I took a chance...

...that day in the forest when my niece Acacia had an iron grip around that tree branch.

She saw me, she truly saw me like no one ever has since the day and the week following that Tresor Vossen was killed.

I learned a lot that day, memories...all the memories which I had absolutely no idea of. Kirsten made a deal with a warlock, but that's just his classification, not the true demon he really is. These creatures...devils and demons in nature that manipulate the darkest forms of magic that flood the earthen plane with life.

Apparently, I wasn't just granted life when Kirsten made that deal...Tresor bound my blood to his which in turn allowed him not only to stay longer in glimpses, but he was able to extend his control, including that to my twin brother.

These creatures can't walk the earthen plane permanently...

...not yet anyways.

The council is no longer their pawns, using the blood of an alpha to charge the fallen stars they control. Through these actions, they were able to influence members of their covens when a fallen star was in their possession. Their hold is weak now...but I guess that's why I'm here now...

Cormac...he did everything to protect me, even when I had no awareness of all the moving parts around me.

I was their pawn.

I don't want to be a pawn any longer...

...I want to play this game with complete cognizance.

They took me away from someone very dear to me. I fell in love with Missy Graves and before I was even given the chance to mark her as my beloved, I was ripped away from the earthen plane and now play from the shadows beyond the veil.

Tresor's successors though...they are stronger and smarter than himself. Nimue...she knew my very life would degrade the second Tresor died and before I would have been sent to hell...she had her older brought Lars take that opportunity she saw to exchange my life as a beacon. I became a shade, one living among the puppeteers beyond the veil as they play the world of the earthen plane like marionettes.

Lars and Nimue won't kill me.

Lars needs me in order for him to take permanent form on the earthen plane...

...though that doesn't stop him from cursing me, reprimanding me for appearing to my niece.

I can see her for what she is...just like these devils and demons. I know what she truly is, her true form which has been somehow hidden and concealed to all those...including herself, her very being has not the slightest idea the colossal power she possesses.

Acacia Arin...you are no mere mortal, though you are not the only one they need...

💫

Standing on one of the obsidian brick structures at the edge of the world that replicates the earthen plane, I exhale sharply as I'd only been able to communicate with Acacia while she'd been playing hide and seek at Alpha Keir's pack lodge for a brief glimpse of time. I told her what she needed to say and I haven't been able to set foot in the replica of the earthen plane since so I don't even know if she relayed the message to Cormac.

Damn it...

I haven't figured out how to fight the runic curse marks, the ones Lars evoked upon me. It was punishment for going to Acacia as if she does relay my message and tells Cormac that she saw me, he'll become suspicious. He needs to understand what's coming...

Turning away from the replicated earthen plane, I alter my stance on the structure. Gazing out toward the world surrounding me, the darkened purple hues, the cobwebs that move and act as time itself and unseen eyes flicker in and out of my vision. At the very center of this world stands the great city of Akregale, the place in which these creatures reside.

When I take a single step toward the place I've had to call home, skulking on the outskirts as a shade, a part of my punishment takes full force. The runic curse symbols tattooed on my body glow with a vibrant purple hue before they spark to a pit of darkness, sending my spirit riling through time and space while being ripped apart once again. If I were alive, I'd be close to death, the way dark electrical energy travels just beneath the top layer of my skin. It rakes through every fiber of my being as my muscles constrict and I find myself breathing hard on my knees. It weakens me...each and every time the curse surfaces, it makes it harder for me to control my movements to make my way back to the earthen plane.

A never ending nightmare...I can't end this, no matter how hard I wish to move on to hell itself...it's better than acting as a beacon for the evil intentions of these creatures.

The second it passes, I rise to my feet before jumping down from the obsidian brick structure and landing on the stones. I walk toward Akregale, my eyes shifting from those who are gathering at the very steps leading to palace doors. An assortment of these creatures stand, their voices low as they speak with one another. Their hushed tones are either out of fear or concealment and I'm very quick to learn it's the latter as I approach on the outskirts.

Their haunting amethyst eyes stare back at me while snarls work their way up onto their lips. I know I'm not welcome because my very presence here can spell disaster for their true intentions on the earthen plane. Centuries in the making are what lead them to their final destination here. Soon, they'll have exactly what they want if nothing stops them and unfortunately, Acacia's identity has been thoroughly concealed.

They want her broken beyond repair...

...this was exactly what their last meeting was about, though I see this might just be an announcement.

As I stand off to the side near a post, Nimue is the first to make her presence known. The spider web tattoos on her elbows resonate with a dull glow, using the passage of time to appear for a brief moment...but for what purpose?

Her dark hair runs down her back, walking forward toward the very edge of the platform leading up to the stairs. She waits silently with her arms behind her back, one hand clutching the other wrist. Nimue's eyes scan the crowd of demons and devils, their voices rising in volume as time passes by, though she remains as a statue herself.

"Lady Vossen," one of the demons approaches closest to the bottom step, his features slowly shifting from a representation of mankind to that of a horned and winged beast. His irises shift to the darkest bloody red imaginable, his sharp teeth elongating as he grins wickedly at her while presenting himself in a respectful manner in their customs.

"What is it you desire?" Nimue asks him with hardly a single shift in her features; her eyes glance down at him.

The demon chuckles and asks, "The child-"

"Has not reached her full potential," Nimue is quick to interrupt the demon. It grips at my heart the way they talk about Acacia...using her as a tool for what my brother would refer to as their endgame. They know...she as a greater purpose...for both sides yet the one that can get to her first will wield the power behind her being.

Manipulation at its finest...

The demon takes a few steps back the second the air around Nimue shifts, her hair billowing forward over her shoulders. Lars returns, his mere presence bringing forth a new reaction from these creatures as they fall to one knee. He approaches his sister to the side, hear head turning slightly as their eyes meet with one another.

