Enig, from CLN, had the pleasure of interviewing the talented author, pricelessjew. She is the author of several books on Wattpad including My Sinful Past, Sacrificies, My Evil Twin, and several more.
Hello pricelessjew I'm Enig, an interviewer from the Crazy Late Nighters Community. You were nominated by one of your devoted readers, InfinityLM44 and I'm sure she/he would love to know your thoughts as a writer! I hope you're interested!
Yes, I am, and I'm ready now.
Before we begin, what would you like me to call you and what pronouns would you prefer to go by?
Pricelessjew and she/her.
Hello Pricelessjew, I hope you're doing well. Let us begin with the core of your career; why did you first begin writing?
First of all: I want to say thank you for doing this, I appreciate it a lot and secondly, I was inspired by many authors here. The first time I came on Wattpad was in the November of 2019. I only came to read, since my English sucks. But I am a lover of novels and stories, so I thought of giving it a shot and that's it, I'm writing now!
That's quite lovely to hear, and I'm sure that all of your readers are glad you took that leap! What was your very first project?
The Prince and His Servant Boy. Though it wasn't an entertaining story, I'm glad it got many reads. And after writing it, I grew eager to continue and now I have many stories, both completed and ongoing ones
I'm happy that you did! I must say that it is quite a suggestive title. May I know what the inspiration for The Prince and His Servant Boy was?
Hmm, to be honest, I didn't have a particular inspiration for the story. At one point, I was going to delete it but something in me kept pushing me to continue, saying, you can do this, and now, I am doing it.
Wow, your perseverance is incredible! So moving on, do you have a specific writing style?
Well, I don't have a specific writing style, I use anything that goes with the flow of my stories and secondly, I love Mpreg stories and anguish. Those are my forte!
I enjoy anguish stories too, they're so sweet and heartbreaking! Why do you prefer writing these themes?
My stories are mostly based on true-life stories, and we all know life sucks. I share what's happening with the world and advise them to be careful. I don't believe in fantasy, I believe in reality, so I write real stories and yeah, I love anguish.
Interesting point of view, I must admit. And may I ask how you come up with your titles?
When I first come up with the story, I'll first look into the story plotline, like the emotions attached to the story. Is the story sad, happy or painful? That way, I'll get the title I'm looking for. Like my story "The Sinful Past" it deals with the sins of the past and that's how I came up with the name, the Sinful past.
I must say, it sounds like a rather tough process! But considering the amount of research you put in for your stories, how long does it take for you to write a chapter?
It's really difficult to write because sometimes I forget my ideas and have no clue how to continue the stories. When this occurs, I leave the chapter and clear my mind, maybe indulge myself with other books and from there, the idea swoops in. Sometimes, when I haven't been able to update the story in a while, I'll go out and it sounds funny because once I step out, I'll immediately get the idea I need to continue the story. Seriously, it's not easy. I'll think and think and still won't find the idea I'm looking for but eventually, I'll get something down. That's why whenever my readers put down my work, it makes me sad that they don't understand the stress I'm going through while writing it.
Seriously, their comments sometimes are so f*cking annoying, it makes me want to delete my book. I'm an emotional person and very temperamental, I don't like shitty comments, it makes me mad.
I'm sure everyone faces it and let me just say you're not alone in getting irritated about certain comments, especially when you worked so hard on something! But that simply brings me to my next question, how do you take comments?
Sometimes I laugh at them but let me share this secret of mine, it's called: ignoring the annoying comments, deleting it if it pissed me off and lastly, block the motherf*cker who commented if they continue annoying me. That's how I handle it these days, I won't take that negativity anymore. I'm writing fandoms for now and later, I'm planning on writing and creating my characters, I don't want a situation whereby after I finally write them, some ungrateful people will come and make me mad, so I better start kicking them out now than later.
That's a very bold move but it is good that you value your story above all else! This is a highly commendable trait. Well, Princessjew, would you say you have an interesting writing quirk?
Well, I can't tell but my readers will confirm it for me. You know, I can't tell if I even have one, so I'll leave that to my readers to decide. Just hope I give them what they want, that's all I can say.
I don't have a response to this... your faith in your readers is so touching. Well, at least I find it so. What has your family said about your writing?
They're like: what the hell, gay stories? And I was like, yeah, because that's what I enjoy writing. Though, I'm planning on writing all types of stories; gay, bisexual, normal and even lesbian stories. I think I'm a freak!
No, you're not a freak, you're just another unique human being! Besides, I'm sure the LGBTQ+ community would be more than grateful to you for being supportive of their respective sexualities! What do your friends say about your writing?
