RCorsini

Sapphire was lucky enough to catch up with an amazing author, RCorsini.  She is the author Sushi and Sea Lions, Perfect and WHY!?

Greetings from Lynx Pack! I am Sapphire, one of the interviewers from the Crazy Late Nighters Community. Please let me know when it would be a good time for you :)

Hello! How are you? I am actually available now if you'd like to? If not anytime after 8pm works best for me :). I should mention I'm EST.

I am fine, thank you! How about you? And great! I am also available right now. So, shall we start?

Of course.

I read one of your books and it stated you are from New York. Born and raised right?

I am! I'm a Queens girl.

That is fantastic! Okay, so moving on, we will now start the interview. What pen name and pronouns would you like to go by?

My pen name is RCorsini and you can use she.

That's nice! My first question is, when did you realize that you wanted to be a writer?

Oh! This is is a great question. So I started dabbling in writing in high school when I took a creative writing elective. My teacher told me I had some real talent, but I didn't think anything of it. Then I just kept writing. I was in the middle of a transition. I realized I didn't want to be a dancer anymore so it was then I decided I wanted to pursue writing. I went from one art to another.

That's a good change. However, by one art to another, can you kindly state what are those arts that you took?

So I actually went to a performing arts high school in New York City. I was a dance major so I spend a lot of my time in a dance studio, at least fifteen hours a week. Writing was just a hobby for me at that point because I just didn't have the time to dedicate to it. As I got further along in my program I found myself gravitating more toward writing and less toward my dance classes.

So now, you don't dance anymore? Or you still dance but spend less time?

Before quarantine I actually taught ballet! I stopped dancing for a very long time. I needed a total break from it. I eventually went back to taking classes, but just for my own personal enjoyment. Then I moved into teaching. That was great. I miss my ballerinas!

Wow! I don't know much about ballet, but from what I see in movies that kind of dance is quite hard. Well, both writing and dancing can help you express your emotions. What is the difference between them that made you pick writing?

I found ballet to be more mentally and physically exhausting. It's the constant pursuit of perfection. It's endless. Writing is more of a release. Of course you strive to be the best writer you can possibly be, but I never feel like I'm striving for something unattainable.

That is a distinct difference. How did you discover Wattpad and decide to write stories?

Some of my students read Wattpad! It was totally random that I discovered this amazing place. I was already in the process of writing my book and one of my kids was talking about this app where she reads stories. So, I was like...hmm, maybe I should try it. Let's see if anyone likes this thing I've been working on.

Hmm, I also read from one of your books that one of the stories you made and published here on Wattpad can relate to you in some ways. How does it feel that you were able to express your emotions without any restrictions?

It feels amazing! Honestly. So, like I said, writing is a release. I think I had all of these feelings and emotions bottled up inside. They had to get out, so I started writing them down. I used fiction to express myself. It helped me so much.

That kind of feeling is sooo satisfying. So when you wrote your first book on Wattpad, were you happy? Anxious? And why?

I think I was more nervous than anything. It's really putting yourself out there. I had all of these thoughts like, what if people hate it? What if they tell me I'm a horrible writer? What if they don't like the characters? The romance? It's so daunting because every story a writer tells is so personal to them. You're putting something you care about, that you created, out to the world to read and judge. It takes guts!

What did you think and tell yourself then so you could be less nervous about the matter?

It was kind of an internal push that said, if you don't do this now, you never will. So, I just took the plunge. It's easy to stay isolated when writing and to keep your work to yourself so no one ever sees it. I realized I didn't want that at all, so I had to let go and decide that it was a good nervous instead of a bad one.

You put optimism to good use! Now about writing your book, do you experience writer's block or some other problems that you encounter while writing? How do you deal with them?

Oh my God! I used to deal with this all the time. I had this idea that you needed to write a story in order, linearly, to be able to tell it. So crazy! When I realized I didn't have to do that, everything became easier. I stopped writing in order. I write what part of the story I want to, when I feel like it. Then I piece everything together to create the entire picture so that there is a flow and arch, connecting each scene. Completely rid me of writer's block.

True! I also experience that (on some points in my life) :). If there's one quality that stands out best when it comes to becoming a writer, what do you think is that one quality and why do you think that everybody, especially aspiring writers should acquire?

This might not go over well, but treat writing like another job, make a schedule for yourself. I write five days a week, at least 1500 words a day. It doesn't matter if it's great writing, bad writing, random writing, it doesn't matter. The more you write, the better you'll get at it. Re-writes and editing also count. If I'm editing or rewriting I will take a chapter a day, at least. I try to never deviate from the schedule. Even though this is something you love it takes work and dedication, just like school or your job.

Oh, that's nice! I'll put that in mind. What will the readers expect from you or for your upcoming books, if you're planning to have one?

I am working on Perfect, which is a thriller/suspense/mafia type story. I started that based on writing prompts I found online. It's just fun, full of action, plot twist, the whole thing.

But, in regards to my romance, Sushi and Sea Lions, I have a sequel in the works. I don't want to give away too much because I haven't finished posting book one yet!

That is quite bad news (that you can't give away too much) but good for those readers that hate spoilers. At least they know that the books they are reading right now have sequels! And while we are at it, if you can convey a message to your readers and fans, what would you tell them and why?

I would tell them to never give up on your dreams. It doesn't matter how long it takes to achieve them, but keep working toward them. Everyone's timeline is different. Don't compare yourself to others. You are where you need to be at this moment. I say this mostly because I wish someone had told me that at some point, instead of taking the long road to figure it out.

Aside from the ability that you can touch your nose using your tongue and you can split, what other unusual facts about you would you like your fans and readers to know?

Ha! I can pick up pennies with my toes!

Woah! That is amazing! Maybe because you used to do ballet. What is your hidden desire that you want to accomplish with writing?

I don't know if it's that hidden but I would love to be published. It would be incredible to have my book in bookstores and on amazon. Dream come true.

Dream come true indeed. If you can picture yourself 8-10 years from now, how do you see you and what quote do you think that helped you along the way?

So, possibly living in my own house, maybe married with kids. Definitely a much calmer life than I have now. Have eventually published something! I'd still be working as a teacher for sure, because I really love my job. And the quote would be, "go confidently in the direction of your dreams, live the life you imagined."

It's really inspiring RCorsini! I hope other people could also see how amazing you are :). Since you are a self-nominated writer, you know that the CLN's mascot is Lynx. What characteristic of a lynx could you relate with yourself?

When I need to, I can be a bit isolated. I'm what you call an extroverted introvert. I love people, but can get burnt out socially sometimes, so will then take time for myself. I also love the cold, weirdly enough.

Oh that's nice! Well, our interview is done! On behalf of CLN, I thank you for your time and participation <3 Until next time!

Thank you so much! You have a good night, too!
