17. Something Fishy

Jimin shouldn't have had a hard time with processing mythical beings now, especially being one himself. However, when the man told him that he was a half man and half siren, his mind went blank. This man was like him, but not at the same time. Taehyung's gaze turned to look at Jin who had managed to prop himself up onto his elbows some during the introduction. Jin's sopping wet hair clung to his face as rivers of water ran down his face and over the curves of his cheeks and lips. Occasionally he had to blink the water out of his eyes. Hobi sat back on his heels near Jin for a moment as he too looked at Taehyung.

"You're like her," said Jin, breaking the silence.

"Clearly you're not fully back with the program yet," remarked Taehyung, "For starters, I'm clearly male. Not anywhere close to being a female, thank you. She's also full on siren. There's nothing human about her."

Jin smirked, tossing his eyes up to the sky above him. Taehyung's own smirk grew like that of a Cheshire Cat as his arms crossed across his chest.

"You're welcome for helping to save your life by the way, your highness," said Taehyung with a bit of condescension in his tone. "Hope you enjoy living again."

Taehyung's eyes turned towards Jimin after, narrowing in on him enough that it started to make Jimin uncomfortable. He felt like Taehyung's gaze was stripping him right down to the soul as if he could see all of Jimin's dark past and found it amusing.

"Let's go for a walk, tuna fish," said Taehyung as he started to stroll down the shore away from the boat as if just assuming Jimin would get up to follow.

Jin and Hobi tracked Taehyung with their eyes who - as he walked off - had put both of his hands behind his back as he started to whistle a tune. Jimin turned to look at the two of them. They both wore passive looks on their faces, so it was hard for him to tell whether they thought it was a good idea for him to walk after this stranger or not. This was a decision that Jimin would have to make for himself.

Standing slowly up from his spot on the ground, he moved to follow after Taehyung. Taehyung seemed to be able to tell this as a wider smirk worked its way onto his face as he kept walking.

"Smart choice," said Taehyung as he picked his way along the shore.

Jimin followed silently behind him, turning to look back only once at Jin and Hobi who hadn't moved an inch. He saw a flicker of an emotion come over Jin's face and had a feeling that once the other felt more recovered he'd be after Taehyung. The further Jimin walked away from them, the more he had to keep reminding himself that they were his family, and they wouldn't let anything happen to him. Taehyung and Jimin had soon rounded a corner and disappeared completely out of sight.

"You haven't been a fish stick for long, have you?" asked Taehyung as he stepped up onto the rocks where Jimin and Hobi had been before they had seen Jin's air tank.

"Would you stop calling me names?" snapped Jimin. "What are you? Twelve?"

Turning around, a melodic laugh fell from Taehyung's lips. The wind sprayed the waves up against the rocks as the storm still stirred in the sky. The wind caused a few dark curls to dance across Taehyung's forehead.

"I was wondering how long it would take to get you to break," confessed Taehyung, "But it's hard to call you anything else when you haven't given me your name."

"You never asked for it."

"Oh, I'm sorry. What are you? Twelve?"

Hearing his own words thrown back at him caused Jimin to curl his hands into fists at his side. Taehyung's amber colored gaze caught sight of the action, and the laughter fell from his lips once more.

"Relax a little," said Taehyung.

Seeing that the other failed to relax his fists, Taehyung sighed and moved towards him. Without hesitation, he grabbed Jimin by the shoulders and hurled him off the rocks into the sea. Jimin was completely taken off guard and he flailed, trying and failing to stay balanced. Jimin fell into the water as a wave came up to catch him to avoid him hitting the rocks. He went completely under the water for a moment before popping his head right back above the water. His tail was hidden underneath the surface. Taehyung - who still stood on the rocks - grinned like he had done something to be proud of.

"Look! No more fists!" Taehyung said with glee.

Before Jimin could say anything, Taehyung turned to jump into the water beside Jimin. Jimin turned his head aside as a splash of water came up to coat his face from the other's cannonball. Soon Taehyung was treading water beside Jimin with his own tail. While Taehyung looked amused, Jimin's face looked worse than the approaching storm.

"Now will you tell me your name, goldfish?"

"You have some sort of twisted logic to think pushing me in the water will make me want to tell you my name," said Jimin, watching the other start to chuckle.

"Sometimes we all need a push to put our guard down," said Taehyung, "Plus, you were fine. I knew you would be. So...a name or do I keep up the fish names? I've had a decade or two to think up a slew."

"Jimin," he said reluctantly as Taehyung grinned in triumph.

"Huzzah! I got a name!"

Jimin rolled his eyes as he watched Taehyung flip onto his back to swim away; his golden tail breaking above the surface as he did some backstrokes.

"Come on Jimin," said Taehyung. "I want to show you something."

Jimin watched as Taehyung - who seemed to him like a happy child - swam away from him and around the rocks. Jimin was left alone for a moment when Taehyung disappeared around the corner. It wasn't until Taehyung came back and peeked his head around the corner that Jimin started to move.

"I don't know why I'm following you," muttered Jimin loud enough for Taehyung to hear. "I barely know you, and you haven't been the nicest."

"Haven't I though?" asked Taehyung as he moved to swim backwards again so that he could face Jimin as they moved towards wherever it was he was taking them. When he saw Jimin stop swimming, he sighed, stopping as well. "You've got to understand..."

When Taehyung's words actually seemed to fail him for once, Jimin cocked a brow.

"What exactly do I have to understand?"

"There aren't many creatures like us. Male versions, I mean. We're extremely rare."

There was obviously a story that Taehyung was wanting to share, but was not daring to. In some sort of twisted way, perhaps what Taehyung had been showing him was brotherly love. They were rather similar, and Taehyung actually seemed to look a bit sad now when he realized his actions might have been misunderstood.

"I can tell," said Jimin, "Since you have a hard time acting civilly around me."

Taehyung wasn't making eye contact with him now. Instead his eyes were sweeping the waves. Jimin swam over to him, placing a hand on his shoulder.

"Let's talk," said Jimin. "Before I change my mind, calamari."

That caused Taehyung to laugh as he looked at Jimin.

"Calamari?"

"I felt I had to try at least one fish related name on you," said Jimin as he grinned.

"I suppose I understand that. My place is nearby. We can talk there," said Taehyung.

"Well then, lead the way," said Jimin.

Taehyung soon moved to start cutting through the water again with Jimin close behind.