The first time I introduced one of them to my book, she was like 'Oh my god, how did you come up with this? And how can you write sex scenes shamelessly? I was like 'Oh!' And the next thing I heard was 'I love it! Since then, my friends have been so supportive and their motivational words encourage me to write more. When I first started writing, there was this author that helped me and she has supported many others as well. All my friends are one of my inspirations that made me write more. I'm grateful to them.
That's so sweet of your friends! Do they ever help by giving you ideas when you're stuck?
Yes, they always do, they're great friends to me especially amytulip. She's a good friend and always helps me with ideas whenever I run out of them. I'm grateful to all of them
Well, please pass on my well-wishes to your friends, they sound like such amazing people! It almost slipped my mind, I'm interested in hearing about the most surprising things you learned when you first began writing!
To be sincere, my readers, when I first start writing, I wasn't expecting anyone to read my book, seriously, back then, my English sucks but with time, I improve and I'm happy I can write very well now, not perfectly, but I'm trying and I'm still learning. Writing is not easy, sometimes I fell sick while thinking of ideas. But I'm grateful to my readers, they're the reason why I continue learning, to make I and them proud. And secondly, the tags, I don't know what tag mean on Wattpad, it might sound funny, but I don't, I only know what tag means but not on Wattpad. Seriously there are many of them and I'm happy I overcome those things.
I'm happy for you as well! I wanted to know whether you tend to relate with any of your characters on an emotional basis?
My male lead, Wang Yibo and my female leads Xiao Zhan, especially the one I use as my female lead. Xiao Zhan, his roll is amazing and touching. He gives me what I want in my stories. The two are my best C-pop, I love the emotions they give me in my stories. They're well played and portrayed.
I see. I'm surprised to see that you connect with not only the male characters as well but each to their own! That's something I wish I could do! Are you planning on any other projects?
I'm still thinking about it. I want to try something new but each time I try I fail since I ran out of ideas. But yeah I'm planning a new fanfiction. All I believe is one day, I'll be able to write something on my own, create characters of my own.
For some reason, I always feel so awkward with fanfiction. But I'd still like to know what fandom you are planning to use.
For now still YiZhan, but I'm planning on writing something new soon. Just that whenever I think about it, I'll get confused about the location, the settings, almost everything! Hopefully, it will come to me soon!
I bet a lot of people hope you do, too! PricelessJew, for you, what was the biggest obstacle in getting your writing out?
My English, I suck in English because it isn't my first language. But with time, I learned and I'm still learning. Sometimes, I'd get a comment asking what the hell are you writing, I don't understand this ... I'm out. I feel bad then and I'm surprised when they return to read my books. It was an obstacle then and remains my biggest challenge.
Oh well, language can be touched up and it is never a barrier in awesome stories! What is your work schedule like for updates and such?
I don't have any specific time since I'm a busy person. I update whenever possible and make sure I update to keep my readers happy. But sometimes they're just too much, always asking for updates. If it wasn't for this quarantine, I would've been in school, and updating would have become even more difficult, but I'm trying the very best I can because I like making my readers happy!
I understand that a writer is only happy when their readers are happy! How were you used to spending your time before you started writing?
I'd read mostly. Sometimes, I'd get ideas during reading and I'd jot it down. It took me a while to actually shape my ideas into stories, but here I am!
Ah, reading is a common hobby and, in my opinion, the best! So PricelessJew, what do you think makes a good story?
The emotions, the plot and the settings. The theme and the background. Once a story has a good start, it will be a starting point and will initiate a good impact on that story.
I like the way you think! What would you tell other aspiring authors in the beginning stages of their career?
For now, I don't count myself as the best author, I'm still a beginner too. But I'll tell them to focus on what they want to write and don't look back or think they're not good. Once you tell yourself you can do it, you will do it. So they should focus and have courage, they'll be the best, even better than the greatest authors we all know!
That's a wonderful message, and I'm sure many people will get newfound motivation from your words! And would you like to leave a message for the reader who nominated you?
I want to wish him/her thanks! He/She is also an amazing writer and an inspiring one at that! She/He's good with writing and I appreciate the nomination that has allowed me to express my feelings and reminisce the old days. It is a very good opportunity! And thanks to the CLN community as well for this wonderful privilege! I appreciate it a lot. Keep up the good work!
That's such a touching message and we'll be sure to pass it on! But before you leave, do you have any characteristics that make you similar to a Lynx, the CLN community's animal?
None, yours is so different, well Lion ... roars!!!
That's funny! Well, thank you so much for your dedication towards this interview PricelessJew. I hope you continue writing for all your avid readers. Until next time!
Thank you, it was a great privilege and feel free to ask me more anytime!
I'm glad to hear that! And I wish you all the best with your writing!
