#69
The trek to the den of the dragons took longer than predicted. Nevertheless, we got to our destination. Or so I thought.
Starting down upon us was a giant Mountain.
"Umm, how are we going to get around this mountain?" I asked Kasit.
"We don't need to get around it JJ. Welcome to my home."
"Your home?"
"When I said they live in caves, you didn't believe me?" Wulf asked.
"This isn't a cave? It's a mountain for God's sake."
Ro laughed at my tone, ruffling my hair a little. He put his hand over my shoulder and whispered, "don't be scared JJ, I'll protect you."
Before I could reply, Dean snickered. "I doubt it."
"Don't be mean Dean," Jobber said, coming to my defense.
I threw him a thankful nod, I couldn't deal with Dean when I had a mountain of a problem in front of me.
"Please tell me there is something like a ladder to climb up."
"Ladder? Come on JJ, why would we need a ladder when we av two capable ands." Kasit replied.
Ro, still with his arm around me, reassured me it wasn't that hard. And Jody smiled at me, but before I could return it, she turned to Jobber, Enga, and Tharza with a mischievous smile and announced.
"Race you guys to the top!"
Before anyone could stop them, they exploded with battle cries and began climbing the mountain like skilled monkeys.
I could only stare in wonder as the person who had sworn to protect me just seconds ago also joined in the race shouting with excitement as he left me behind. Ro didn't take long to catch up with the other four and it wasn't long before they left my sight.
"Wow… why am I not surprised," I grumbled.
Kasit and her other two creature friends went next, and Wulf followed. I was left with Meg and Dean.
Of course, Dean looked me up and down and with a smirk, he went his way.
"Go on JJ, all you need to do is grab protruding rocks and pull yourself up, make sure your legs and hands support your weight and you will be good to go."
Yeah, let my legs support my weight, so easy right? I shouldn't worry about falling to my death. So frigging great.
I did as instructed and began to pull myself up, it wasn't a walk in the park as they made it seem, it was very difficult. After taking the first two steps, I looked up and almost fell.
How the hell was I going to go all the way.
"Come on banshee, don't tell me you're already tired."
"Shut your trap psycho."
Indeed, I was already tired, but he didn't need to know that.
Looking up at Dean, I expected him to have gone higher up, but he was only a few feet ahead of me, it almost looked like he waited intentionally.
Meg stayed behind me as I struggled, and Dean remained a few steps ahead always watching me.
"It won't do you any good to keep looking down banshee. You're almost there, just keep going."
Almost as soon as he said that. I looked down again and almost threw up. If I had made a mistake and slipped, my corpse wouldn't have been pretty.
With that thought in mind, I swallowed down my fear and looked up. My full attention was on Dean, I followed his steps closely and before I knew it, I was at the top with Dean dragging me up to a flat surface.
It took a while to catch my breath and also a long while to realize what caught everyone's attention.
The mountain had a door that opened up to a very large cave. On the canopy of the cave were crystals hanging down which gave way to natural white light and beauty.
The further we walked in, the more surprised we were.
Entering deep into the cave, it immediately transformed into a mighty underground hall. Where the Laccamees of different sizes and colors stared at us.
As we walked deeper into the cave, I felt a strange sensation; a chilling effect crawled up my spine. I didn't know what to think or do. Glancing at the captains I could tell that no one else felt it. Meg walked beside me with an indifferent look. Jody and Jobber wore curious looks but that was it. No one shivered physically as I did.
What the hell was going on? I thought.
I kept rubbing my arms to put in as much heat as I could, glancing around the cave to locate wherever the cold came from only to find Dean staring curiously at me.
I stared back. Could he feel what I felt?
He raised his eyebrow in question and I realized he didn't.
The deeper we went, the more uncomfortable I felt. It wasn't a discomfort caused by my tingles, it was very different in a way I couldn't describe.
Dean kept throwing me glances, and just when I was about to speak out. A voice beat me to it.
"Welcome, Valkyries, we av been expecting you."
I looked towards where the voice came from to see an elderly man with long red hair, the same shade as that of Kasit. His golden scales seemed to shine brighter than that of the other creatures.
"Papa," Kasit greeted with a bow. "I did as instructed."
"I didn't expect less, now take our guest to the tent, we av a lot to discuss." After speaking to his daughter, he turned to us. "Sorry, excuse my manners, I'm Agwam Jagam the ed of this den. You should all follow Kasit and get comfortable while we await our last guest."
He didn't wait for our reply and left without even a glance back.
"Well! what are you waiting for? Follow me," Kasit shouted a few feet ahead of us.
We were given fruits and roasted meat to eat. We didn't have a choice so we all ate the food with no complaints. All nine of us sat cooped up in a tent that was deep inside the cave and waited for whatever it was the headmaster had planned, and it wasn't long before we found that out.
The tent opened up and Agwam walked in, only that he wasn't alone, he came with two other people. The first person was a man with thick, blue hair and dark brown scales, he didn't look much older than thirty.
It wasn't his appearance that got us all on our feet in shock: it was the second man that walked in. His long white hair and his knowledgeable, blank eyes stared at us with warmth.
The headmaster was here, he walked in with a grace only he could possess.
"Captains!" He spoke. Then turned to me and nodded, "Jay-girl."
Happiness was all I felt. I forgot about the creepy sensation on my skin, all I could think about was how much I missed him.
But I guess he was here for business because he immediately sat down and started asking questions about why we were here.
Welcome, Mr. Spork. I believe my getti and second in command as fill you in on the recent appenings, that's why you are er." The agwam said.
"Could you get on with it already? Tell us why in the deities' name we are here?" Dean suddenly provoked.
Honestly, I was grateful for his input. I wished we could finish this quickly and leave, as my skin began breaking with sweat even though I felt cold.
To get started as fast as I could I asked the first question.
"What the hell is going on with this freaky place?"
They all turned to me at my outburst. The headmaster questioned me with his eyes but I couldn't care much. The longer we remained here the more crap I felt.
"What do you mean JJ?" The headmaster asked.
"Why is it just me that feels this strange feeling? It feels like something is trying to break my skin apart and at the same time trying to seal me together. I hate this feeling, can we get out of this place quickly?"
As the Captains stared at me confused, the agwam suddenly slapped his forehead.
"O tar! I forgot about you, you are JJ right."
Before I could respond, the headmaster grumbled, "explain."
The agwam looked to his second in command in understanding, and the blue hair dude stood up and left the tent.
"I'm sorry for that. As you know, we Laccamees av the ability to stop any supernatural from being in contact with their ability. So it is a defense mechanism for us, and any time we come in contact with someone we always block their powers."
"So, why does it affect me and no one else."
"That's because no one can block your power. Don't tell me you all aven't figured it out yet."
"Huh?"
Everyone except the headmaster, Meg, and Dean showed their surprise.
"Yes, as you know your gift stands as a shield against every other gift, which means you are immune to any danger from a power attack. "
"What? That's not true. I'm pretty confident I have been attacked countless times."
"You don't seem smart." The agwam responded.
"The reason you felt sick when you entered this den is that all the laccamees ad been trying to block your gifts, and seeing that you aven't gotten total control over it, it was making you sick. But I believe you would feel a lot better now, seeing as they av been stopped."
Saying that I realized he spoke the truth, I didn't feel sick anymore.
"Wow, JJ, you keep surprising us. It's a good thing you are our Guardian." Jody said with a wide smile.
"Yeah, about that…" the headmaster started.
"Wait, you think she is a Valkyrie Guardian?" Agwam asked.
"What? Now, what's happening?" Wulf grumbled.
"Yeah, what's happening?" I added.
