Chapter Two

~Miki's POV~

Flashback: (Miki Age 14, Shota and Hizashi Age 28)

I woke up feeling strange. My stomach hurt, it was a new kind of hurt I'd never felt before like someone was gripping my insides and trying to rearrange them. Everything felt tight and uncomfortable. I decided to stay in bed as I didn't know what was wrong, my stomach hurt, I had a headache and I had the strongest craving for chocolate I'd ever had in my entire life.

There was a soft knock on my bedroom door, "Miki-chan?" My older brother's voice sounded from the other side. The door opened and he poked his head through, "huh, you're still in bed, that's not like you." He frowned and moved closer.

He took a seat on the edge of my bed and pressed his hand to my forehead to check my temperature. After a moment he frowned. For some reason, I felt irritable. Normally I loved my brother being doting, but for some reason I really just wanted him to go away. I swatted his hand away and rolled over before burying myself in blankets.

"Miki-chan, what's wrong, do we need to go to the hospital?" A small whiteboard and dry erase marker slid under the covers and nearly smacked me in the face.

I felt a spark of irritability hit me again and chucked the whiteboard across the room.

"EEP! Shota! Miki-chan hates me!" Hizashi cried dramatically.

"Oh good, she finally discovered how annoying you are." Shota grumbled from the hallway being lured in by Hizashi's wailing.

"This isn't funny!" Hizashi panicked, "something's wrong! I think she's sick." He reached under the covers and tried to fish me out.

It took every ounce of willpower I had to keep from using my voice to snap at him. I smacked his hands away from me and tried to scoot away from him. His loud voice and constant pestering were making my headache worse. He wasn't giving up. I felt a familiar sensation wash over me and realized Shota must have erased my quirk so I could tell them what was wrong.

"I don't feel good and I just want to be left alone." I said quietly burying myself deeper into my blanket fort.

"Are you sick? How bad is it?" Hizashi was in panic mode.

I felt the familiar sensation, "I'm fine, it's just a stomachache."

"Nii-chan can rub your belly-."

"Because that's not weird." Shota poked at him. I managed a peek outside the blankets and saw Shota with a thoughtful expression on his face. He marched over and caught Hizashi by the back of his grungy band t-shirt, "come on, Sister Complex, just let her sleep."

After they left, I managed to nap a little longer before the pain in my stomach became too much for me to ignore. I went to the bathroom and made a horrifying discovery. I'd started my period. Internally, I panicked. We'd learned about them in health class and the school had given out sample pads and tampons. The tampon seemed somewhat complicated and uncomfortable so I opted for the thin pantyliners. They'd only given us two, at school. I felt my face grow hot as I realized I'd have to ask Hizashi to take me to the store for more.

I changed into some comfy sweatpants and an oversized sweatshirt before picking up my whiteboard. I shuffled into the living room and hurriedly scribbled down, 'I started my period, can you take me to the store?'. Hizashi and Shota were watching the news and both looked up as I entered the living room.

"Miki-chan!" Hizashi beamed.

I tried to motion for him to come to me, subtly. My brother seemed incapable of picking up subtlety as he stared at me blankly trying to figure out what I was doing.

"You want to play charades?" He asked confused.

Shota reached over and smacked him upside the head, "idiot, she obviously wants you to go over there." He growled in annoyance.

"Oh." Hizashi chuckled and bounded toward me, "what's wrong Miki-chan?" He attempted to hug me but I managed to side step him in time not sure my stomach could handle one of his squeezes. I shakily handed him the whiteboard. He looked at it for a moment before all the color drained from his face and his eyes grew wide as saucers. "P-P-PERIOD?!"

Shota and I both winced and covered our ears as Hizashi's voice boomed loud enough the entire block heard him clearly, much to my embarrassment. I smacked him with the whiteboard out of pure frustration and escaped to my bedroom to die from mortification.

"You moron." I heard Shota's voice from the living room before the sound of his footsteps drew nearer. A moment later there was a knock on my bedroom door. It opened before I had a chance to lock it and I nearly smacked face first into Shota. He handed me my whiteboard back, "come on, I'll take you to the store."

My face was an unflattering shade of lobster red by this point and I frantically shook my head while contemplating hiding in my closet until menopause hit and I never had to worry about periods again.

"It's me or the idiot, I guarantee he'll traumatize you." Shota made a valid argument.

I gave in and followed him out the door. Hizashi was still having some kind of existential crisis and didn't notice as we left the apartment. A few people in the apartment complex who had heard my brother scream 'period' and decided to investigate poked their heads out of their doors. A few women offered me horrifically embarrassing words of encouragement. I buried my bright red face behind my long honey golden hair. Once we managed to get a block away people stopped noticing and offering me period advice.

Shota offered me a sympathetic look. "We could get some chocolate cake on our way back home." He indicated a cute little bakery and sweet shop that had just opened up a few weeks ago as we passed by.

I blushed and bowed my head in an attempt to hide more.

We reached a small convenience store and Shota paused, looking somewhat thoughtful. "Do you know what you need?" He asked me curiously.

I didn't but I was too embarrassed to say otherwise and nodded furiously.

"Alright, I'll meet you at the register then." He ruffled my hair and disappeared down one of the aisles.

I frowned and fixed my messed-up hair before wandering to the feminine hygiene aisle. There was an entire aisle filled with various pads, tampons and other things I didn't quite understand. I felt somewhat lost as I looked at all the brightly colored boxes. Why did they have to be so bright? I felt like the moment I picked one up the box was going to start screaming 'period alert' or 'look out menstrual rage coming through'. After scanning various boxes, I found one that had a picture that had similar thin pantyliners like the ones the school had given out as samples on it and grabbed the bright green box.

