Story of Hades and Persephone
Like I mentioned in synopsis, This story based loosely or its very rough adaption of this tale of Hades and Persephone.For those who want to know the tale .. here it is
Persephone, a Greek goddess known in her childhood by the name Kore (or Cora, meaning young maiden), was the only child of the union of Demeter (goddess of the bountiful harvest) and Zeus, the mighty king of the Olympians
Hades, god of the Underworld, fell in love with Persephone and wanted her as his bride. His brother Zeus consented to the marriage"or at least refused to oppose it. Yet he warned Hades that Demeter would never approve this , for she would not want her daughter spirited off to a sunless world. At Zeus's suggestion"or with his tacit understanding"Hades resolved to abduct the maiden.
Persephone was gathering flowers one day on a plain in Sicily. Hades suddenly appeared, thundering across the plain in his four-horse chariot. The god swooped down upon Persephone, scooped her up with one arm, and literally and figuratively deflowered her"leaving the plain scattered with blossoms of every color.Distraught and desperate, Demeter searched high and low for her daughter. In a fury. She destroyed lands, crops, and livestock as she bewailed the loss of her daughter.
She threatened to make the earth barren forever and thus destroy all of humankind if she did not find Persephone.After a full year of famine had plagued the earth, Zeus realized that if he allowed Demeter to persist, all of humankind would starve"leaving no one to honor and make offerings to the gods.Zeus sent a parade of gods and goddesses to Demeter to beg her to come back to Olympus and to restore fertility to the earth.
But Demeter refused to budge until her daughter stood by her side. Zeus had no choice
Hermes, Messenger of the gods summoned by Zeus, raced down to Hades to fetch Persephone. Hades shrugged compliantly and agreed to let her go. Persephone had not eaten a single thing"whether from sorrow, stubbornness"since her arrival in the Underworld. But before she left, Hades urged Persephone to appease her terrible hunger by eating a single pomegranate seed.Anyone who tastes the food of Hades must remain in the Underworld.
So this is where the tricky part comes in .In some of versions it is said that Persephone is tricked by Hades to eat pomegranate seeds, some say Persephone had willingly accepted a pomegranate offered to her by Hades. She knew full well that anyone who had eaten while in the Underworld would not be allowed to return, even a goddess -- Persephone went ahead and ate six or seven of the seeds.
Whatever is the case ...Rhea"the mother of Zeus, Demeter, and Hades"proposed a compromise . Since Persephone had eaten there, she had to dwell at least part of every year( A third of year) in the Underworld. After agreeing to the deal, Demeter restored Earth's fertility and returned to Olympus with Persephone. Each year as Persephone left to join her husband in the Underworld, Greek mythology tells us that the goddess Demeter would begin to grieve, bringing on the cold, barren winters. But a few months later Persephone, the goddess associated with awakening, would return to bring spring and its verdant growth in her wake . . . thus were the seasons established.
Part of Persephone missed her mother horribly, but another part had grown rather fond of the God Hades actually did start to fall in love with Hades and lived happily with him.
The Underworld, in Greek mythology, was the realm of the sleeping and the dead. Can one really blame Hades,for wanting a little bit of sunshine and warmth for himself down in cheerless gloom of his dark place. Persephone, goddess of the soul, is the possessor of its dark . But she is also the harbinger of spring . . . and a reminder of all the growth and hope that it brings..
So you might wonder who is Hades and Persephone in this tale .. You will find mixed shades of both of them in Swara and Sanskaar and if you observe the tale closely ..it is all about choices we make in life at various points and their consequences we have to face. Swara and Sanskaar made their choices which led to unfolding of this story and different highs and lows in their life but at the end ..its all about facing the challenges and living through them and finding your happiness and this poem on Hades and Persephone just leaves me speechless every time I read it.Have a read you will know why.

Tell me that you weren't hungry that day.
Tell me that you weren't hungry that day.
Tell me that's not what got you to stay.
Seven seeds don't seem like quite enough
Reason to leave a mother's deep love.
I want to believe you had the choice;
I was hearing more than my own voice;
That you opened the palms of your hands
To offer your heart, not meet my demands.
Convince me that you want to be here;
It's not my trick that keeps you so near.
You chose me. You love me. This is real.
No silly seven seeds sealed the deal.
Miss your mother when the door must shut;
Love and hurt when you must leave her, but—
Come back wearing our hearts on your sleeve;
Yearn to stay here, and I will believe.
No need to say; I know why you go.
I won't block your way, make a big show.
Just tell me you weren't hungry that day.
Just tell me I'm the reason you stay.
Hope you have fun knowing this tale .. I was beyond fascinated ..and this led me to write Untamed .
Thanks again
Love you all
Lucky
