Chapter 2 Compadres
Kapish Singhal was chilling in his study, deep in thought, after getting a call from his best friend, Kailash Sabharwal. Amidst the other topics, his friend filled him in on his daughters. He was really concerned about the news of Alisha's return with the baby that has gone viral, and Nisha's would-be-in-laws were freaking out, afraid that their family reputation would be ruined. And they haven't forgotten to mention that if these rumours about Alisha and the illegitimate child aren't addressed, Nisha and Vikrant's upcoming wedding might be reconsidered.
His friend was experiencing a great deal of hardship in his personal life. If taking care of children was a challenging endeavour, shielding those adult children from life's challenges was even more difficult. He was well aware, since he was personally experiencing the challenges his son was facing.
He remembered back to when he and Kailash used to live in the same neighbourhood, and they were practically like one big family. Alisha, Kailash's youngest child, was Daisy's absolute favourite, no matter what kind of trouble she got into. Even then, he had a gut feeling about Alisha's personality; he was convinced that it was only a matter of time before she fell for the wrong guy and made a blunder. Kapish couldn't help but smile at his own musings. No matter the circumstances, she would always remain his favourite.
He got up from his seat and headed over to see his wife, Daisy, who was chilling in the living room, flipping through a magazine. He plopped down next to her and filled her in on the whole situation.
"Oh my goodness, we absolutely cannot allow this to happen!" Daisy anxiously said as she held his hands.
She was tight with Kailash and Uma back in college, and she absolutely loved their daughters like they were her own.
Gazing at his concerned wife, Kapish gently held her hands and reassured her, "Don't stress, sweetheart; we'll figure something out."
"We don't have time, Kapish; we need to act fast. Alie will be devastated if she discovers that Nisha's marriage fell apart because of her. Also, the threats from Nisha's in-laws will put pressure on Kailash and Uma, and they won't even bother to seek Alisha's approval before arranging her marriage with a stranger." Daisy expressed her concerns, aware of Uma's temperament.
"Yeah, I'm well aware of that. Vikrant and Nisha have been together since they graduated. She might not handle the news well."
Kapish already had a solution but was unsure about sharing it with his wife. He wasn't sure if she would approve of his suggestion or not. Anyway, he figured he'd give it a try.
"Umm, Daisy I've got a suggestion, but I gotta warn you, it's a bit challenging... I do not know if it will appeal to you, but I had this idea on a whim."
"Out with it, Kapish," she urged him intriguingly. Any solution at this moment would be welcomed. All she wanted was for her favourite Alisha to be safe.
"I was thinking of asking Kailash for Alisha's hand in marriage for our son." He stated, staring at his wife, wondering how she would react to his suggestion.
Daisy's eyes widened, completely taken aback by the suggestion. Kapish was certain that his wife would freak out any moment now, but he failed to notice the sparkle in her eyes.
So he went on to say, "I know this is a strange suggestion, but I believe it's the only option we have to keep Alie safe, and it's also the best choice for our son as well. We don't need to stress about both of them, and she'll be in good hands."
"This is such an amazing idea!" Daisy let out a high-pitched squeal. "Wow, I'd be totally thrilled if Alisha became my daughter-in-law."
Kapish locked eyes with Daisy, his eyebrows raised. At that moment, Daisy had a sudden realisation and quickly corrected herself, saying, "Oops, sorry, I meant our daughter-in-law. She's absolutely perfect for our son." Jumping excitedly from her chair, she gave her husband a big hug.
"But will our son be okay with this? You know him; he's still..." Daisy muttered in disappointment.
"Yeah, I know. But we have to give it a try. We need to convince him to embrace this; it's in his best interest and Alisha's too. Because that girl has a pure soul," he said.
"I agree with you. Alright, let's have a conversation with him and hopefully he will be on board with this. This is the best we can do for both of them." Daisy spoke with optimism.
"Good, then I guess I should reach out to Kailash and tell him not to marry her off, because we have a potential match for her. Let's have a chat with our son." Kapish responded.
"This calls for a family dinner tonight."
