BOOK ORIGINS:

Rosalyn Cartwright is a character was first seen in the first book in the Stefan's Diaries trilogy. She was engaged to Stefan after celebrating her sixteenth birthday. Stefan gave her an emerald ring which his mother had worn. Rosalyn didn't show up at the party and Stefan later found her with her throat torn out. Stefan had been in the library kissing Katherine at the time. We can assume that Katherine killed Rosalyn before the party. Rosalyn's funeral was held, and Katherine showed up, despite being the culprit. Stefan and Katherine later encountered Rosalyn's parents at the Founders' Ball, and Katherine faked being sincere to them. At the end of the book, Emily informs Stefan that Katherine murdered Rosalyn when Stefan brings up the subject.

Rosalyn Cartwright and Stefan Salvatore were childhood sweethearts. 

Rosalyn was friends with Annabelle Zhu (Pearl's daughter). They are 'close in age' (physically at least!) and Rosalyn went out of her way to welcome Annabelle to the neighbourhood when she moved to Mystic Falls with her mother. 

On Rosalyn's 16th birthday, her mother and father told her that she was to be wed to Stefan Salvatore. 

❝Rosalyn Cartwright just celebrated her sixteenth birthday. 

She's looking for a husband,❞ 

Giuseppe Salvatore gave his son one of his rare smiles, 

with the corners of his lips turned so slightly upward, 

one would think he was sneering if one did not know him well. 

❝Her father and I have been talking, and it seems the ideal union. 

She's always been quite fond of you, Stefan.❞

Part of her was relieved, she liked Stefan and it was better than the fate of some other girls in the town who had been forced to marry men much older than them. 

❝Of course Giuseppe and Mr Cartwright had been talking. 

Mr Cartwright owned the bank in town; 

if Giuseppe had an alliance with him, 

it would be easy to expand the Salvatore estate even further. 

And if they'd been talking, it was as good as done 

that Stefan and Rosalyn were to be man and wife.❞

However, Rosalyn wasn't ready for marriage. Marriage came with the expectation of children, but Rosalyn still felt like a child herself. 

❝Pretty soon, there will be young Salvatores 

all over the place. Can you picture it?❞

He swept his hands expansively over the grounds 

as if to show us just how much room 

our imaginary family would have in which to grow.

Regardless, she knew never to express these concerns. She was to do what her mother and father wished for her to do. 

Stefan proposes to Rosalyn in the spring of 1864. 

❝Rosalyn, I'd like to ask your hand in marriage. Will you do me the honour?❞ 

Seventeen-year old Stefan Salvatore said in a rush, fumbling in his suit pocket 

for the ring. He pulled out the box and knelt down in front of Rosalyn, 

staring up at her watery blue eyes. ❝For you...❞ 

Stefan mumbled, flipping open the lid and holding it out toward her. 

Rosalyn smiled, nodding repeatedly and the room burst into a smattering of applause. 

Stefan felt a hand clap down on his back, and saw Damon grinning down at him. 

❝Here...❞ Stefan took Rosalyn's tiny white hand and pushed the ring on her finger. 

It was too large, and the emerald rolled lopsidedly towards her pinkie finger. 

She looked like a child playing dress up with her mother's jewellery.

But Rosalyn didn't seem to care that the ring didn't fit. 

Instead, she held out her hand, watching as the diamonds 

captured the light of the table's candles. Immediately, a crush of women 

surrounded the teenagers, cooing over the ring. 

❝This does call for a celebration!❞Giuseppe called out. 

❝Cigars for everyone. Come here, Stefan, son! 

You've made me one proud father.❞ 

Stefan nodded shakily. It was ironic that while he'd spent his entire life 

trying to get his father's approval, what made him happiest was an act 

that made him feel dead inside. One look at Rosalyn's carefully constructed 

expression had Stefan guessing she felt the same. 

Not long after the proposal, Katherine Pierce moves to Mystic Falls. Giuseppe Salvatore opens his home to the orphan and her handmaid, Emily Bennett. 

Katherine took immediate interest in both Stefan and Damon. She was surprised to find out that Stefan was engaged to Rosalyn. 

Annabelle was concerned for her new best friend as she was a vulnerable human girl being targeted by a 400 year old vampire. 

Annabelle began to compel Rosalyn to drink her blood for protection. 

Katherine killed Rosalyn out of jealousy, not long before the town's vampire round up. However, Anna finds her and helps her complete the transition. 

In September 1864, Rosalyn is caught and put in the tomb. 

In 2009, Anna comes to town to rescue her mother and Rosalyn. 

Imagine Stefan's surprise when he finds his long-lost love in the tomb.

Both Stefan and Rosalyn tried to feel excitement, but it was tainted with cold dread seeping through their veins.❞

An insight into their childhood: ❝Daisy Emerson had hated Stefan ever since they were children, when Damon had dared him to push her into Willow Creek. [...]

She glared at him. Stefan sighed. There was no mystery or intrigue in Mystic Falls. Everyone knew everyone else. If Rosalyn and Stefan were to get married, their children would be dancing with Daisy's children. They would have the same conversations, the same jokes, the same fights. And the cycle would continue for eternity.❞

The engagement party wasn't easy on either party:  ❝Stefan,❞ Giuseppe said, clapping his hand on Stefan's shoulder, ❝Are you ready? You have everything you need?❞

❝Yes.❞He touched the ring in his breast pocket and followed him to the head of the table. Rosalyn stood next to her mother and smiled tightly at her parents. Rosalyn's eyes, still red from crying, clashed horribly with the oversized, frilly pink dress she was wearing. 

Jealousy:  It wasn't fair. Damon could act like a boy, could continue to drink and flirt as if nothing had consequence. Stefan always had done the right thing, the responsible thing, and now it felt as though he was being punished for it by being forced to become a man. Stefan was surprised by the surge of anger he felt. Instantly guilty, he tried to squelch the emotion by downing the full glass of wine to his left. After all, it wasn't Rosalyn's choice either. 

Sure, they loved each other... as much as two childhood sweethearts could. They weren't ready for marriage.

i really enjoyed Rosalyn's character in the Stefan Diaries. 

the main reason i haven't got round to writing this is because i've got to plan out how a young 'newborn' vampire oc adjusts to the 21st century. 

Rosalyn was born and brought up in a time where she must obey obey obey. imagine how scared she would be re-entering the world in 2009? and as a newly turned vampire? 

let's be real, the tomb vampires would not have helped her in the slightest while they were in the tomb.
