eye contact with him. Jimin thought it admirable that Jin didn't launch automatically into asking what kind of creature Jungkook was.

"Jungkook..." he mumbled softly as Jin moved to stand up, walking over to him.

Jin put a hand gently under Jungkook's chin to cause the other to look into his eyes. Jungkook's dark eyes locked with Jin's softer ones.

"What did the hunter do to you?" asked Jin in a soft measured tone.

Tears sparkled in Jungkook's eyes, making his brown irises look like marbles shining in the sun.

"They captured me when I was eight, and enslaved me to hunt for them. I...I'm a werewolf."

Jin nodded as he offered Jungkook a small smile before turning to look at Henley.

"I feel like you have the start of a joke here. A prince, a merman, a werewolf and a fairy walked into an apartment..." said Jin before quickly adding, "I'm sorry. I don't mean to make light of the situation..."

Jin paused as a frown took over his face. It was clear his mind was reeling.

"So there are several things that we need to do," said Jin finally. "First we need to relocate you all immediately. The hunters no doubt know that you're here.

"Where do I go?" asked Henley. "I don't have anywhere to go."

"I have a country house here," said Jin. "Namjoon gifted it to me several years back. We can go there."

"We?"

"Someone needs to protect you and your mythical crew," said Jin. "So if none of you mind, I will be staying with you for the foreseeable future."

Jin paused as he turned his head to face Jungkook fully again.

"Jungkook, how did the hunters use you?" asked Jin.

"I had a collar about my neck," he said.

"Where is the collar now?" asked Jin.

"I threw it into the ocean," said Hobi.

Jin scowled a bit before nodding his head, "I need to retrieve that collar."

"Why?" asked Henley.

"Several reasons," said Jin. "One is that enslaving mythical beings is a breach of the peace code of the kingdom. Whoever is doing so needs to face the proper prosecution. Secondly, the collar will lead me straight to the people responsible for threatening violence on a peaceful citizen. Being located at my country house will be perfect as it is also closer to the ocean. First thing tomorrow I will sail out to look for that collar. Hobi, I hope you'll come with me to help me find the general location where you dropped it."

Hobi nodded his head.

"Of course," said Hobi. "Whatever I can do to help."

Henley had to admit that - even though she felt reservations towards this man earlier - she was more at ease now. Jin seemed to be someone they could trust and depend on. She just hoped it stayed that way.
