Chapter 10
Bramblepaw woke up frightened, starving, and with acute pain on his front paw, he looked down and saw his injured paw wrapped in cobwebs and other herbs onto her wound. "Braveclaw," called out Bramblepaw feeling slightly tired. "Yes Bramblepaw?," murmured Braveclaw as she was looking through her herb piles. "Do my sisters know that I am hurt yet?," mewed Bramblepaw from his leafy nest. Braveclaw shook her head and then padded out to get Shrewpaw and Littlepaw. The medicine cat returned with the two apprentices as Braveclaw then went back to sorting through her herbs. Littlepaw then rushed over towards him and pushed her muzzle into her brother's pelt warmly. Shrewpaw shortly joined them before giving Bramblepaw an affectionate lick on his cheek. "How did this happen?" asked Shrewpaw. "I went for a short trip in the rain, and then I stepped on a fox trap. And then my paw got stuck in it and that's why I am in here," meowed Bramblepaw responding to Shrewpaw's question. "Braveclaw, I am starving," meowed Bramblepaw to her. "Alright, keep your pelt on. Littlepaw go and get your brother something to eat," said Braveclaw with irritation sparking her tone. Littlepaw eagerly nodded and and padded out of the medicine cat's den to get a piece of fresh-kill. "You are so lucky to come out of that alive. Didn't your mentor ever tell you?, next time watch where you're walking," murmured Braveclaw. "Yeah, sorry. Will Rushshine visit today?," asked Bramblepaw. Braveclaw nodded again and then picked up some comfrey root chewing it up and then putting it on Bramblepaw's wound. Bramblepaw flinched painfully from the comfrey but luckily Littlepaw came back with a huge mouse. Bramble took huge bites from mouse and then cleaned himself shortly after. "Do you two have any training today?," Bramblepaw asked his sisters. "Well I am expected to go on a border patrol, with Lakespike," meowed Shrewpaw. "And I am going to be training with Squirrelspark on how to hunt," said Littlepaw finishing her sister's sentence. "Oh we have to go now, I think our mentors are looking for us now," meowed Shrewpaw whilst she was looking out of Braveclaw's den. Bramblepaw said his goodbye as they padded out of the den. "I wish I could go out with them," said Bramblepaw sighing wistfully. "Well if you don't step on a fox trap next time you will," said Braveclaw with a mrrow of amusement in her voice. Rushshine came padding in and mewed a greeting to her apprentice. "As soon as you heal, you are going to be training hard," meowed Rushshine. "Alright I understand," meowed Bramblepaw in response. Heartpaw unexpectedly then padded into the medicine cat's den and then sat down obviously waiting for herbs. "What's wrong with you?" mewed Bramblepaw. "I was sprinting after a vole and then I got caught in a thorn bush. What's it to you half-Clan cat?," Bramblepaw winced at the she-cat's words and Braveclaw then whispered something into her ear. Heartpaw stared silently at the ground and slightly flinched when the medicine she-cat put cobwebs and other herbs on her so her wounds would not get infected. Bramblepaw let out a small snarl before going back to his own thoughts. I might be only half-Clan but that doesn't mean I am any less loyal. That piece of fox-dung should get caught in a thorn bush again for what she just said. But maybe I am thinking about this too much I mean it was nothing more than just a phrase. thought Bramblepaw feeling dizzy eventually after thinking it so hardly. "Do not let it get to you. She is only an inexperienced apprentice who doesn't understand just like you,"mewed Braveclaw. "But how did you know that I was thinking that?," asked Bramblepaw. "You looked at her as if you wanted to claw her to bits," answered Braveclaw "I was called weak once but look at me now, I am the medicine cat of LeopardClan." He looked down on the ground feeling remorseful about her knowing and responded with a nod towards her. He then curled up in his moss-filled bedding with a massive headache and a constant feeling of guilt buried into his chest. Although he felt awful from feeling all of these emotions at once the rays from the sun reflecting into the den gave him some comfort.
