041, a novel approach

SCOTT ARRIVES at Miah's apartment after not getting a response from the blonde girl seeing the apartment dark and almost haunting his thoughts.

"Mi?" Scott shouts in a whisper seeing River asleep on the couch, Scott frowns seeing a light shining underneath Miah's bedroom door.

"Miah?" Scott voices knocking on the door opening it staring at the bright purply-red room glowing with Miah's chaos magic before seeing Miah unconscious on the floor.

"Mi!" Scott shouts not even caring if he wakes up Joel, Mack and River in the apartment─ he just wants to make sure his girlfriend is breathing.

"Baby, wake up!" Scott shrieks shaking the blonde on the floor seeing the chaos magic around the room eventually fade.

Miah shoots up from her unconscious state releasing a wailing scream startling the male beside her.

"Scott?" Miah questions confused looking at her boyfriend who's sat beside her looking at her worriedly, "Are you okay?" Scott questions urgently.

"What? Oh yeah. I'm fine." Miah responds with a nod standing up from the floor swaying due to being dizzy immediately being caught by the anxious boy staring at her still with worry.

"Are you sure? You were unconscious, baby." Scott says, "I'm just tired, Scott." Miah responds weakly climbing into her bed motioning for him to join just wanting his comfort at the moment.

Miah falls asleep with her head placed on Scott's chest oblivious to Scott wide awake staring at the ceiling in worry.

Scott frowns hearing Miah mumble something underneath her breath in german.

'Ich bin die Fee der Zerstörung und des Chaos. Massenvernichterin von Welten'.

Scott continues listening to Miah repeat the sentence over and over again before hearing his phone vibrating on Miah's bedside table awakening the blonde girl, "What's wrong?" Miah whispers groggily.

"It's the alarm at the animal clinic. I think it's a break-in." Scott explains.

"What?" Miah voices sitting up from their embrace looking at her boyfriend alarmed.

Miah and Scott rush out of the girls apartment towards the animal clinic since Scott's looking after it for Deaton while his away.

"Stiles. Someone's taking the bodies." Scott mutters through the phone when Stiles answers his phone call.

"Stiles? You there?" Scott frowns confused at the lack of response, "Yeah. Um... where? What are you talking about?" Stiles questions confused.

"I'm at the animal clinic with Miah. Tracy's body is gone. The lock on the door was broken from the outside and my mom just told me Lucas's body went missing from the morgue. They've been searching the whole hospital for it. Someone's stealing the bodies." Scott explains seeing Miah looking around the clinic alarmed.

ARRIVING AT the school walking alongside Lydia and Malia.

Miah grabs the book off the strawberry blonde looking at the cover weirdly.

"The Dread Doctors by T.R. McCammon." Lydia reads off the title of the book sharing a look with Miah.

"What?" Malia wonders noticing the looks the two Martin girls are sharing, "I don't know. There's something about it..." Lydia mumbles in response.

"Has anyone actually read it yet?" Miah questions, "Just me. And I didn't understand any of it." Malia responds.

"We should probably all read it." Lydia states, "Kira's working on that." Malia voices knowing that Kira is in the library printing off extra copies of the book.

"Stiles says he can't find anything on the author. He thinks it's a pen name." Malia explains.

"'In a small New England town, teenagers are taken in the night and buried alive, days later, they emerge transformed, wreaking havoc and spreading terror, commanded by an ancient order of parascientists know only as the Dread Doctors'. Sounds vaguely familiar. How does it end?" Miah questions after reading the blurb on the book.

"It doesn't. This is supposed to be Volume One." Malia responds, "Great." Miah sighs seeing Isaac walking towards them.

"Ike!" Miah greets with a smile, "Mims." Isaac returns the gesture looking at the book annoyed.

"Oh. Let me guess... there is no Volume Two?" Lydia questions amused, "I think we're living Volume Two." Isaac mutters looking around the corridor.

"Then maybe the real question is, is this a novel or someone's prediction?" Miah questions looking from Malia, Lydia and Isaac before walking off needing to meet Scott in the library.

Kira smiles greeting the blonde girl who pecks her boyfriend's lips, "I don't think the Dread Doctors are the ones stealing the bodies." Scott whispers quietly walking down the staircase with the two girls beside him.

Miah squints catching the scent of blood somewhere in the library, "Are we really calling them that?" Kira questions not amused.

"Think about it. They killed Tracy and walked away. They killed Lucas and walked away. Why would they leave and come back to take the bodies?" Scott asks quietly.

"Someone else has to be taking them." Miah realises, "But the bodies aren't just bodies. They're... they're failures." Scott mumbles.

"So, if the chimeras are all failures. What's the success going to be?" Kira anxiously questions looking at the couple.

"Bad. Probably really bad." Scott states opening the library doors for Miah only coming to a stop and looking around the library suspiciously.

"What's wrong?" Kira asks noticing the couple sharing the same look, "I thought I smelled blood. I don't know. Maybe not." Scott frowns.

"No. I definitely smelt and keep smelling blood. You're not the only one babe." Miah states.

Scott kisses Miah goodbye for the next few periods wanting to show the book to Theo in the locker room while Miah attends class with Malia and Lydia.