Feeling thoroughly humiliated, I tried to hide the majority of the box with my body and scrambled in the direction of the registers. Shota was waiting with a bag of purchases already in hand. He chose to ignore my very obvious attempt to hide the box in my hands and calmly walked me to the register.

The checkout experience was surprisingly painless. The clerk even made sure the bag wasn't see-through before handing it back to me. I felt a little less humiliated as we left the convenience store. We stopped and got some chocolate cake and a few other pastries at the new bakery and sweet shop before returning to the apartment. Before we stepped inside the apartment, Shota handed me the bag of things he'd purchased before I'd met him at the register.

I threw him a curious look but he didn't say anything. He opened the door and before I could try to question him, Hizashi nearly tackled me with a hug. With Shota's help, I managed to disentangle myself from my brother and retreat to my room. The bag Shota had given me had some chocolates, a small Hello Kitty plush and some ginger tea inside.

Present: (Miki Age 15 Shota and Hizashi Age 30)

I woke up in a blissfully warm embrace. My hand was resting on a taut chest and I found myself sidled up next to a warm body with a strong arm wrapped around me cradling me against them. The second thing I noticed, was I no longer had my Hello Kitty plush. Slowly, I opened my eyes and felt my entire body burn with the heat of embarrassment as I realized I was snuggled up next to Shota.

I tried to peel myself away from him, but his grip was too strong, I couldn't break free. He slept soundly not the least bit bothered by my struggle. I turned my head to see my older brother, Hizashi, hogging all the blankets and snuggling my Hello Kitty plush in his sleep. He was snoring quietly. His bright blonde hair that was usually styled in a way that defied the laws of gravity was flat and in a messy bun with a few stray strands sprawled out across all the pillows he'd stolen.

Shota's grip on me tightened, pulling me so close I felt like I was molded against his lean torso. I sucked in a deep breath and froze up next to him too afraid to move. He rolled slightly, so he was facing me causing his unruly shoulder length black as night hair to fall into his face. As his hair began to tickle his nose, he stirred awake. His tired bloodshot eyes widened as he spotted me tucked tightly against him. He released me from his hold and glanced over to see Hizashi hogging all the pillows and blankets.

"Idiot." He grumbled and reached over me, he easily pulled my Hello Kitty plush from Hizashi's grip and handed it to me before affectionately ruffling my hair. "Go get ready for school, I'll make breakfast."

I hugged my plush close and scrambled back to my own bedroom to shower and get ready for school. My body still felt like it was on fire. Shota was my brother's oldest and closest friend, I'd known him my whole life, but I felt weird around him lately and I didn't understand why. It had started shortly after I'd gotten my first period, not only was Shota there when it happened but he'd taken me to the store to get all my period products, it was mortifying.

Some of the girls in middle school teased me after Shota came to pick me up early from school. He'd had a lot more free-time last year after expelling his entire class of first years and picked me up when I wasn't feeling well one day. I wasn't sure what I'd done but I must have revealed something on my face when he'd come to get me as they teased me mercilessly about wanting to date older men. Ever since then, I found it somewhat hard to face him without getting flustered. Because of their teasing, I'd entertained the idea and realized, I really did like Shota. He gave me a voice when I had none and he always looked out for me.

After a quick shower, I changed into my school uniform. It consisted of a knee length tan pleated skirt, a plain white long sleeve button up top with a red ribbon tie, and a simple tan colored jacket. Shota was finishing up breakfast when I shuffled into the dining room. I felt something soft brush against my bare legs and smiled down at Grey, the housecat, as he circled me and brushed up against my legs purring loudly.

I scooped up the grey housecat and smiled as he purred louder and gave me affectionate headbutts. Shota looked up from his cooking and smiled as he noticed me snuggling Grey. "Breakfast is almost ready, will you set the table?"

I nodded and gave Grey a kiss atop his head before setting him down and going to get the dishes to set the table. Grey ran under my feet as I stepped into the kitchen and I tripped as I tried to avoid stepping on him. Shota caught me reflexively before shooing Grey out of the kitchen with a single look.

"You okay?" He asked me worried as my entire body burned at our sudden closeness.

I nodded frantically and rocketed away from him the moment he released me. I could feel his tired eyes following me as I scrambled to set the table and avoid looking at him. He frowned but decided against questioning me further. We sat down to breakfast as Hizashi stumbled into the kitchen with a yawn. His long golden blonde hair was in a very messy bun and a few stray strands were sticking up at odd angles. He'd found a pair of orange lensed triangular framed glasses on the way from Shota's room to the kitchen and put them on looking a little ridiculous in his worn out sweat pants and grungy band tee.

He smiled as he spotted me and kissed the top of my head before dropping into the seat next to me, "Good morning, Miki-chan."

I felt my quirk being erased and glanced over at Shota to find his black as night hair standing on end and his eyes faintly glowing red as he used his quirk to erase mine. My cheeks reddened, as much as I appreciated him giving me a voice, I didn't like that he had to use his quirk to do it, his quirk always dried out his eyes. "Good morning, Nii-chan."

Hizashi smiled, "Miki-chan really is the cutest." He started piling food onto my plate, "did you sleep okay last night?"

I felt my heart skip a beat as I remembered how I'd woken up this morning. My cheeks burned and I hurriedly nodded my head hoping he'd drop the subject. Breakfast was pretty quiet, especially since Hizashi started to doze off and nearly nose dived into his plate but I managed to push it out of the way in time.

Shota offered to walk me to the station once it was time for me to leave for school. I awkwardly refused and ran away from him, unable to look at him without thinking about how I'd been snuggled up next to him when I'd woken up.
