Good Night pt. 1

It was a spring day.

The scented flowers bloomed with the trees, a pack of soft colours to decorate the dark cruel world like  paint on an empty black canvas.

Jin was driving his car with the others at the back. Hoseok, Handong, Yoohyeon, Namjoon, Jungkook and Gahyeon was in Jin's car while the others are with Yoongi in another car.

They drive passed the blossoming flowers at the side of the long road, petals falling gracefully onto the bitumen. The flowers formed a thick straight line as they speed up.

Hoseok stared at his wrist where the death mark was printed on his skin. After the escape, the black mark was peeling off into black flakes before it flew into the air towards the fire. As if the book was giving him a chance to live, and he did.

It took 2 hours to reach their destination. An abandoned place that were left alone once again.

Jin and Yoongi parked their car in front of the lavender field side by side, burnt woods and other materials were left unharmed on the empty land. They forgot how the house actually looks like, and the decomposed state itself doesn't help them to remember.

"It's been two years...", Namjoon sighed, leaning against the window. Yoohyeon, who sit behind Namjoon, leaned forward to take a good look at the burnt structure.

It takes less than a year for Namjoon and Yoohyeon to break out of their shells and forgive each other. Which is something that everyone knows No Name wants.

Hoseok contemplated the empty memories in front of his eyes, as if he sees the life in someone's empty eyes. He remembers the first time he met her at the basement, where she shouldn't have been in the first place.

"I feel bad", he blurted.

"Why?"

"We're visiting her after two years. I don't want her to feel abandoned", he expressed sadly.

Namjoon couldn't say anything next. It was difficult to ask for a simultaneous break with Dreamcatcher. Today and tomorrow was their only chance.

"It was crazy that time. I'm glad it's already over", he said. "We're still alive, breathing and do other human things. And yet, she's gone", Hoseok croaked.

Yoohyeon exhaled a sigh. "I miss her", she blurted, stealing everyone's attention. Namjoon smiled to himself. "We all do."

Handong, on the other hand, was strangely silent. But no one noticed her zipped lips from uttering a word. Her blank eyes stared deeply at the unmemorable house, destroyed and leaves nothing.

"......is it just me or the lavenders are healthily purple?" asked Gahyeon. Everyone looked at the field, oblivious of the purple field until Gahyeon mentioned it.

"Hey, you're right. It was dried the last time we're here", Jungkook agreed. The purple lavenders was slightly covered with pink petals of bougainvilleas which they don't recall growing near here.

"What the hell is happening?" Namjoon whispered.

Beneath the confusion, Handong smiled secretly behind them. "Should we go out?" she finally voiced a question.

Yoohyeon immediately nodded. Jin told Yoongi about it and everyone get out of the car. They stood side by side in front of the lavenders, watching in awe of how everything that happened before reached the end two years ago.

Yoohyeon was carrying her small leather bag, slinging the strings on her shoulders. Gahyeon's nose smelled something fragrant.

And it came from Yoohyeon's bag.

"Unnie, I didn't know you have a lavender perfume", she asked playfully to cheer up the atmosphere.

Yoohyeon smiled at her and replied, "Lavender? Yes. Perfume? No. It's more special than perfume."

Gahyeon looked at her confusingly, raising an eyebrow. Yoohyeon strode in front of the whole group and walked towards the lavenders. She remembered exactly where she and Hoseok were la ded when No Name pushed them away.

As she walked, her hands rummaging for a special item to leave for her friend, who died in an unknown fate like the dead princess.

Did she go to heaven?

Did she go to hell?

Or did she fall into the void?

Gahyeon desperately tried to peek at Yoohyeon, moving left and right to get a good view. She saw something mesh and white, a tint of dried red stained on the pure white.

"A bandage?" she asked to specifically no one.

Namjoon glanced at her before his gaze shifted back to Yoohyeon. "Remember when Yoohyeon's leg was injured badly? And No Name had to use her dress to stop it from bleeding too much?" he asked.

Gahyeon didn't know much of what happened when Yoohyeon was hurt, but she do saw a faint scar on her leg.

Yoohyeon kneeled down to exactly where she fell down with Hoseok. Through the tears that brimmed her eyes, her soft pink lips stretched into a smile. She unfolded the bandage and looked at it, the lavender scent wafted into her nose, increasing the smell concentration.

"Hey, long time no see", she muttered. "It took too long to visit you. It was hard to get a few days off, but it's worth it."

She stretched the bandage out. "It's kinda unfair, you know? That you leave this to me without sparing one for yourself."

The silk bandage stretched out into a small tear at the middle. "So I want to share it with you. Because friends share each other's burden."

The silk completely tore into half. Yoohyeon kept a half into her bag and another half on her hand. A tear dropped on the silk, absorbed into the fibres.

"You're so stubborn. You always keep things to yourself. Selfish? Kinda. Do you actually think it was a selfless act to do?"

Yoohyeon folded the dark bloodstained silk into a perfect square. "Well no matter. Everything is over, leaving us missing something that's a part of us."

She pushed away the lavenders and pressed the folded bandage on the stems of the lavenders. "You."

She pulled away from the lavenders, letting the purples buried the bandage. Yoohyeon stood up on her feet and stared at the burnt, distorted structures.

"I hope I tell you this when the end is near, but no matter who you are, what you are, dead or alive, you will always be my friend. Always."

.....

She sighed and was about to go back when Hoseok was just in front of her. His eyes glazed with tears.

His hand was holding a small box. Its content was unknown but him. Yoohyeon stepped aside to let him do what he has to do.

Hoseok kneeled down beside the buried bandage. "Hey, love", he said through his strained voice.

"I really hope that we could spend more time together. While everything was happening, I was imagining things that we could do together when we get to escape. Happy things, of course. 'Hopeful' things."

Hoseok pushed away the lavenders and placed the small black box on the stems. He stared at the box heavy-heartedly and mumbled, "I guess the hopes are lost."

He pulled away, the lavenders buried the box as well. It was an item that he knew what No Name wanted to feel so much. A typical silver necklace, but a heart pendant, where she doesn't have in the first place.

He was too late to give her what she wants.

Hoseok wiped the tears away with the sleeves of his shirt and smiled cheerfully, as if he found the light that dies out of the candle. "Sleep well, No Name."

I love you.

He felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned to see Yoohyeon looking at him with a rueful look on her face. Hoseok briefly smiled before he looked away, looking at everything for the last time.

The last time?

Maybe.

But he knows that it will never be the last of it.

The two walked away towards the others. They hugged their respective members with comfort as they shed sorrowful tears. The sun started to slide down the horizon.

It's time to go home.

Everyone went back to the car, both Jin and Yoongi initiate the engines. "We will visit again, right?" Yoohyeon asked while looking down to her shoes.

Hoseok was hopeful. He doesn't feel satisfied to leave everything behind. Something is lost and never found. He wanted to know more.

The dead princess.

The house.

The lad.

The village.

And her.

But, is it possible to find answers?

"We will."

Everyone looked at Jin with lights in their eyes. Without looking back at them, Jin accelerate the car.

At the exact time, they saw something from the corner of their eyes standing in front of the destroyed structure.

At first, they thought they accidentally left someone. But they know better.

White silky dress.

Long black hair.

Black Mary Jane shoes.

Pale complexion.

And a doll.

Her back was facing them. Her head turned around to meet their eyes. Before their eyes could meet briefly, pink petals flooding their view.

As the last petal fell onto the bitumen road, the girl was nowhere to be seen in the middle of the lavender field.

Handong stared at the doll and the girl until everything was gone, watching the beginning of the end shrink into naught.
