Chapter Seven

- Jungwon's pov

Confused and scared, I backed off as I looked at Jake who was on the floor, his head down as he yelled in pain. The yelling then suddenly stopped and everything went silent again. All that was heard were his heavy breaths.
"Jake, what's wrong...?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. The male looked up and my eyes widened as they met with his now red ones.
"Hello, Wonnie!"
I backed off as the male grinned. "What's gotten into you...?" I muttered, my voice low. "What do you mean?" The male asked, pausing in his spot, his face now blank. "Don't come near me" I say, trying to get up despite the pain in my leg. "Why not? I won't hurt you that much..." I gulp as the male started coming closer, his face still expressionless. "Jake, don't let me hurt you!" I warned, finally standing up. "Do it! Try to fight back!" He said, chuckling making his sharp fangs show. Breathing in as the male came closer, I shut my eyes and shot at him, throwing him back.
"Good shot!" He exclaimed getting up and turning to me. "But not good enough to stop me..." my heart skipped a beat as the male now ran towards me and got a hold of my arms. "Jake, please-" my voice cut off into a cry as the male bit into the right side of my neck.
"Please, stop!" I yelled out in pain, trying to break free from his grip. The male only held onto me tighter, ignoring my yells, as I tried fighting back. "Jake, please! I don't want to hurt you" I hissed, the male not stopping.
Jake then suddenly let go of me making me fall onto the snow-covered grass, holding the bite in pain. I looked back at him who was now on the ground too. Turning my head back I saw a hooded figure standing not too far away. "Day one, he's still thirsty" the figure removed his hood and looked up at me. My lips parted in awe as I realized it was an elf, noticing the long pointy ears.
His dark black hair was cut short. His glowing green eyes scanned me and Jake before looking down. I looked at his outfit, noticing he was wearing a cloak.
"Is he hurt?" I asked, going towards Jake. "No, he'll be awake soon. Is he your friend?" I nodded, responding to the elf's question. "I can give you some blood bags for when transforms. It might help although cause it's day one he'll most likely only drink human blood" the elf said kneeling beside Jake before getting up and looking at me.
"Julius King, you?" The male said, extending his arm for a handshake. "Yang Jungwon," I said as I shook his hand. Julius then held me up helping me balance myself onto a tree. The male looked down at my leg as I stared into his emerald green eyes. "Alexis would help you get that leg healed...hold onto me," the elf said coming up to me. "Where are we going...?" I asked as I held onto the elf's hand. "Teleporting back to the village" he responded, helping me walk as he went to Jake and carried him up with his second hand. He sure was strong...
"Close your eyes," He said, his green eyes looking at me. I nodded and shut my eyes. When I opened them I saw that we were now on another side of the forest. Small buildings filled the area, making me guess we were now at the elf village.
"You might feel a bit dizzy if this is your first time teleporting, don't worry though you'll feel better in a bit," Julius said, looking down at me as he was a bit taller than me.
"Julius! You're back already?" I looked up as I saw another elf coming towards us. "Cyra! Hey! Yeah ran into these two on the way...can you help me get them to Alexis?" The female elf paused as she looked at me and Jake. She then smiled and nodded before she brushed her blood-orange hair out of her face as she came towards us. She held onto Jake before she noticed the bite on his neck and looked up at Julius, confused.
"You can ask later, right now let's just get the two to Alexis's house," Julius said, preventing Cyra from asking anything. The female sighed before she helped carry Jake. We walked until we stopped near a small house. "Thanks, Cyra. I'll get your wildflowers later, I promise" the male said, flashing a smile to the female elf who waved before walking away.
"Why didn't you just teleport to here in the first place?" I asked Julius as he rang the bell to the house. "I would've done that but I'm not that good at teleportation. I could only teleport short distances and I didn't want us to get lost somewhere cause of my bad teleportation so, yeah" Julius replied before the door suddenly opened and another elf appeared, who I was guessing was Alexis.
"What brings you here, Julius?" The elf inside asked. "Can we come inside?" Julius asked as Alexis looked at me and Jake. The elf then bit his lip and moved out of the doorway, letting us inside.
Julius helped me get to the couch before putting Jake down next to me. "Wait here, I'll come back in a bit," Julius said before going into what seemed like the kitchen. Alexis followed him, closing the kitchen door behind them.
After a bit, the two walked out of the kitchen and came towards me and Jake. Alexis went straight to Jake, scanning the unconscious male from head to toe as he pulled him up. The elf then took a look at the bite on Jake's neck before checking his fangs.
"He still hasn't transformed back," Alexis said, letting go of Jake. The elf then looked towards me. "Yang Jungwon?" He asked, getting a nod from me. "Can I take a look?" He asked looking at my neck where I have been bitten. "Oh, yeah..." I replied turning my head so he can get a better look. The elf furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.
"He bit you twice?" Alexis asked, looking at the bites. "No...the first time was when we were at the apartment-" I answered, confusing Alexis even more as I turned back to face him. "What apartment?" He questioned, looking at Julius before looking back at me. "We got caught by the vampires...and then we escaped. Both Jake and I were bitten though..." I replied as Alexis looked at Jake. "So they're a possibility you're a half too..." he said, looking down. I shook my head. "I don't think so..." Alexis looked back at me. "What do you mean?" I looked at Jake before looking back at the elf.
