an AU where vampire Katherine Pierce goes undercover as human Katherine Gilbert.

yes, as in big bad vampire Katherine realises that she doesn't want her doppelganger to suffer the same fate she did and decides to play house.

okay so i have it in my head that katherine has somehow convinced everyone that she's elena's twin sister (don't ask me how, compulsion ig?).

IMAGINE stefan's face when he realised katherine's been in mystic falls protecting elena this whole time!!

katherine could be the one who saved elena from the car crash - maybe stefan came to mystic falls later on and saw elena in the cemetery (hence he would still go to school to meet her etc etc so that plot wouldn't be too different)

katherine getting pissed at damon for feeding on people in 'her' town. damon realising she's not in the tomb.

damon's obsession with katherine being explained as being due to a sire bond - katherine frees him of this so he can move on with his life

i feel like anna would be the one causing chaos in mystic falls instead of damon because she still wants to get her mother out of the tomb

katherine having a human love interest maybe? how very vulnerable of her

katherine apologising to stefan for all the 1864 stuff when she realises she was likely the cause of his ripper-ness.

getting kidnapped with elena at the masquerade ball and taken to elijah - perhaps at this point elena isn't aware of katherine's true identity still
