King Elijah was a careless man. That much was clear the second he got involved with magic. He was an idiot ── didn't know that magic always came with a price. In his case, that price was the happiness and well-being of his only daughter.

He made a deal with the devil to save his own life and his kingdom. In return, a curse was thrown on his daughter Anastasia. The curse gave the misfortune of turning into a wolf every full moon. She would have to run into the woods or chain herself in the dungeons of the castle, and all of her bones would break once a month. Sure, Anastasia's senses were heightened, and she was not as defenseless as she once was, but it was still a curse rather than a blessing.

Karma caught up with Elijah soon enough and Anastasia and her brother Luther had no choice but to watch him die from an unfamiliar illness when they were fourteen and eighteen. Luther, being the only male son and therefore the rightful heir, took his father's place on the throne of Stormheart.

Anastasia did not like the way power shifted his entire personality. He used to be a sweet and gentle boy, and now she was forced to watch him become distant, cold and almost cruel. She realized that he was way past the gone on the night of her seventeenth birthday when he made an announcement that changed her life. He carelessly said that he betrothed her to a Lord that she didn't even know, and who was twice her age.

Conflict was something unfamiliar to Anastasia, so she had no clue how to call off her engagement because she had no say in the matter. She only tries to argue once ─ the night before her wedding when she talked to Elijah, who brushed her off. An hour later, Anastasia disguised herself as a man and fled her castle in the middle of the night. She left her family and her home behind because, in the end, freedom was something that she refused to lose.

The princess roamed the woods and many different kingdoms for years. She stopped hearing anything about the "missing princess of Stormheart" only a couple of months after she left because they considered her dead. Her brother gained the title of the Mad King and it only gave her a bigger reason to get as far away from Stormheart as possible.

Killian Jones ── better known as Captain Hook ── was her way out. He allowed her to join his ship ❪ with a certain price, of course ❫, despite the fact that women were not often found on pirate ships. Anastasia found sneaking out during the full moon hard when she spent most days on sea, but Hook did not seem suspicious about her sneaking out.

Anastasia fell for Hook slowly but surely. She was most definitely not his biggest fan at first and only saw him as an ally. Over the years that she spent on the Jolly Roger, she found herself seeing a side of him that was much different than a cocky and cruel captain.

Falling for a pirate proved to be a mistake when she realized that he was just as messed up as she originally thought he was. He did not care about anything other than revenge and traded her for it without thinking twice.

Anastasia was stripped away from her freedom when a sorcerer dragged her to his dungeon and started doing experiments on her. She was forced to turn over and over again despite the fact that it was rarely a full moon when she did. Hook was the reason that she was tortured for once and the second she escaped, she started chasing after him. The only thing on her mind was revenge.

Finding the Jolly Roger was hard and almost impossible due to the fact that they were only on land once or twice a month. So, Anastasia put revenge aside for a while and went back to the way she was before she even met Killian. The Enchanted Forest was gorgeous and getting involved with the royalty there was not a good plan. Meeting Prince James only proved her right.

After realizing that the men in her life only brought her pain and suffering, Anastasia decided that she needed to focus on something that was not romantic love, revenge, or running.

Well, that was her plan before the Evil Queen threw a curse on everyone in the Enchanted Forest.