The mage hybrid frowns hearing Lydia's heart beating incredibly fast as does Malia who turns around irritated, "Why is your heart beating so fast?" Malia questions.

"Look at this. Look at the 'acknowledgements' page." Lydia whispers pushing the book towards the two girls who are also related due to both being Hale's.

"'For providing scientific perspective and invaluable insight. This book is dedicated to Dr Gabriel Valack'. Do you know him?" Malia questions while Miah looks at her cousin alarmed.

"Yeah. And I know where to find him." Lydia responds, "Eichen House." Miah mumbles in realisation, "We're going. Tonight." Lydia demands.

"Ugh. I can't... I have to study." Miah winces looking at Lydia and Malia apologetically hearing Malia also state that she's not going back to that hellhole ever again.

Miah leaves the classroom to meet up with Isaac and Scott wanting to understand the plan so she knows her friends and boyfriend are gonna be safe along with needing to show Scott something in private.

Scott and Miah arrive at the McCall household going through some things in Scott's bedroom since Miah left her favourite necklace with Scott's initial behind a few nights ago.

Miah sighs taking a seat on the males bed breathing shakily, "You sure you're okay, baby?" Scott questions hearing her shaky breathing, "Can you do me a favor?" Miah wonders.

"Of course." Scott responds, "Can you look at me with your eyes?" Miah asks lowly, "I am." Scott responds tilting his head at her.

"I mean... your other eyes. I'm gonna form a ball of my chaos magic. Just tell me what you see. Please." Miah mumbles receiving a nod in response.

Miah sighs forming a said ball of magic using her hands to help it flow through her fingers.

Scott looks at the ball of chaos magic nervously seeing the slightest bit of colour change in it.

"What? Did you see something?" Miah asks seeing Scott's eye change to his normal colour─ the colour she adores.

"Yeah. I found your necklace and you look absolutely beautiful. Everything else is fine." Scott smiles picking up the blonde's necklace handing it to her with a blush still adoring the fact she wears his initial on a chain around her neck.

Isaac and Kira walk up to Scott's bedrooms door seeing the couple sharing an embrace together.

"Sorry to interrupt. But are you ready?" Isaac questions looking at the true alpha who nods passionately kissing Miah's lips as a farewell for the night.

A LITTLE while later Scott, Stiles, Kira, Isaac and Lydia all stand out front Eichen House awaiting to be let inside.

"Hello? Anyone there?" Lydia exclaims through the intercom hoping for a response.

Scott notices Stiles leaning against his jeep remaining quiet, "Are you going to be okay in there?" Scott asks.

"Yeah. Why?" Stiles quizzed, "You just seem a little off." Scott responds, "I think we're all a little off." Stiles says with a shrug.

"Maybe some of us more than others." Scott mumbles in response looking at Kira stood by the gate beside Isaac and thinking about his girlfriend.

"Wait. What happened?" Stiles wonders confused, "When the other chimera... Lucas. When he came after us. I heard Kira say something in Japanese." Scott explains looking at his best friend.

"That doesn't sound too bad." Stiles mumbles, "She doesn't know any Japanese!" Scott utters before sighing.

"Okay, what else happened?" Stiles quizzes sensing something else is wrong.

"It's just Miah. She's changing. Pushing me away and now she's also mumbling sentences in Latin. And no... she doesn't know german." Scott explains looking at Stiles shrugging.

"Still not terrible." Stiles says, "I also think I might have stopped her from killing Lucas. Miah nearly killed him as well but snapped out of it last minute." Scott utters in response.

"Okay. Wasn't he trying to kill you, though? I mean... that just sounds like self-defence. And Miah loves you so she's most likely being extremely protective of you." Stiles mutters.

"It was more than that. I mean... she nearly took off his head and Miah's chaos magic is starting to turn black." Scott responds anxiously.

"Maybe she had no other choice? There's gotta be a point where self-defense is justified. Tracy killed her own father. And Lucas would have killed you and Miah's most likely coming into her power abilities more." Stiles responds growing irritated.

"They're not the bad guys. They're the victims. We shouldn't be killing the people we're supposed to save." Scott states firmly.

"And what it they kill someone you love in the process?" Stiles says quietly under his breath─ meaning Miah.

The entrance gate opens startling all of the friends surrounding it while walking into the creepy haunted environment around them hearing the gate snap closed behind them.

"Well. This isn't fucking creepy at all." Isaac mutters under his breath following the others into the lobby area seeing one of the nurses awaiting for their arrival with tub to dump their belongings.

"Please empty your pockets into the container." the man states, "We're here to see..." Scott starts.

"Please empty your pockets into the container." the man interjects stopping Scott from talking looking at the others who take out their belongings and place them in the tub sitting on the counter.

The man looks at Kira noticing her belt hasn't been taken off, "Please remove your belt and place it into the container." said man demands flatly towards the brunette.

"I kind of need the belt. I mean... it's crucial to the outfit." Kira responds shyly.

"Please remove your belt. Which patients will attempt to take from you and use to strangle either themselves or others." the man states tiredly.

"Right. Got it." Kira mumbles in response taking off the said belt and placing it in the container.

