The Process
Shortlist:
For Shortlist qualification, I'll look at the blurb (I don't judge a book by the cover) and first three chapters for Novels, paying close attention to grammar (minor mistakes are fine), the hook, the inciting incident, "show over tell", and good character introduction: motives, goals, etc. For Short Works, I'll judge the blurb, hook, and inciting incident.
Winners:
For Winners, I will read the whole book and pay close attention to solid plot and character development, good flow, originality (such as unique twists on popular tropes), lessons, and more. Overall, the Winners will be the books that impact my co-worker and me the most. There will be three Grand Winners out of all the entries: one for the Novel category, one for the Short Works category, and one for Poetry.
While I can't give you guys money for winning, the Winners will receive two unique stickers, a promotion on my Message Board, inclusion in my Reading Lists, an exclusive interview to be included in Tintinnabulation, and a personal recommendation to my Wattpad readers and friends.
Aside from the Winner prizes, the Grand Winners will also receive a recommendation to be included on the Wattpad Ambassador profiles (the Wattpad HQ occasionally checks those profiles for further opportunities). If interested, I can also work with them to pitch to the Wattpad Originals and give them a full book review. Just let me know, Grand Winners!
Poetry will have its own judging curriculum, similar to but not precisely like the narratives. Poetry participants will receive the same prizes, though.
