AlySporty

Karen, from CLN, had the honor of interviewing  the lovely author, Alysporty  Aly is the author of My heart in lyrics, Parallel, Nobody and We are the virus.

I'm Karen. What name or pen name would you like to go by?

It's very nice to meet you, Karen. You can call me Alysporty or just Aly for short, doesn't really matter.

It's nice to meet you, Alysporty. When did you first start writing and what inspired you to write?

Well, if I am to be honest at first, I hated writing or reading, but I knew it was needed for school and that gave me the will to try it out. It started small, reading children books and fairytales. Oh, how I just loved a good old fairytale. As I exercised more and more, it became a habit that I will read for an hour after school. I didn't even realize it, but my imagination slowly became a show, and I started wondering and dreaming of princesses and fairies. But truly, I didn't start to love reading until I came across J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. Like any other kid I loved to imagine myself as a part of the book, and how it would have been if I could do magic. J.K. Rowling's books really inspired me to dream and to not put limits to myself or my imagination. After that a year passed and I started getting my own ideas for stories and poems, like this making the urge to write come along in my life.

J.K Rowling is an inspiration for many. How is your writing different from others?

I don't really know what to say here. I think that my imagination really makes the difference. It's weird how I haven't been completely clueless when it came to taking a particular lesson from a story. I usually had my guesses right, but I admit I can be mistaken, since every person can take a different conclusion from a story. It's not really what makes my writing different; it's what makes my stories different. I try to put a valuable lesson in every piece of writing I do, trying to make the world better and to make people understand, so that everyone can see the good part in things.

It's really great to hear that you are trying to make this world a better place with your stories. How many stories have you written, and which one is your favorite and why?

Well, I haven't really written many, since I only started to write seriously a year ago. My collection of stories are basically short stories, and some that I have written when I was very small, around second grade, I am yet to publish here on Wattpad. If you count how many books are still ongoing (though most I am waiting to finish before publishing here), you would get around four or five that I try to keep up with, and construct, though there are much more, except those are only just started. When it comes to which one is my favorite, I can't say for sure because new ideas for stories more amazing than the others are just popping in my mind; a big reason why sometimes it takes more time to finish one, science I am debating whether or not to abandon it, though many times it's just postponed.

That's impressive that you have written stories in second grade. At least with ideas always popping into your head, you'll never be without a story to write. How do you come up with ideas for your stories?

It's no science, if any people are wondering. Getting an idea for a story does take me almost an hour, since I usually play the beginning of it in my head. I know that my head goes into the clouds many times, but I can't really help it. The time when I get most of my ideas is at night, because it takes me a few hours to fall asleep, and because of that I try to make the best of my time by thinking. Usually I try to start a dream, and just think of a storyline. Sometimes it's not very original, and many times the ideas are weird, but I still manage to select what I want to dream. After that I just go with the flow, not knowing where my imagination leads exactly, and play as one of the characters in the story. This is basically how I got my latest idea for a book, that I hope I will start writing soon.

That's wonderful that you can help select what you dream. And I agree with you that most good ideas come at night. Do you relate to any of your characters and in what way?

When it comes to my characters, I think of them as individuals in real life. Some of them are the simple result of my knowledge of people and my imagination, while most characters are very similar to people in my life right now. Many of the personality traits of my characters come from persons I met through my journeys . Because of my process of coming up with a story, sometimes the main character or just a person in the story will have similar traits to mine ( in personality or looks). Stories are my escape from the real world, and as such sometimes one of the characters will actually be an alter ego of me, or another version of myself in a different world or in a different setting.

I believe many people would agree with you that stories are an escape from the real world. Also, by relating to your characters it helps the reader relate to the characters. Do you have a favorite character and what makes them your favorite character?

No. The answer is as simple as that. I don't have a favorite character because as their creator, I feel like a part of my soul is in each and every one of them, even if each is different in their own way, just like real people. My characters are all wonderful, and their differences just make them stand out more and be more liked.

I'm sure it shows in your stories how much you care for each of your characters. How do you overcome writer's block?

To say the truth, sometimes I feel very hopeless towards my stories. There are so many talented writers out there and here on Wattpad, so sometimes I just wonder why I am even doing this. Then I remind myself that everyone has their own doubts and problems, and that each person can share a valuable thing, in this case a valuable story. It doesn't matter how many times you failed, because one day (sooner or later) people are going to start recognizing your hard work and you never gave up. When I am really doubtful, I remind myself that just because Harry Potter wasn't accepted by the first publisher, that didn't mean J.K. Rowling gave up. She tried again, and again until she succeeded. I overcome writer's block by reminding myself that giving up is never an option.

