39. Rage

Isabella's view:

I watch as Mark runs out of the venue. I do the only thing I know, and that is to chase him. I lift my dress off the ground and run as fast as my aching legs can take me. All eyes are on me and I don't care.

"Mark!" I call. My heart feels heavy, and my feet are screaming. The cool breeze hit me and almost sends me flying.

He ignores me and gets in his car and starts it. He revved his motor up and speeds off. Tears well up in my eyes as I stare at the space. Darkness fills the atmosphere and I sit on the cold, hard step.

"Hey girlie," a familiar feminine voice says from behind me.

I turn my head and look up to see a stunning blonde staring down at me. "Hey, Vienna."

"Are you okay?" She smiles and sits next to me on the step.

"I'm fine. It's just... one minute we were kissing and the next he breaks away and walks off." I force a smile and stare out at the car park.

"Has Mark ever told you him and I own a house?" Vienna's warm hand rests on my shoulder.

"No. I didn't know. He doesn't talk much about his personal life if I am being honest," I say and look at Vienna once more. Her golden eyes sparkle in the moonlight.

"Well, girlie, how about tomorrow we have a sleepover. You can come over; Mark and I will drive you there. It will be so fun!" Vienna claps her hands and jumps in her spot.

"I don't know. I just... I don't think I'd be very welcome," I say and look at her.

"Isabella, my brother likes you. It is no secret. Come on, I am sure he will agree to it. It will be so fun!" Vienna urges, her puppy eyes boring into me.

"Fine. I'll come. What time, tomorrow?" I smile, my heart feels lighter and butterflies flutter in my stomach.

"Hm." She taps her chin. "Maybe 4 P.M?"

"Sounds good." I nod and hum. "We should get back inside. Don't want to worry anyone."

We both stand up from our spot on the cold floor and walk back inside to where the party was still alive. The music blares from the speakers and everyone is dancing. My ears start to ring but I shake my head.

Mark's view:

I drive into the driveway; my car makes a loud squealing noise as I brake. My face was burning, and my mind is shouting curses at me. Why did I do that? Why did I kiss her?

I step inside the house and walk into the living room. The familiar scent of lavender greets me and I sigh. "Ethan," I call.

A blinding white light produces itself in the corner and Ethan is standing there.

"I just left the party. Talk about good timing," Ethan says and walks towards me, a big smile on his face. "What's up?"

"Uh, a lot." I scratch the back of my head and shrug.

"You are feeling guilty and confused. Talk it out, maybe it will help." Ethan sat on the arm of the sofa; his smile plastered on his face.

"You are awfully cheerful today. You need to let me borrow some. But you are right. I... I do like Isabella. I initiated a kiss. But I pulled away and left. I don't know what got over me," I confess and stare the ground.

"Don't feel bad. You probably broke the kiss because you were scared. She would find out about your secret life. Eventually, it will come out. She needs to know. You need to tell her." Ethan runs his fingers through his hair and taps his foot.

"What do you mean by 'it will come out'?" My eyebrows scrunched together, and I stared at him.

"I have said too much. I shouldn't of." He looks down and shakes his head. "I need to be careful with my words. I need to-"

"Listen here, you son of a bullet. You don't just kiss a girl and walk away like nothing," Vienna's voice rings out as her heals echo across the house.

If voices could kill, I'd be on my deathbed.

"Vienna, I can-" I start.

"No. No. Oh no. You are in trouble, Mr!" She marches into the living room and stares at me. Her eyebrows crease together. She turns to Ethan and gives a brief smile. "Hello, Ethan. Lovely to see you."

Ethan nods his head and keeps his mouth shut, which was a good choice.

"Look, Vienna. Listen to me. I do not know what got into me. Do you not think I am kicking myself over this? I hate myself for even reacting how I did, Vienna!" I growl and step forward. My blood is boiling, and my fingers were trembling. "You do not know, Vienna!"

"Well, tomorrow Isabella agreed on having a sleepover with us at our place. So, you must come. No backing out." Vienna smiled, then spins around and walks off.

"You can't do that to me," I say to the air and sigh.

"Your sister is nice," Ethan compliments and stands up. "Although just a tip." He scrunches his nose. "Avoid getting angry because I am not good at holding vampire's back."

"Ha ha, very funny. I'm dying of laughter." I roll my eyes and walk out of the room.

I close my eyes and take a deep breath in. Pain surges from my gums as my fangs enlarge, my fingertips scream as my nails grow and become sharp. I let go of my breath and open my eyes again. Ethan catches my gaze. His shoulders are tense, his eyes wide.

"I must go hunt," I say and walk out the door. The crickets that are once chirping fall silent. The cool breeze welcomes me. The fresh metallic scent of blood catches my nose. It is mine.