"I don't think I get affected. When the first vampire bit me he drank a lot of blood. Like, to the point I think I should've been dead now. I still woke up a few hours later though"
Alexis looked down before sighing. "It's best if we keep an eye on you though. Just in case. As for your friend we can't really do anything. He'll wake up soon. He'll most likely be in human form but you don't know when he's gonna transform" the elf looked back at Julius who was sitting on the couch on the other side of the living room.
"Let's just heal your leg first...try not to move, okay? It might sting but I'll be done after a bit" he said, his hazel eyes looking at me. I nodded as the male started removing the bandages Jake had put on earlier. The male then moved the long blonde strands of hair away from his face before he placed his hand on the wound.
Moments after I felt a few stings on the wound but I just bit my bottom lip, trying not to move. After around a minute the elf removed his hand from my leg, the wound now gone. "You can walk on your own now!" Alexis exclaimed, smiling. I smiled back and thanked him before Julius got up. "Do they stay with you or do I take them both back to my place?" He asked, looking at me and Jake. "I don't have anywhere they can sleep...Natalie probably won't agree to have them here either so let them stay at yours for the night" Alexis replied. "If you need anything though, contact me" he finished as Julius walked over to Jake and carried him up. "Alright, I will. Come on, Jungwon, let's go" I nodded as I stood up and bowed at Alexis thanking him once more before we left the small house.
The walk to Julius's apartment was quiet. Despite the weird looks we got, it was fun looking around at the village.
"Don't mind them" Julius suddenly said, breaking the silence. "Sorry?" I replied, confused. "I mean the weird looks. They're at me not you" the elf explained. "Oh...why at you though?" I questioned curios. "Cause I hate humans but I'm with you" my eyes widened. "You hate humans? Why?" I asked, now more curious. "Long story that I don't have to talk about" he replied, his tone changing to an annoyed one. "Alright..." I mumbled, looking down at the floor.
Once we reached Julius's house the male opened the door and we walked into the spacious area. "I'm home!" The elf called out, putting Jake down in the living room. "You don't live alone?" I asked the male who shook his head. "I have a housemate" he answered just before another elf came out from a room. My eyes widened as I immediately recognized the elf. "You brought home visitors!" The elf exclaimed, surprised. "You look familiar," he said, scanning me from head to toe. "Uhh, yeah, you probably saw me when you came to the school a few days ago. You're Dalyon, right?" The elf smiled as I said his name. "Mhm! Weird that you brought them here though Mr. human hater" Dalyon said, looking at Julius who rolled his eyes and faked a laugh before turning to me.
"Your room will be upstairs, second door to the left" Julius said, getting a nod from me. My head turned to the couch where Jake was as I noticed him move a little. I ran over to the male once he sat up, rubbing his eyes before opening them. "Jungwon? Where am I? What happened...?" I smiled at the male before hugging him. "Hey, what's wrong?" He asked, slowly hugging me back. "I'll tell you once we're upstairs..." I said breaking the hug and getting up. The confused male looked up at the elves now even more confused. "Don't worry, I'll explain everything" I said, holding onto his hand and rushing up the stairs.
After going inside the room Julius told me to go to I shut the door behind us and sat down with Jake, who looked really puzzled. "Uhh, so..." I looked down at the floor before looking Jake in the eye again.
"You're a half-vampire"
The male's confused face switched into a dark one in a matter of seconds. "What?" Jake scoffed, his expression now angry. "No, this isn't funny Jungwon" I sighed getting up. "I'm not joking, Jake..." He got up, still in disbelief. "You even bit me..." Jake now froze in shock. "I..." he looked down as if processing everything I was saying. "That pain you were getting? Yeah, it was cause you were transforming..." I explained, my voice getting quieter with every word. I looked up at Jake who's expression was hard to read.
"Are you one too?" He suddenly asked, looking up at me. I shook my head. "Well, I don't know but I'm most likely not" I replied, locking eyes with the male who then turned around walking away from me.
"I don't want to be this...I-I didn't want to b-become this..." the male choked out before suddenly breaking down into tears. "Jake, I'm sorry-" the male cut me off by raising his hand as he turned around. "Don't a-apologize...you d-did nothing" he stuttered before I went to him and hugged him.
"I-I never asked f-for this..." I closed my eyes, knowing that I couldn't do anything but comfort him. Everything will be different now...nothing can go back to the way it was, can it?
The male held onto me tightly as he cried nonstop. "What if they take me away? What about my family? What about the others?!" He asked, pulling away from the hug. "Hey, don't worry about where you're going...for now, the both of us are staying here at Julius's. He's gonna help you! As for everyone else I'm sure nothing will be different. Please stop crying...I hate seeing you like this" I muttered, wiping some of his tears off of his cheeks with my thumb.
"You'll be safe...you'll be alright"
He hugged me again, holding back his tears. "Thank you, Jungwon" a soft smile appeared o my lips as I hugged him back.
He then pulled away and went to sit down on the bed. "Now...who is this Julius and how did we get here?" He asked before I pulled the chair from beside the desk and sat down. I then took a deep breath and explained everything from the beginning.

