34. I don't remember

Isabella's view:

Mark takes off quickly, leaving my father and I in the dark alleyway, the world becoming a blur. I look up at my father who is holding me close to him, my head against his chest as my body shakes.

"My baby girl, I am so glad you are okay," he whispers, his voice cracking.

"Don't worry about me, Dad. I am okay. Just a few minor scratches and bruises." I smile weakly as I try to sit up.

My dad's grip tightens around me. "No, baby girl. Don't walk around. You are hurt. I'll carry you back to the car and we can take you to the hospital."

I shake my head violently, making the world spin faster and my head feel as if it has been kicked in. "No, no, no! No hospital! I'm fine, see! I am okay!"

"Baby girl," he says sternly as I feel him stand up next to me, making my body flop backwards against his legs. I feel one of his hands slide under my legs and his other hand on my back as he hauls me up.

"Ouch!" I squeal as he walks towards the light at the end of the alleyway, the pain in my back and legs screaming for mercy.

As dad walks with me out of the side-street, the street lights burn my eyes as white takes over my vision. I block my eyes with my hands, tears welling up as they sting. The familiar beeping of my dad's car alarm switching off sounds and the feeling of something warm and soft under me. I lower my arms and find I am in the backseat. A thud makes me jump and I look towards the source to find dad sitting in the front driver seat. The engine roars to life and we are off.

"Where are we going?" I ask dad, closing my eyes and opening them again.

"Where else sweetheart," he replies calmly.

The breaking and speeding up sends me swinging forward and back, the dizziness getting worse as darkness teases me, inviting me to its world.

"How did you escape baby girl?" Dad asks, knocking me back to reality.

"I don't know, dad. I... He... I just needed to escape and somehow I found strength in me and I attacked him," I replied as I look out the car window as the building fly past us, the pain stinging in my ribs and legs now.

"I'm glad you are okay, darling. We were all worried about you, even Mark. He was searching well into the night to find out and came out empty," Dad says as he hums, a smile visible on his face.

Once again, darkness creeps up on me and this time I let it win.

------------

My eyes flutter open to the brightness of a white ceiling and a large rectangular light blinds me. I lift my arm and cover my face with it. I see dark figures next to my bed, but my eyes are still trying to come into focus on where I am and how I got here.

"You're awake, sweetheart. I'm so glad. I was so worried!" my Mum's voice echos as I look towards her voice.

I shake my head and close my eyes then open them again, this time I am able to see my surroundings a little better. I see my dad standing directly next to me, red rings around his eyes, his favourite maroon shirt and dark circles under his eyes.

I then advert my gaze to the woman next to him, my mother. I notice dark circles also around her eyes, also she is wearing her favourite pink summer dress with white hearts, a smile on her face.

My eyes then wander to the rest of the room. The white tiles and blinds on the windows, the needle in my arm connected to an IV, the beeping of the heart monitor and two grey chairs in the corner of the room and a black recliner next to my bed. I sigh and sit up on the bed. The pain starts to scream at me once again from my ribs this time. I try to cross my legs, but again, I am restricted by lord knows what.

"Stay seated sweetheart, you will be okay," my dad says, his hands resting on my shoulders.

Silence fills the room and I stare at the beautiful wall across from my bed. A small while passes and the door to my right flies open with a loud bang as a man in white walks in with an ID card hanging from his pocket.

Do they not get enough of the colour white around here? Where are the dark colours?

"Hello, I am Doctor Phillip," the man greets while holding a black clipboard and a pen.

"Can I go home? Why am I strapped to these machines? What's going on?" I question, looking at the blond-haired man standing at the foot of my bed as my heart races.

"Slow down there, young lady. One thing at a time. You were dehydrated, so we had to rehydrate you with a drip. You have multiple fractures in your legs and on your upper arm. You have injuries in your ribs but we will need to ice it, but other than the mentioned you are well. A nurse will come by later in the day to take you to get further x-rays done and such." The doctor looks down at his small board, then back up at me. His lips pursed in a thin line, frown lines appearing on his forehead as he turns around and leaves the room swiftly.

"Hey! You can't leave like that. I have more questions!" I scream, leaning forward only to feel a pair of hands holding me back down.

"It's okay, sweetheart. We will get to the bottom of it," dad says, his voice soothing like a lullaby.

I grumble and sit back, folding my arms.

I hate this place! I want to go home! I don't care.

The doors burst open again and this time it wasn't a doctor but a nurse in blue long trousers with a matching shirt and a cap of some sort. She holds a plate with a cloche as she approaches me, a bright smile on her face. I notice a few strands of her brown hair come loose on her face.

"Hello. I am nurse Olympia. I have bought you some food. You must be starving. This is just some pasta, white sauce and beans." Her smile remains on her face as she places the plate down on the adjustable over-bed table and wheels it over to me.

Yuck. That looks like shit.

"Thank you. Looks delicious! Can't wait to dig in, I am hungry!" I give the nurse an equal smile.

Nurse Olympia bows a little then turns around and exits the room, leaving me to look at the awful food in front of me. I pick the fork up and play around with the food.

"Eat, darling. Not eating isn't healthy," mum says as she places her hand on my back, rubbing up and down.

An hour later, I finally force myself to eat the flavourless food while chugging down on some water.

"I bought over your phone, sweetheart. Maybe it will be a good distraction for you," mum says as she hands over my iPhone. "Your father and I have to work but we will be back to check on you later on, darling." She smiles lightly, then holds my dad's hand and walks out of the room with him.

I sit there and stare at the wall, humming.

I'm so bored!

I sigh and rest my head in my hand, then decide to unlock my phone and try to call Ethan. Instead of going through, the call made a beep sound. I sigh and shake my head.

Damn it! No reception!

Closing my eyes, I lay back and hum again. The door busts open with a loud thud, making me jump up.

"What the hell!" I shout, my hand on my heart as it beats as if it is about to jump out of my chest.