Murmurs are on the lips' of the crowd while they recognize, "King Lars Vossen."

"Brother?" She questions the second his features shift and he grimaces. All rise to their feet before Lars' human skin shifts to his true form. The amethyst color of his eyes floods to the expanse of his skin, tinging it before his demonic bat-like wings extend from the center of his shoulder blades. A tail emerges, ending in a thick spade before he lifts his gaze to oversee the crowd, electric blue eyes replacing what his warlock magic conceals.

There's something very different though as I notice the way his wings almost appear burned or ripped in areas, taking me by surprise when he answers his sister with, "Selene," though when he speaks, the two sets of fangs he has are on full display.

"What?" Her eyes widen as Lars breathes in and out slowly as though attempting to heal...though his magic doesn't allow for this, only Nimue can turn energy for healing purposes.

Lars nods and states, "The veil is growing stronger, dividing the planes of existence and making each plane its own entity," he pauses a moment as he looks his sister over once before he continues, "as your part to play merely allows a shade of your existence to extend to the earthen plane for a brief glimpse of time...you won't be affected."

Nimue comes to a very startling conclusion without having to ask her brother for details, "This will be the last time you return beyond the veil until harbingers cross their lines."

Nimue isn't even a rival for my brother...Cormac is perhaps a chess master...but she appears to have created the game.

Cormac doesn't have the slightest clue who all the players are...

"Indeed," Lars replies before he takes a step away from her, taking one step down the stairs as the devils and demons are entranced by his presence. After he looks them all over, his silence causing much apprehension he informs them all, "Lady Nimue Vossen will oversee the great city of Akregale and all those who reside within it. After I cross the veil, it'll be too strong for me to shift back as the Moon Goddess and "mother" of vampires...Selene...she's using her power to keep us from moving forward to balance our planes of existence. As I've taken physical form on the earthen plane...I am bound by their laws of nature and my magic pales in comparison to that of a goddess."

In a blink of an eye, they are all dismissed, leaving Lars and Nimue standing atop the platform. While I watch them turn away, the doors to the palace opening, I'm quick to make my way from the post I'd been concealed behind. Though they could track my movements on the earthen plane, I've become a master of stealth beyond the veil...except for when the curse markings remind me of my punishment, allowing instant access and giving away my position to Lars.

Climbing up through the back stone pathway into the crevasse of obsidian wall to the palace side, I move through the passageways, just the way I'd grown accustom to while hiding my existence away from those on the earthen plane. It's funny though now...because those tricks I learned have aided me in gaining access to information that the Vossens keep closely guarded.

Not close enough.

"-one day she will...it has to be willingly done to allow our presence to be made known to the earthen plane," Nimue's voice resonates quietly from their private meeting chamber, catching the trail end of her statement.

"I'm well aware of that," Lars averts his gaze to the side wall, anger brimming beneath his skin, "though until that time comes; Selene continues to grow more powerful..."

Nimue watches as Lars takes a seat in his chair, darkness clouding his features while she responds, "In time...you'll have your opportunity to create a god."

"Even that must be willing in order for a celestial being's power to be passed on to their offspring," Lars acknowledges his sister before he chuckles, "I highly doubt this will come to pass however, I'll continue to use those around her to push Acacia to her breaking point. So long as she allows for the earthen plane's downfall, I can live without an heir."

With a slight nod of her head, Nimue is about to speak, though Lars tilts his head to the side and asks, "Why do you remain as an image of mankind before me?"

"I've grown accustom to their appearance as it won't scare or cause alarm for the harbingers," she returns with a smile. Lars motions for her to move closer to him where she slowly complies with his request. The second she halts before him, he rises to his feet, his stature towering over her human form before he outstretches his arm and taps the center of her forehead with his finger.

The amethyst color of her eyes floods to stain the skin of her body identical to Lars' only moments ago before the other devils and demons. Her own bat-like wings extend from the center of her shoulder blades, a much thinner tail emerging before ending in a spade. When her electric blue eyes meet with his, she tilts her head to the side as though they are staring directly into each other's souls.

Lars tells her, his voice dark, "I wanted to see you one last time in your true form before we walk together once again in a new era, the end of days near..."

Nimue nods and replies, "I shall see you on the other side...brother."

Stepping back and away quietly, I can feel the serge of energy about to flood my being...taking to a secluded passageway before it takes hold of me. Rendering me useless and in excruciating pain and I can't stop myself from vocalizing my agony as it reaches new heights.

It takes no more than a few seconds before I'm ripped from the wall hiding me. My eyes are staring up into Lars' as he throws me to the obsidian floor. Both Nimue and he stare down at me, Lars glancing at her before he says, "This beacon is becoming more of a nuisance."

"You can't fulfill the prophecy without remaining on the earthen plane," Nimue reassures him as the anger vibrates from every cell of his body.

Lars remains quiet for a time before he finally speaks to Nimue, but his gaze holds mine, "What's worse than a shade that's trapped between worlds?"

She tilts her head to the side with curiosity, watching her brother as she asks, "What, dear brother?"

"One that can't remember anything..." his voice trails off as electric blue energy surrounds him. Right before he touches his finger to my forehead, the pulsation of the energy turns to darkness, the black wisps surrounding his form as it floods my body. I cry out in pain, a feeling of numbness sinking in a few seconds later.

Nimue and Lars merely glance at one another before the silence ensues.

My parents? Who...where were they?

Missy...I think?

I feel fleeting moments slipping away, my eyes searching all around me before Nimue and Lars walk away from where I'd been thrown. Glancing down, I see a new curse mark on my forearm...

I have to hold onto the fleeting images...I can't forget...

...Cormac.

...Acacia.