Dalyon looked at Julius who's gaze was on the two kids running upstairs. "Why did you help them?" He asked, making Julius look at him. "I dunno...I just did it without thinking and then I found myself teleporting them here" the elf answered, going to sit down. Dalyon looked at the floor before looking up at this housemate. "They escaped from the train right? I got a bunch of letters reporting what had happened a few hours ago" Julius nodded but he was still sort of unsure. "They said they escaped an apartment. They probably were caught by them first. Both of them have been bitten too. The taller one, Jake, he's a half now. For Jungwon he most likely doesn't get affected based on what he said" Julius explained, his eyes on Dalyon.
"It's still surprising though! Julius King! Julius King helped humans!" Dalyon called out making Julius roll his eyes. "Stop it!" He exclaimed, playfully hitting Dalyon's shoulder as he laughed a bit too.
The playful atmosphere went serious again as the two heard the students' shouts from upstairs. Julius looked down before looking up again. "Also part of day one...denial," Julius said, looking down again before looking back up. Dalyon sighed before checking the time. "We should go out searching for the other students...the humans won't be able to manage on their own," he said, going back into his office and then coming back to the living room. "Jeonghan sent me a letter earlier today saying that they'll be going out to search for students" Julius looked down, biting his bottom lip.
"The VTC..." he mumbled, his voice quiet. "What about it?" Dalyon asked, his long ears twitching. Julius looked up into Dalyon's blue eyes before he looked away again and walked towards his office. "Never mind...go save those kids or whatever. I'll be in my office if you need me" he muttered, his face now completely expressionless before he went into his office, shutting the door behind him. Dalyon shook his head and sighed. The elf then went towards the stairs, going up to check on the boys.
He knocked on the door until one of the voices inside told him to come inside. "Hey...I'll be going out. Just saying that if you need anything you can go ask Julius since he'll be staying. If you want something to eat feel free to go get yourselves something from the kitchen" Dalyon said, standing at the door. Jungwon nodded and smiled before Jake did the same. "Thank you," Jake said, smiling at the elf. Dalyon smiled back before waving and leaving the room.
Going back downstairs the elf went towards Julius's office door. Letting out a sigh he looked down before slowly knocking on the door. "If you want to talk about something, I'm here to listen you know," he said from behind the door. "I'm fine. You can leave now" the elf's reply made Dalyon sigh again before walking away, leaving the house.