The man stares creepily at Lydia making Isaac take a step in front of the strawberry blonde and glare at the said man in warning.

The gate clatters beside them seeing one of the doctors who work in the building smiling at them.

"I'll remind you that I'm only doing this as a favor to Deaton. And I'm doing it against my better judgment." the doctor─ Fenris explains leading the pack of teenagers towards the closed unit.

"Hey. What's the etiquette for talking to this guy? I mean... do you ever look at the other eye?" Stiles questions.

"I wouldn't. In fact... while you're down here. Try not to make eye contact with anyone or anything." Dr Fenris warns.

"Creepy." Isaac mutters looking at the walls surrounding them.

MIAH SITS in the school's library flicking through papers and textbooks writing notes in her notebook.

"Page turner?" Theo questions taking a seat on the opposite side of the small table.

"Nope. I'm bored." Miah responds looking at the male who chuckles in response.

"Neither is this and same here." Theo responds holding up a textbook for Calculus class, "Can I join you?" Theo questions.

"Go for it. Since you know you've already sat down." Miah shrugs writing another thing in her notebook sighing loudly in annoyance and absolute boredom─ also feeling super anxious about the fact her boyfriend and best friends are at Eichen House.

Miah groans holding onto her head feeling a slight headache forming before packing up her belongings wanting to head home.

"Need a ride?" Theo offers looking Miah up and down, "No need. I can take the bus." Miah shrugs.

"Last one left an hour ago." Theo smirks amused, "Son of a bitch," Miah scoffs looking at the boy smiling up at her.

"Hurry up. Before I change my mind." Miah demands making Theo quickly nod.

"I'm driving." Miah orders holding her hands up ready to catch the keys which Theo throws towards her with a chuckle.

Miah begins driving Theo's vehicle on the highway towards her apartment ready to pass out for the night.

"We can go a little faster. If you want..." Theo suggests receiving a scowl off the blonde girl in the drivers seat.

"Um. I'm doing the speed limit." Miah states looking at the road ahead of them.

"No one does the speed limit." Theo smirks seeing the way Miah's holding the wheel.

"You also don't have to hold the wheel like that. Put your hand here. Like this. Is that better?" Theo questions, "Did you just wanna hold my hand?" Miah scoffs in response.

"Mims... I've done more than hold your hand in the past. Except Scott doesn't know about us does he?" Theo taunts seeing and feeling Miah press on the acceleration.

"Okay. I said a little faster. Not Mach 5." Theo nervously mumbles noticing the blonde speeding up a little more faster and squinting at the road ahead of her.

Said male also looks at her hands noticing the glow from her chaos magic forming in her palms.

"Miah... you okay? Hey. Slow down!" Theo demands trying to turn the wheel only for the blonde girl to press on the acceleration again going a little too fast for his liking.

"Miah. Stop! Stop the car! Stop the car!" Theo orders seeing the way Miah's chaos magic continues to glow gaining brightness the further they go down the highway.

Miah snaps back into reality pressing on the breaks and falling out of the truck crawling on the cement while experiencing extreme nausea and a ringing in her.

"Miah. Mims!" Theo calls out rushing after the blonde who glaring down the highway at absolutely nothing.

Miah continues to stare down the highway seeing figures and agonising screams coming from her mother and little brother, along with herself and her father Joel.

"Miah? Mims. Miah. Miah, come on!" Theo panics unable to snap the blonde out of her head and noticing the oncoming traffic beeping at them.

"Get up, Miah. Come on! We gotta get up! Come on!" Theo orders loudly making Miah land on top of him breathless.

"It was them." Miah whimpers in realisation, "What?" Theo frowns confused, "It was them. They were there." Miah exclaims, "Mims... who?" Theo questions.

"The Dread Doctors. They killed my mother and Lukas." Miah grunts angrily before leaning her head back on Theo's shoulder tiredly.

Unaware of the Dread Doctors breaking into Eichen House using Kira's kitsune power and Scott carrying said girl out of the place while risking himself knowing Miah cannot lose anyone else.

Theo drops Miah off at her apartment with no questions asked just letting the blonde have her moment alone since she's a little emotional finding out that the Dread Doctors had something to do with her mother and brothers brutal deaths.

While Miah is getting ready for bed she receives a text message from Isaac explaining that Scott is severely injured.

Miah doesn't hesitate in rushing out of her apartment leaving her father, Mack and River confused at her sudden departure from the apartment.

Miah's car screeches into Scott's driveway, "Where is he?" Miah shouts alarmed completely forgetting that she's been crying.

"He's upstairs, Mims." Stiles responds making the blonde nod and run upstairs seeing Scott panting on his bed unable to concentrate on healing due to his skin burning.

"Hey, hey. I'm here." Miah voices placing Scott's head in her lap so she's able to take as much pain as possible while her boyfriend sighs in relief.

"I love you." Scott whispers weakly, "I love you, Scotty. Now rest." Miah soothes running her fingernails through Scott's hair softly humming luring him into a peaceful night sleep.

Eventually sending Kira a message before going to sleep alongside her exhausted and asleep boyfriend─ also the love of her life.