Many can relate to you, and you have a very good outlook towards it. What are your strengths and weaknesses as a writer?

I don't know what to say about strengths, but I know that my greatest weaknesses are writer's block and the fear of not succeeding. It has always been this way. I have always tried to overcome them, but they keep coming back at the worst time and moments, just like some villains from stories. If you think about it, self-doubt is truly a villain sometimes in life, but the best you can do is fight it, by reminding yourself how it felt to be strong, and that everyone's important.

Indeed self-doubt is, but with your passion I'm sure you will overcome it every time. What do you want to accomplish as a writer?

Thank you for the kind words. Now, to answer your question... I don't really know at the moment. At least not entirely. Writing, as much as I love it, has and maybe it will always be a hobby. I don't know what my destiny is, but I want to help people and do something great in my life. I want to change the world for the better, little by little. I don't know how it will be in a few years, but I know that until then I'll try to help people, or at least make their days brighter, through writing.

I admire how much you want to make the world a better place. What writers on Wattpad have inspired you?

There are so many wonderful people on Wattpad that I have met. My followers, though I don't know them personally, are very amazing people. I can tell as much from their stories and posts. So to name a few, thepurplerose, WedgeTailedEagle, maddiashatter, Lovewinx101, ellaloredo, Scarlets_and_Roses  and RubixCube89201.  All of them and more are gorgeous writers.

I bet they are wonderful, and I'll check them out. Our Mascot in CLN is the lynx because it is nocturnal like most of our staff members. What nocturnal animal would you choose to be and why?

Well, my favorite nocturnal animals have to be the owl and the fox. They are both very beautiful creatures, and their grace and intelligence amaze me.

The owl is a very popular choice amongst people. As it says in our name, Crazy Late Nighters, we are a bit crazy. Would you consider yourself crazy and if so why?

When it comes to my schedule, I am a late nighter most of the time, and if you're referring to my sense of humor...well, it is indeed a little strange. Everyone has a little wild and crazy side, and I am no exception.

Being crazing can be fun. If your life was made into a book, what would the title be and why?

If my life would be made into a book, it's title would be "Destiny" , because over the course of my life, I always asked myself, " What am I supposed to do in life? What am I meant to be? Can I actually change things or not? What is my destiny?" And to be honest with you, I actually don't know for sure the answers, and I am yet to find out when I'm older. My life has really taken some twists and turns in a few unsuspected ways, and while I am trying to figure out who I am, I am also trying to find out who I am supposed to be. Everyone has a path to follow, but we chose which one.

'Destiny' is a fitting title and sounds like a good book. If you could ask any famous author one question, who and what would it be?

For me, I always wanted to ask J.K. Rowling how she had so much patience while writing the Harry Potter series. I know patience is a virtue, but for me it's kind of difficult to master. I like things to be done quickly, because sometimes you don't have all the time in the world.

You're right patience is a virtue, but like you, I prefer to have things done quickly. How do you feel when someone comments or votes on your stories?

I actually would like to thank everyone that has commented and voted. I have tried to answer each comment on my stories, so that people know how much I appreciate all their support. When I got my first actual vote and read, I felt like the happiest person alive, because nobody other than my family and classmates have read and told their opinions on my stories before, and I didn't think anyone actually would. I thank not only the people who support me and my writing, but also the ones that were brave enough to share their constructive criticism on my stories. I really thank them all from the heart because they didn't just make my day amazing, but also helped me grow more as a writer.

I'm sure you readers appreciate you responding to their comments. How do you deal with comments that are rude or ugly?

Well, I already know that no person is perfect, especially not me, so the best thing to do is take it as constructive criticism. Everyone has something to learn or perfect, so when someone actually cares enough to tell you your mistake, I don't necessarily take it badly, though I encourage people to say their thoughts in a nice and polite manner.

Constructive criticism is the best way to grow as a writer. So, I have one final question for you. What is something that you would like to tell all of your readers and followers?

Hmm... well, as my final message, I must tell them that no matter what obstacles you have in your way (in life or in writing), never give up your goals and dare to dream big. I must also thank them, because without readers, a writer and a story are nothing. Without readers, a story isn't really important. Also, to the new aspiring writers, remember that the best of the best, had started as small as you, once. Everyone starts somewhere, what matters is to keep going. Take your time, because , even if time is precious, better make things right than fast and wrong.

Those are very wise words and something we should all think about. Thank you so much Alysporty, for allowing me to interview you. The entire Lynx pack thanks you too!

Thank you very much, for interviewing me, as well as just having me here in the book. I read your pieces of writing, and I must say they are amazing and that you have real talent. Thank you very much! It matters a lot to me. :) Have a great rest of the day, too!

Thank you! That means a lot!