- Jungwon's pov

I looked back at Jake as Dalyon shut the door behind him. "It's pretty late you should try to sleep," I said as the smile on his face faded away. "I hope they're alright...the others..." I looked down as Jake spoke. "Hey, if you want we can eat something before going to sleep?" I asked as he looked up at me. "Yeah, alright..." Jake and I both got up and left the room, heading downstairs to the kitchen where we saw Julius sitting down at the kitchen table staring at some scattered papers on it. The elf was so focused, he didn't even notice us standing at the kitchen door.
"Julius?" I called his name, making him finally notice us. "Hm?" The elf looked at us, no expression on his face. "Can we have something to eat?" I asked as he looked back down at the papers before getting up. My gaze went to Jake as the elf opened up one of the cupboards and pulled out two packets of instant noodles. He then filled a pot with water before putting it on the stove. "You can sit down at the table..." he said, looking towards us again, avoiding any eye contact.
"Is something wrong? You seem mad" I said as Jake went to take a seat. "It's none of your business" he replied rather sharply. I looked at Jake before looking back at Julius who turned around and pulled two bowls out of another cupboard. My gaze went to the scattered papers on the table, realizing that they were a bunch of newspapers.
"Where did Dalyon go?" Jake asked as Julius began pouring the noodles into the bowls. "To find more of your kind. If you're lucky we might be able to find your friends before they get murdered" Julius answered, placing the bowls in front of us before giving each of us a pair of chopsticks. "I'll be going to work in my office, so if you need me, I'll be in there. Also, don't keep the bowls in the sink, wash them" I nodded answering the male before he picked his newspapers up and walked into his office.
I looked at Jake who had already started eating before I sighed, grabbing my chopsticks and beginning to eat as well.

Julius locked his office door as he shut it behind him. Walking to his desk, he threw the newspapers onto the small couch beside him. He sat down at his desk, thoughts racing through his mind. He didn't know whose side he was on. To him, this was a game he used to play for fun but now, there was no fun. The elf cursed under his breath as he brushed his hand through his hair in frustration.
He opened the desks drawer and pulled out a scrunched-up piece of paper, examining it as he tried to deform its shape. Biting onto his bottom lip he looked down, feeling as if he had lost a battle against himself. He looked up once more as he put the piece of paper down. His eyes straight up went to the last sentence.
"Thank you for your help, Julius!"

In the middle of the forest, the five vampires were looking out for any lost students. Their plan was working seeing that they had already caught quite a good amount of people.
"Ugh, my head hurts...how much more do we need? I can't drink anymore" Kai complained, going to sit down next to a tree. "Yeonjun we can't do this on our own. With Ateez we're thirteen but I still don't think that it's enough...can't you ask for more help?" Beomgyu said, going to sit with Kai. Yeonjun sighed, brushing his hair back. "I can do that, sure... you guys keep an eye out while I'm gone" Yeonjun looked at the two sitting beside the tree. "I'm going to see Elas first," he said, sighing. "I'll go now!" The male gave the two a crooked grin before disappearing.
When Yeonjun opened his eyes again he bowed as he saw his leader. "Why are you here?" Elas asked, turning as he felt Yeonjun's presence. "We need help. We can't continue drinking by ourselves" he said, walking towards the other vampire.
"How many have you got?" The leader asked, narrowing down his eyes as Yeonjun looked down. "Around thirty maybe...? I'm not su-" The vampire's words were cut off as he was thrown to the other side of the room, hitting the wall with a groan. Elas went over to him and got a hold of his collar. "You think this is a joke? Thirty students? Only thirty?!" Elas yelled, pulling onto the male whose lips were now bleeding. "We can't drink anymore...we can't take anym-" Yeonjun tried to explain but he was cut off as his leader wrapped his hand around his neck, choking him.
"You are only here cause I helped you" Elas hissed as Yeonjun looked at him, struggling to breathe. "I don't care if you can't drink anymore! If you don't do as you're told, I swear, I'll throw you back into that training center" he continued, his grip on Yeonjun's neck only getting tighter. "I'm pretty sure you don't wanna go back there, do you?" Elas asked, locking eyes with Yeonjun who was squirming as he shut his eyes, trying to free himself. "Do you?!" Yeonjun nodded as Elas shouted.
"Good!" The male let go of Yeonjun's neck, making him cough trying to catch his breath again. "Now leave," the older said receiving a quick nod from Yeonjun. He then got up and shut his eyes before teleporting out.
When Yeonjun reappeared in front of his friends they all looked at him, confused as to why he was breathing so quickly. "Is something wrong?" Taehyun asked, going up to the male who was looking at the floor. "No...I'm fine..." he mumbled, looking up at Taehyun who kneeled beside him. "Did you get some help?" Kai asked. Yeonjun shook his head. "Huh? Why not?" Soobin tilted his head as he furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. "We have to continue on our own if we don't wanna get sent back to the training center..." Beomgyu furrowed his eyebrows. "Yeonjun what happened? What did Elas do?" Yeonjun bit his lip as he stood up, his eyes on the four. "Nothing happened...he just wants to play a game..." he started, getting confused looks from the others. He scoffed and looked down. His red eyes glowed as he looked up again.
"It's called kill or be killed"
