Stefan Salvatore is a seventeen-year-old boy reeling from the death of his mother and father. He lives at the Salvatore Boarding House with his Uncle Zach.

Elena (Gilbert? Petrova? either lol) has returned to her home in Mystic Falls to start again after 145 years of living in secret.

Stefan quickly falls for new girl Elena and she falls for him.

Their romance is complicated when he finds out that she is a vampire with a vindictive twin sister, Katherine.

Both Elena and Katherine were turned into vampires in 1864 by their lover, Damon Salvatore.

Stefan Salvatore - the grieving teenager (canon Elena)

Katherine - Elena's vindictive vampire twin sister (canon Damon)

Damon Salvatore - Turned Elena and Katherine in 1864, 'died' in a fire at Fell's Church (canon Katherine)

Caroline Forbes - Stefan's ex-girlfriend. They broke up when Stefan's parents died. (basically herself but with a bit of canon Matt)

Bonnie Bennett - the loyal best friend, torn between loyalty to Caroline and loyalty to Stefan

Matt and Tyler would probably be best friends with Stefan since childhood.

Salvatore Doppelgangers needed to break the Sun and Moon curse (but really: Klaus' hybrid curse.)

Maybe Katherine wants to bring Stefan to Klaus to gain a powerful ally?
