30. Search Party
Jimin woke up early the next morning as the sunlight streamed into the room. Sitting up on the couch he had fallen to sleep on, he looked about the room to see that Taehyung was lying sprawled on his back at odd angles on the floor; looking like he was doing some sort of vertical cheer as he snored. Hobi was sleeping with his back against the far wall; arms uncharacteristically crossed across his chest like he was contemplating something. Jin was reclined in a recliner with his head turned to the side, holding his weapon at the ready in one hand. As his aquamarine eyes scanned the room, the only one he noticed was missing was Henley.
He quietly untangled himself from the blanket, moving across the floor to the sliding glass doors. He could see that she was on the porch; her eyes turned towards the forest Yoongi disappeared into the other night after Jungkook. The sound of the door squealing open alerted Henley to Jimin's presence, but she didn't turn around to face him.
"Good morning," she said; her intonation not hinting that it was.
"Are you alright?" asked Jimin as he moved to stand beside her.
"I just...they have been gone a while," said Henley softly. "I thought they would have been back by now."
"It was a bad storm," said Jimin. "They probably took shelter somewhere and will be back soon."
"I think we need to get together a search party," said Henley, "Just to make sure."
Jimin's eyes watched as her hands tightly grabbed the rail of the porch in front of her.
"What aren't you saying?" asked Jimin.
"I...I already lost part of my family to the woods before," said Henley softly; tears glistening in her eyes. "I think of all of you like family now. I can't lose my new family in there too."
"Hey..." said Jimin softly, slipping an arm about her. "You're not alone. We'll find them."
Henley looked over at Jimin with a soft smile on her face; Jimin moving to immediately take her fully into his arms. He hadn't held a woman so close since Arielle. Even then, he never felt the warmth reciprocated like he did now as Henley's arms wrapped about him back.
"I'm supposed to be good luck," continued Jimin as he held her. "So let me go with you to try and find them. I mean, not that I've been good luck so far..."
"Are you kidding me?" asked Henley as she felt her body relax in Jimin's hold. "You are lucky. You gave me a family. It's because of you that they are all in my life right now."
Jimin smiled as he leaned his head against the top of hers. Her hair smelled like lavender daydreams.
"Then lets go find that family," said Jimin. "Make us whole again."

"What is this?"
Yoongi looked up from where he was sitting at the foot of the bed as Jungkook emerged from the bedroom's huge walk in closet. Fifteen minutes ago, they had been summoned to supper with Ellis and had been requested to change out of their dirty clothing. Yoongi had already gone through the wardrobe choices and picked out a white pullover sweater and blue jeans. Jungkook on the other hand was still flipping through the clothes in search of something. This something was now in his hands and dangling in front of Yoongi's face.
"That would appear to be a shirt," said Yoongi with a small grin.
"I know it's a shirt," said Jungkook with a huff, turning the white billowy shirt so that it was facing him. "But why is everything in this wardrobe some sort of white thing?"
"I don't know," said Yoongi, scratching along his collar where the panic sweat was starting to make him inch. "How about you stop being a fashionista and just change? Supper is soon."
"Fine," said Jungkook as he disappeared back into the wardrobe.
When a few minutes passed without a word from Jungkook, Yoongi stood up off the bed to see if the other needed help. As he stood in the wardrobe doorway, he saw that Jungkook was just buttoning on blue jeans and he was currently shirtless.
"You have no shame," said Yoongi causing Jungkook to jump and look over at him.
"I was just going to change really quick," said Jungkook as he grabbed up the see through white v-neck t-shirt that he had picked out, slipping it on his body. "I didn't think it was a problem."
Yoongi rolled his eyes as he moved to walk towards their door.
"Shall we go down to whatever supper this is?"
Jungkook nodded as he moved to follow Yoongi out of the room. Standing outside their door was a vampire dressed head to toe in black. Neither of them knew how long the guy had been standing there waiting to usher them downstairs. The two of them walked side-by-side as they followed the attendant down the long winding stairs to the dining room.
As they entered, they were greeted with a long oak table completely covered by different animals. Each silver serving tray the dead animal was beautifully arranged on was dripping with blood; additional blood in little silver saucers about the table like gravy. The table was already full of guests. They were all dressed in black clothing with emerald red accents. Seated at the head of the table was Ellis in a throne like chair. She wore a deep maroon dress with lacy ribbons stitched all throughout it. On either side of Ellis was an empty chair for Yoongi and Jungkook.
"Gentlemen, I'm so happy that you could join us. Please come have a seat," said Ellis.
The two of them moved to sit down. Yoongi noticed a few of them hiss Jungkook's way, but Jungkook seemed unphased. Jungkook was soon seated in a chair on Ellis' right while Yoongi took up the seat on her left. Yoongi couldn't help but to wonder why they were both dressed in white since everyone else was dressed in a darker shade. It was almost as if Ellis had wanted them to stick out to the others as if they didn't already. The meal was immediately served as soon as Yoongi and Jungkook had sat down; saucers being passed about. Jungkook could tell from where he sat across the table that Yoongi didn't like the sight of all the blood dripping off everything.
"It's ketchup," said Jungkook across the table; his words drowned out to others in the din of clinking silverware and chit chat.
"Too watery," said Yoongi, grateful for Jungkook trying to help him feel better as he forced himself to take a piece of the dripping and limp meat off the platter.
"Dyed corn syrup then," he amended.
"Dyed corn syrup," repeated Yoongi with a smile.
Jungkook smiled back, taking a slice of the meat. Instead of sucking the blood out of it like everyone else at the table, he began to eat it. The only other one that had been privy to the exchange that he had just taken place had been Ellis. She smiled softly at her company, filling her plate with food but not touching it. She gave everyone assembled a few minutes to eat before rising from her chair, taping her fork against her glass.
"I'd like everyone's attention please."
Everyone immediately fell silent; eyes turning her way.
"As you might have already noticed, we have guests tonight," said Ellis. "I'm hoping that we can be civilized company and welcome them both into the fold. With the impending war, we need all the able bodied people we can find."
Jungkook turned his head to look at Ellis.
"War? What are you talking about?"
Ellis smiled at Jungkook for a moment before answering him.
"We all know that hunters are dangerous," said Ellis, "And at times we have made a point of that by hurting them just like they have hurt us. However, there are reports that there is a merman that has recently surfaced. This merman is special - not only for his good luck - but because he may be the key to allowing the hunters to cross over into another dimension."
"Another dimension?" asked one of the vampires at the end of the table. "Like another world? But that's just a myth."
"We are the stuff of myths," clarified Ellis, "And look how real we are. Another dimension is not impossible, and the fact that a merman came from the rift between is not either."
Yoongi and Jungkook exchanged a glance across the table towards each other. They knew what merman the hunters were after.
"What would happen if the hunters that are searching for the merman found this rift to another dimension?" asked Yoongi.
"They would use it to cross over to the other side themselves," said Ellis, "Bringing with them any of us they have enslaved to be able to have ultimate control."
"But why does this have to become a war?" asked Jungkook. "It seems like they just want the merman."
"It will become war because we can't let them find him," said Ellis. "So tell me, gentleman, since you're full of so many questions, do you know where we might find the merman?"
