JaveenForever Presents: Bee's First Halloween
Hey guys! My name is Javeen and welcome to my corner of the world. First things first, Javeen is a unisexual name, however I am a girl. Now that that's out of the way, for those who don't know, I am the author of 'Anything For A Friend', a teen fiction (or young adult) novel that is currently being updated every Tuesday here on Wattpad.
For my post, I decided to write a Halloween themed one shot featuring Bee, Deric, Adam and Hannah, the main characters of 'Anything For A Friend'. I hope you enjoy it.
Bee's First Halloween
*Bee*
"Guys!" I looked up from the sketch I was working on for Art class and at Adam who had quickly sat up on the couch in excitement. "What day is it?"
"It's Monday."
"I meant the date, Deric." Adam rolled his eyes.
"It's uhm," he glanced at his phone, "the 26th."
"The 26th?" Deric nodded. "Oh my God!"
"What?" This time Deric was the one to sit up, the game they had been playing paused.
"There's only five more days until Halloween!"
"So?" This time I was the one who had spoken.
"So?" He repeated in confusion. "It's almost Halloween."
"And?"
"What do you mean by 'and'?"
"And what's the big deal? If it was on a school day we wouldn't get the day off."
"What's the big deal?" He turned to Deric. "What's the big deal? It's Halloween what does she mean by what's the big deal?"
"They don't celebrate Halloween in Jamaica Adam."
"They don't?"
I shook my head. "It's not a holiday. I mean some people do I guess because there are some Halloween parties but that's about it."
"Then what do you do on October 31?"
"Go to school if it's a school day and stay home if it's not."
"You don't go trick or treating for candy?"
I shook my head.
"But since you've been here, you've went right?"
I shook my head. "I was eleven when I moved Adam. Not to mention the stuff that happened between my biological mother and my Dad, I just never bothered."
"But your step siblings," I glared at him and he corrected himself, "the twins I mean, they go every year."
"Yeah, they do."
"Then what do you do?"
"I stay home, watch 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' and eat chocolate covered popcorn."
"Well that's gonna have to change."
"What?"
"You're going trick or treating with Deric, Hannah and I."
"Wait I didn't agree-"
"What is Hannah doing?" She took a seat beside me on the floor and gave me a sideways hug.
"You're going trick or treating with me, Deric and Bee."
"I still did not-"
"Don't you think we're a bit old for that Adam?"
"You're never too old to go trick or treating. Plus, Bee's never been trick or treating before."
"Well, if she wants to go, then I'm down."
Adam turned to me and I shrugged. "I'll have to ask my Dad but if he says yes, then yeah, I'll go."
We then turned to Deric who sighed. "Nope."
"Deric c'mon."
"Not doing it."
"Think about Bee, Deric. She's never gone."
"Yeah Deric, I've never gone." He turned to me and I widened my eyes in an effort to make my puppy dog eyes more convincing. After staring me down, he sighed.
"Fine." I smiled at him.
"You guys can even match." We both looked at Hannah who was smiling widely. "I mean seeing as we're going as Disney Princesses and Princes."
Adam nodded. "I can go as Prince Henri."
"Who?"
"Prince Charming from Cinderella, his first name's Henri."
"How do you know this Adam?"
"I don't even want to know."
"The stuff your ears Deric." He turned to me. "When I was in California, I lived with my younger cousins. They loved all things Disney which means that I now have a ton of Disney facts that will in no way benefit me in the future."
"Who knows, you could end working at Disney for all we know."
"I think I'll most likely be the one owning Disney thank you very much."
"If you go as Prince Charming," Hannah smiled at Adam whose cheeks turned slightly red, "I can go as Cinderella."
"That is a great idea." They then moved beside each other to begin looking up costume ideas that they could coordinate with each other. I sighed at how coupley they were acting before turning back to Deric.
"So?"
"So what?"
He rolled his eyes at me as he took the seat that was previously occupied by Hannah. "What do you want to go as?"
"Does it matter?"
"To Adam it does." He caught the look of confusion on my face and continued to explain. "Going trick or treating for kids in America is a big deal and to Adam it's even bigger."
"I can see that."
He smiled. "So what's your favourite Disney movie?"
"The Princess and the Frog obviously."
"So why don't you go as Tiana?"
I shook my head. "Her dress would be too expensive."
"Which dress? She wears different clothes you know."
"The green one."
"Well how about this, you rewatch the movie, choose an outfit and then we'll see?"
I smiled and nodded at him. He then turned back to TV after yelling at Adam that he was restarting the game.
As soon as Mom, brought the twins and I home, they ran to their room while I stayed behind.
"Hey Mom?"
"Yeah?"
"Adam wants Deric, Hannah and I to go trick or treating with him and I wanted to know if I could go."
She closed the closet door after hanging up her coat and gave me a surprised look. "You want to go trick or treating?"
"Well, Adam believes that I should go at least once seeing as I've never gone before and Ms. Robinson thinks that I should socialize more so, I figured I'd just kill two birds with one stone."
"I think that's a great idea Bee. I'll have to talk to Jonathan about it but I think that'd be great. What were you planning to go as?"
"Tiana from The Princess and the Frog. Deric's supposed be either Naveen or the Voodoo doctor but he hasn't decided which one yet. I think he's gonna be the Voodoo doctor though."
"I think you'd be a beautiful Tiana." She gathered me into a hug after I gave her an embarrassed smile, I still don't know how to react to compliments. "I'm glad that you're doing this Bee."
I hugged her back. "So am I."
I did in fact watch "The Princess and the Frog" again, this time with the twins and mom. Truly, Tiana's wedding dress (the green one) was beautiful but as I had said, it was a bit too expensive. So, that was no.
