XLIII
A disastrous day passed, and it was the morning again, to my complete relief. I got up early after passing out on my bed and sleeping until dawn. Yawning, I paced the hallways in search of something to quell my boredom. My eyes flitted past the windows at the front of the building, only to see Izuku training outside. I found my lips curving up as my legs carried me to the green-haired boy.
"Hey, Midoriya. I see you're off house-arrest." He stopped glowing, his quirk deactivating to turn and look at me, a line of sweat dripping down his brow.
"Oh, (Y/N)-san. Good morning." I smiled and sat on one of the steps, hands clasped together and breath foggy from the cold atmosphere outside. The golden sun peaked over the horizon, signalling the start of a new day. I sighed and stared at the sky, the red and orange tinted clouds slowly peeling away from the purple and azure ceiling overhead.
"Do you do this every day, Izuku-kun?" I asked softly, a hand coming up to gesture at the equipment laid out. His face turned red and a nervous grin laced his features.
"Yeah, actually. I mean, I do want to get stronger, you know?" Humming, I set my hand down and laid my back on the cold concrete, goosebumps arising from the battling temperatures. Patting the spot next to me, I beckoned for the young man to sit. He followed, plopping down with a thump and exhausted gasp.
"You're so diligent," I murmured, eyes threatening to flutter shut. "I'm jealous of you." He started to sputter, incoherent words flying out of his mouth.
"Don't be! You're also really good too!" he managed to get out, rambling about my habits and what I did. I scoffed and let out a heavy breath, my chest rising and falling. "I always see you practice every night, and I hear you train in your room as well! The others really admire you, and so do I!" I laughed, amused by his worried state.
"You don't need to provide praise for me." With that, he went silent. We continued like this for a few more minutes, letting the breeze comb through our hair and slide over our skin.
"Can I ask you something?" I whispered, resting my hands on my stomach, eyes closed and brows furrowed.
"Sure." Taking a deep breath in, I let it out through my mouth, watching the vapor disappear into the air.
"How are you so good at what you do?" Deku laughed and raised his head so his eyes were directed towards the blooming sun. Curls of green hair swished with the wind as a a look of content crossed his features.
"I got here thanks to the help of many, many people whom I love dearly. It's thanks to them, that I'm here now. And I keep doing my best because of them." He then looked at me, a curious glint in his eyes. "Why do you ask? You seem a little bit anxious." My heart dropped, then started to beat, hammering at what seemed to be the pit of my stomach.
"I-It's nothing, I just wanted to know. You're one of the top students, after all." I sucked in a breath and let it out slowly, regaining my composure, face blossoming into a grin. "It's just nerves, just nerves, maybe. I didn't train yesterday, so maybe it's just that. I just wonder a bit." Midoriya chuckled and returned to gazing at the sky.
"You know, you're pretty amazing too, (Y/N)-kun." I quirked an eyebrow and glanced at him.
"Oh? How?"
"You're quirkless, yet you're here." He paused, as if to think about something distant -- some memory that I had not yet uncovered.
"You've worked so hard towards your goal, and you've finally achieved it. Instead of lying helpless and crying, you strive towards your future and shape it." His eyes sparkled, the sun's light reflecting off them, making them glimmer like emeralds. "Constantly, you inspire a lot of people, including me, and I don't think you realize that. You inspire us in ways that we can't really explain, but are humbled to hold in our hands. For all of this, you still remain so down to Earth about everything, despite compliments, despite hardships, and despite those who don't believe.
"You make them believe, (Y/N)-san -- in you. You're a hero." He turned to me and smiled, eyes creasing with comfort, a glossy finish glazing over his eyes as he blinked. I couldn't help but feel choked up.
"Thanks, Izuku-kun." The freckled boy nodded and wrapped an arm around my shoulders as I furiously wiped my eyes to rid any evidence of the tears that were previously welled up in them.
"Anytime."

After we arrived at class, Midoriya had apologized to the class regarding his actions, and sat down. I could feel the embarrassment radiating off of him, a different aura than this morning.
"Alright everyone, get in your seats. Today we have special guests coming over." Immediately upon hearing this, the class buzzed with nervous, yet excited energy. I overheard Mina and Denki whispering about who they thought it was.
"No, no, I'm telling you, it's gotta be some high-ranking hero!"
"Well I heard it's some heroes from the United States! The United States of America!" I highly doubted that, however, and just assumed they were up to their usual antics, returning my gaze to the front, where Aizawa gestured towards the door.
"They have very busy schedules, and made some time just for you all. Be respectful."
It slid open, and lo-and-behold, three figures walked in. My jaw dropped at the sight of two very, very familiar faces. I could feel blood rushing to my cheeks as my heart fell to my feet. The sound of quiet footsteps of the three people were like drums pounding against my ears, my eyes catching sight of the blue and blonde hair colors.
God, this is not good. I felt even more sick as my homeroom teacher started to explain who they were.
"These are the Big Three. UA's most promising future heroes."
Fighting the urge to groan and slap myself, I simply raised my lips in a small smile and welcomed them into our room, along with the rest of the gob-smacked class.