"Why don't you wear the white dress she has on?" Jayda was excited since she heard I was going trick or treating. Granted I wasn't going with her and Jayden but she was strangely excited nonetheless. "You know the one she had one when the Shadow Doctor was trying to trick her? When she was in her restaurant?"
I looked up the outfit she was talking about and smiled. It was perfect. It wasn't a too flashy but at the same time it was elegant.
"That could work."
"And don't you have a fur thing in your closet?" I nodded at Jayden's question.
"Then all you would need are some shoes and a dress, Bee," Jayda chimed in.
"Actually, I have a pair of shoes you could borrow," I looked up at Mom who had a thoughtful expression on her face, "We wear the same size yes?"
I nodded and she got up to head to her room. That's when I turned to Jayda and grabbed her in a huge hug.
"What this for?"
"You're a genius." I looked over at Jaden and pulled him into hug as well. "You too Jayden. You're both geniuses."
"Did they find the cure for cancer or something?"
"Dad!" The twins got up and ran towards him as he bent down to hug them. "You're back!"
"Told you I would be didn't I?" They hugged him even tighter while I smiled at them. That's when he looked up from them and at me (who was still seated on the couch and smiling at the three of them). "You naw go hug mi too?" ("Aren't you going to hug me too?")
I smiled, got up and walked over to his open arms. "Hey Dad."
"Hey Bee."
I let go and smiled at him. "Mi miss yuh." ("I missed you.")
"Mi did only gan fi a week," he picked up his bag and headed towards the living room. ("I was only gone for a week.")
"Mi know but mi did still miss yuh." ("I know but I still missed you.")
He stopped and gave me another hug.
"Mi miss yuh too Bee." He then let go and turned back to the twins who were watching us confusedly. "I told you three that I'm not going away and I meant it."
"Neither am I." We turned towards the stairs where Mom was standing at the stairs before coming to join us in a family hug.
When we finally let go and went to take a seat on the couch Dad turned back to me and repeated his previous question.
"Why are the twins geniuses?"
"Because they're helping me to find my Halloween outfit because Adam would like me to go trick or treating with him, Deric and Hannah."
"I see."
"But I told him I had to ask you guys first and Mom said yes but I still have to ask you. So I was wondering if i could go?"
"Where are you guys going?"
"Probably just in Coleville, I could ask."
"As long as it's just in Coleville, it'll be fine."
"Who's going?"
"Adam, Deric, Hannah and I. Probably Davi and some of their other friends as well."
"Davi?" I nodded. "If im a go, stay wid Deric and Adam. Mi don't like im." ("If he's going, stay with Deric and Adam. I don't like him.")
"Mi nuh like im eida so yuh naw fi worry." ("I don't like him either so you won't have to worry.") He only smiled at me in amusement.
After getting my Dad's approval on the grounds that I call him every hour while I was out, I texted Adam and Deri telling them that I could go and that I'd meet them on Saturday at Adam's house. This way, they wouldn't see my outfit till then.
The next couple of days passed in a blur as my excitement grew. All around the school, the Upperclassers were handing out invitations to their Halloween parties. I, of course did not receive one as usual but for the first time in a long time, it didn't matter. I was going trick or treating with my best friends on Saturday and that's all that matter.
I was so excited that it was physically impossible for me to sleep on Saturday and as such I was up from six in the morning. I spent the earlier part of the day helping to dress the twins (who decided to go as Thing One and Thing Two) while my Mom ironed my new white dress (I was afraid I'd burn it).
At last five o'clock came and I went to go get ready, by this time Dad had taken the twins to their friends house for a Halloween party. By six o'clock I was ready and by six fifteen, I was in the car on my way to Adam's house. When we got there, Mom drove up to the front door which is where she decided to give me last minute advice/warnings.
"Call or send a text every hour, don't forget! Don't go anywhere without Hannah, Deric or Adam. Don't go anywhere near Davi or his friends. And don't eat any of the candy until you get back here and you can look at them properly, you never know what they put in them."
"Is that from a professional view point or just a worried mother's opinion?"
She rolled her eyes at me. "Both, I'm just a bit nervous for you Abigail. This is way out of your comfort zone."
I shook the feather boa at her. "Too late to turn back now isn't it?"
She nodded and hugged me. "Yeah, it is. Have fun Bee."
I pulled away before opening the door. "Thanks Mom. Have fun on your date with Dad."
I closed the door and walked up to Adam's front door, where I rang the doorbell. The door opened and I smiled at Deric whose widened when he saw my outfit.
I held up my bucket that I decorated myself. "Trick or Treat?"
"Treat." I smiled at Adam (completely decked out in royal attire) who had turned up at the door. "Definitely treat Bee. You look- OW! What was that for."
"You were talking to much," Adam stepped to the side to reveal Hannah who was dressed in a blue poofy dress that complimented her perfectly. "You look beautiful Abigail."
"Exactly what I was going to say before you pinched me."
"Yeah," I looked at Deric who smiled brightly at me, "you do look beautiful."
"You look great too Deric." Deric had decided to dress up as the Shadow Man, which honestly did not surprise me at all. To be honest, I could never see him as the Princely type.
He looked away with a small smile and I continued as Hannah and Adam went back to get their buckets.
"Really," I bumped his shoulder, "you look good. Kinda wished I had dressed up as a villain instead but hey, at least one of us gets to have fun. And in a weird way or costumes do match."
"I guess they do. Are you excited?"
"I actually am."
"Good," by this time Adam and Hannah had returned with their buckets and after grabbing his he took my hand, "it wouldn't be fun if you weren't."
I looked down at our joined hands and just smiled in response.
